I’ve had chronic patellar pain on my left knee for years from consistent squats, deadlifts, etc. Always noticeable and occasional shooting pain when needing to step up onto a high surface, say at knee height. I did the massage while watching the video and 90% of the pain and popping disappeared. Incredible. Thank you, B&B.

Is there anyone here that's actually had it and has fully recovered? It seems to me, after 8 months, that this is one of those injuries that just won't ever go away.
Edit : it's quite ironic but since this comment my patella tendon has got a lot better. I did a workout with 4×8 squats, 4×8 lunges, and 4×8 single leg step ups, and my knee has recovered well after only two days. It didn't hurt at all, it felt completely normal.

I got pain for the last five weeks from playing too much tennis, rest for two weeks, been using ice, massage, but pain just getting bad and it wouldn't go away. Found out I had Patellar Tendonistis and said some part of legs muscles are weak, so all loads go the knees. Did some slight heavy- load legs exercise, mainly squats, after first session the pain reduce by 80-90% and now I have almost no pain, but only apply pressure. Obviously, you going to have more pain when squatting, but after the pain will start to go away, remember to go slow when squatting, it's like you have to feel the pain for the pain to go away. Speaking from experience. This might not work for you, but it did work for me.

@OfficialJache Yes massage gun first to solve the tendonitis and then quad exercises to help take the load off. I will say that I did build up my quads without the massage gun and my knee was never 100%. Recently I have not done any quad exercises and only used the massage gun and have no tendonitis pain. So in my experience, I would place the massage gun as way more important than the quad exercises.
It may not work for everyone, but you do have to spend time massaging your knee, otherwise you will not get results.

I used Styrofoam ice cups daily on the bowed tendon on the front leg of my 20 year old Arabian mare (after we finished our daily 45 minute hand walk in sand, prior to leg wrapping for the night).
I'd sit on an upended 5 gallon bucket near her front leg, icing down the leg after the workout. The damaged leg looked like a house's basement foundation post, in comparison to the refined undamaged leg.
Looking at both of her legs, I cried a lot, sitting on that bucket, day after day, with no certainty that it would work.
We did this routine daily, 7 days a week, from June to the next May. We only missed a total of 5 days of therapy.
The styrocup was so useful because you could peel it back while the ice melted & your hand didn't freeze while administering the therapy.
We also used TENS as well- a very novel therapy in 2001-2002. It was thought to help lay down the scar tissue in a striated way (parallel to the original fibers) vs randomized racemic scar tissue forming without the TENS stimulation/ firing along the parallel axis.
I consulted with Tom Ivers, a Thoroughbred race trainer, who wrote The Bowed Tendon Book. He saved a lot of lives with his work, & was a great guy.
When our vet finally consented to examine the leg with ultrasound (after a year- it takes a long time to heal in a horse!) -
he said that it was the best repair that he'd ever seen on a bowed tendon.
To this day- wished I could put it on my resume! Lol
She was returned to function & comfort, and I'd do it all again if needed.

Around 2008-2009 I had some bad patellar tendinopathy while playing college football. At the time I saw some studies that showed eccentric squats on a slant board to be effective at stimulating healing. I think it was the same idea as the massage, helping the fibers to realign properly. I was doing the ice massage and cross fiber massage as well. Introducing the slant board was the only thing that worked for me.

hi Bob and Brad. Been watching your videos and they've helped me a lot.
Just wanted to ask if you'd know why my quads disengage or like shut off at a particular angle of knee bend. There's also pain that accompanies it. No swelling, no trauma, and it's just momentarily sharp pain. I also feel my knee "locks" or wont bend when there's load on it.

This video was very detailed and helpful because just this Friday I just got diagnosed with patellar tendonitis but when my pain start hitting sharp in the center of my knee like you have your knee marked I would I've it and to me the pain comes back stronger and that sharp pain would just hit me out of know where if am walking or sitting or if am laying in bed the pain would hit me . This pain that hits me so strong had me in tears 😢 and am not a runner nor am not athletic. I've been in the hotel working for 13 years so that type of work is strenuous work on the body. But video was very helpful

When I got covid back in January, I immediately began experiencing tendonitis in all of my major joints, simultaneously. Shoulders (biceps), elbows, and knees (patellar). The tendonitis lasted months beyond the illness, but most of it went away naturally, with the exception of my right knee. Will be trying this moving forward.

Bob and Brad - your videos are so helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise in such fun ways. Can the use of the wrong orthotic insert or non-supportive footwear aggravate the patellar tendon? I seem to have all the symptoms but am not a runner, jumper at this stage of life. I do try and get at least a 5KM walk in every day - wearing HOKA shoes due to hallux limits in both great toe joints. I will try the icing and manual massage you recommend in this video but wonder if my problem stems from my feet and is referring up the leg? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide. I like your idea of ice in a cup. I am 73 yrs old so I have numerous aches and pains, from many years in the military and martial arts over the years. My favorite way to apply cold to a spot is a bag of frozen peas. The bag forms to the body part, and each pea is frozen. As it thaws I will just throw it back into the freezer for another day. Never open the bag never eat the peas. When I think it is time I just throw the bag of peas out and buy another. Love your channel.

My knee tendonitis was caused by a 10 year old injury to my knee cap. I fell on the pavement on m knee cap. It hurt for almost a year then went away. Apparently the fall caved my knee cap in and caused some roughness under my knee cap and my cap was literally fraying the patellar tendon when I would exercise. Had TENEX with PRP to fix the tendonitis, then I had my knee cap fixed and they found that I had a plica stuck in my knee joint so that got taken out too. My knee feels amazing now.

i’m pretty sure i have jumpers knee from my hurdles. i recently have began feeling this for a little over a month. i took a couple weeks off of hurdling and decided that yesterday i’d try again bc i thought it has gotten better but that “off” feeling occurred again. it doesn’t necessarily hurt but it still interrupts my performance. i feel it greatly when i’m landing on the leg, in this case, it’s the left. however, if i use both legs - for ex while i’m jumping rope - i don’t really feel it. i also feel it when i sit down and extend my leg straight out, putting it up and down but if i extend it straight out and flex my leg, i don’t feel anything, it’s just when i bend it.

A few days ago, I began walking with crutches and an Evenup on my left shoe. No boot about 2 days ago. Still using crutches, (for stability) but my left knee is so painful now, I can’t bear any weight on it. I suspect it is injured because I relied on it too heavily with the heavy boot on the right leg. I am getting around in a wheelchair 😔. Received the lesser priced Renpho today, charging right now. Sure hope it fixes my issue. Please feel free to comment. Obviously I am not an athlete.
