    Many of the greatest players I've ever seen had something in common: They worked tirelessly, were 100% devoted to their craft. Kershaw, Jeter, ManRam, Nomar, Kirk Gibson etc. Yes, they were born with elite genetics, but it was their elite commitment that got the most out of their God-given talent. Any of those guys you can find stories about how dedicated and focused they were on being the best that they could be, and 'good enough' was never a place they let themselves stagnate.

    Training question: How do you get your timing straight when you are all off?

  • @Sandler23

    I played baseball in Canada (BC) and there were no scouts around where I played and no coaches either. I was a good hitter, but when I played it was all about making a VHS tape and sending it to coaches at random universities. It was tough. These days, its much easier if you have any talent. I wish I'd grown up 20 years later.

      Yep you sure did. We live in Victoria, BC, and have things changed in the last 5 years even. There is a school baseball academy that helps players, the BCPBL, 4 indoor facilities with pro coaches as well as several guys specializing in strength, power and speed. My boy is 15 and is talking to a number of Div 1 schools through the internet and phone calls. Unbelievable change. Back in the day it was DIY. Lucky kids.

    That's why making it to the pro's is so hard. You need the whole soup. You can have a few of the ingredients but that will only get you so far. Problem is a couple of the ingredients you are either born with or you arent.

      There’s lots of amazing players in the MLB who aren’t physically gifted like Ozzie Albies who’s 5’8 and weighs 165 pounds and isn’t even top 100 fastest players in the MLB and yet he’s probably the best second baseman in the league because he rarely never misses a ground ball which there’s really not a lot of talent involved in that it’s all about repetition, and is also a good hitter because he put in the hard work

    • @slb6977

      @@gomez3357 I mean to an extent. You always need quite a bit of that "thing" to be the best in the world. You can practice that thing. You either have it or you don't. You can't take somebody with out it and train them for 10 years and expect them to be anywhere near pro. One in millions.

  • @LoydChampion

    No matter what your talent level, By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail... I share with high school and college players that 50 weeks of the year that they should spend a minimum of 4 days a week just playing catch for 30 minutes a day, do base running drills 30 minutes a day, and hit 30 minutes a day. Great training for hand and eye coordination is racquetball. This has helped about a dozen players that have made it to the big leagues. Once there, don't stop doing this in the off season.

    I agree that you definitely need to have natural talent and, for most certainly, hard work. But you're leaving out a big thing which I've been told and belive that you have to be super lucky and have some connections. Certain high schools and colleges have connections with big-time baseball organizations like Cape Code and Baseball USA. I know baseball players that are more talented than other players, but because they went to a certain H.S. they are playing with top Colleges. So, in essence, if you don't have the connection or know someone, unfortunately, your chances are slim to none. And please don't tell me that old story that if you're really good they will find you. I really like your videos. I've learned a lot. Thank you, and God bless.

    How do you feel about these top draft picks signing contracts with multi-million dollar signing bonuses? Many of these players will never be as good as the majority of the players they compete with in the Minor League levels who may have been drafted many rounds later. However, these high draft picks get all of the playing time and get promoted faster even though many other players outperform them. This is called politics based on a financial stigma since the high draft pick has received so much compensation while others are making chump change. The Major League teams prioritize the path of the high draft picks up to the Major League level, regardless of performance. Major League Baseball is designed as the league of the top talent in all of baseball. However, it has become the league of highest paid players, not necessarily the best talent.

    • @ryanm1732
      @ryanm1732 4 года назад +1

      I don’t like it. There should be a standard rookie contract (it doesn’t have to be the same for everyone, but there should be a general range) and then you sign the big contract once you’ve proven you earned it. That’s how it works in pretty much every other sport.

    • @80sFreak100
      @80sFreak100 4 года назад

      @@ryanm1732 yes. The draft should only be the right to draft players and sign them, not as a means of reward over others. Yet, these MLB teams invest so much money in these high draft picks that they throw them out there over other players who are better. They don't ever really have to prove themselves and get promoted to the Major League level. The better players settle minor league arbitration disputes and get "Hush Money". Then, they get traded throughout the minors until they quit. MLB players are not the best. They are simply the highest paid. That's not what I want to watch. I prefer to watch the best.

    David Eckstein's do not exist in Basketball and that is what makes this sport amazing! You don't need to be 6'8" 260 pounds with a 40+" vertical to play this game. Jose Altuve is a 2 time MVP at 5'6". That wouldn't happen in basketball. All you need is work ethic, heart, baseball I.Q, and be fundamentally sound to play at the highest level. Anything else is a bonus really. Baseball is the people's game!
