    Strongly disagree about your problem with the switch. I love the single press remembering the last mode I was in. That's the way it should be. If you want single press into medium mode, just use the tailswitch like you demonstrated. I for one hope Olight doesn't do away with the side switch single press remembering your last mode. I guess we can agree to disagree. Thanks.

    • @outerlimitless

      I agree about remembering the last mode... just not moonlight.

    • @charlieme5150
      @charlieme5150 3 года назад +6

      I agree. Moonlight is my favorite after turbo and I've never heard anyone else complain about it's current settings. I also hope they keep it the same way it is, if not at least make it "smarter" as to where it has more customizable settings.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  3 года назад +10

      @@charlieme5150 my question is... if you can simply long press for moonlight... then why do you need memory to remember it? Can't you just long press to turn on moonlight every time? The way they have it there are two redundant ways to turn on moonlight if memory remembers it. To me that's far less efficient and unnecessary... but to each their own. And yes being able to set/program the modes is a great idea.

    • @charlieme5150
      @charlieme5150 3 года назад +6

      @@outerlimitless I guess it depends on personal preference, on the setting you use most. I use moonlight the most so having to press and hold for 3 seconds every time just to use it seems annoying. Medium is my 2nd most used but I just use the tail end switch. Only way of keeping everyone happy is better customizing settings.

    • @donaldstrader7241

      @@charlieme5150 Although I can see the point by outer limitless, I think I prefer it the way it is unless one could customize settings. Actually the only mode that does not have direct access is low and if you are using low it would go back to that from the side switch. I think one reason for keeping it the way it is, if you are using moonlight at all, you might really need a fail-safe way to get there, to preserve your night vision or to avoid disturbing others. If you are using medium it is going to go back to it so no real reason why to change the interface. If you almost always use medium there would only be very few occasions when one would be inconvenienced and no big deal to get there. The consequences of missing moonlight though could be more catastrophic. Besides as already indicated, one always has direct access to medium through the tail switch.
      For those who do not have a Warrior Mini 2 I'll note that the side switch with its memory is independent of the tail switch. So if you use the tail switch to take a few quick looks, when you hit the side switch later, it will go back to whatever you prefer from the side switch. Another interesting aspect of the Olight interface, if you double click when in turbo, it will go back to the last mode you accessed with the side switch. The M2R pro works the same way. So all in all I prefer the way the interface works. If I had any quibbles it would be that Olight does not give one the choice of choosing a clean neutral white, not the great interface.
      Another reason I like the proximity sensor is that although there is an electronic lockout, there is no mechanical lockout. One can literally remove the barrel (tail cap in the M2R Pro) and operate the light by the side switch if one holds the battery in place.

  • @rsilvers129

    I was fully expecting your point to be pointless, but I gotta say, you found a UI bug. It was almost certainly an oversight on their part and they should fix it. I say this because there is no reason for it to behave as it does. No upside for the memory to be erased like that.
    Your video is a year old and I just got one and it still has this issue. Also my new Warrior 3S also has this issue.
    Also surprised that some viewers are not correctly understanding this anomaly you discovered.
    Still these are my two favorite lights.

    You might like flashlights with the Anduril UI more. Hold for moonlight from off, but when you turn it off then click it on, it'll remember your last setting (that isn't moonlight). Double click from off to high, double click from on to turbo. You can program how many levels you want, how bright your high is, smooth ramping between lumens vs stepped spacing like olight, what temperature it will step down from, current voltage level readout, and lots of other features. The drawback is it has a steeper learning curve and you'll need to learn how to program all your preferences. Now my olight is for when I dress in button ups with slacks, but my anduril is my preferred daily carry when I'm dressed casually.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  3 года назад +3

      That sounds like the exact programming that I would think is ideal. Actually very intuitive overall and gives the most selectable output modes without needing to click through all sorts of modes once you get it set.

      @@outerlimitless if you're interested, sofirn makes lights with the anduril UI and offer the cool white or warmer white temps for their some of their lights. I'd look at the sofirn if25 as a place to start. It's chunkier cause it's a 21700 battery but it's the same height as the first olight WM, so shorter than the WM 2. But they're not the only brand with that UI. I slapped an olight clip onto it.

Don't like flashlights that require there brand specific batteries. Love your reviews and have learned a lot from you.

    A very fair negative point.
    The moon light mode should not interfer with the memory function because it has it's own place in the UI.
    But nevertheless a very intuitive UI (unlike the Baton, i-series etc).
    The two-stage tactical switch is something more brands should adapt.

Then the light wasn't available. But dual switches was a no brainer for me. My son got me hooked on the OLights when he gave me the Red i3T, and orange perun headlamp a few years back, Now I enjoy buying them for gifts. Waiting for the orange one that bends with the skeleton on it for my Radiographer other son! I'm never without matching i3T in my pocket.!

    I like when it is in Moonlight mode, and then when I turn it on it's back to Moonlight mode. Why? If I'm in a situation where I don't want to be noticed, i.e. in a bug out situation and I need just enough light to see, but I don't want my adversary to see where I am. I may be in a tent and need to get something and don't want a bunch of light in the middle of the night. Make sense?

      Exactly... So no matter what mode you were in you long press the side switch and you're in moonlight mode... Every single time. So why do I need memory to remember that? Just long press... I can remember that better than trying to remember that I was in moonlight mode. Oops... I was in high... Instead just commit to the long press for moonlight every single time... Problem solved.

    when i see this in your hands my hands are obiously a bit larger, for defensive use in europe, i wish it was a tiny bit longer, maybe half an inch, with a more agressive bezel for hooking and striking, since its illegal to carry anything here this is actually my primary self defense tool, but with some martial arts skills like boxing or similar, this can be very effective. other than that i want it to be exactly as it is because with that exeption this light is absolutely perfect. the larger lights do not have proximity sensor and becomes too large.

    Liked the vid, but disagree with your stance on not memorizing moonlight mode. If you really need it to come on medium with a single click most often, leave it there and it will, assuming you used medium last. OR, as you've pointed out, the default tail switch setting is quick access to medium. HOWEVER, the dark-adapted vision safer bet is after having been using moonlight recently--to allow moonlight mode to be memorized. Otherwise, an accidental single click can blast your retinas against a map, document, etc. How long does it take to hold the button and step from moonlight to medium anyway?

      since you can strike and even hook with this in a pinch, id go with warrior mini 2. it would be better if it was just half an inch longer and had a more agressive strike bezel for causing pain when pressing/stabbing, but the baton pro becomes too small for that. i want the flashlight to be a defensive tool aswell as a light.

    You're the only YTer I've herd have an issue with the OLight UI. And actually not like the fact that OLight's can remember FF. I think it's a great feature to have. So you can just pickup the light and have instant access to FF. Not needing to hold down a switch and have to check to make sure you had it on FF. I usually leave my lights o LOW...but buy leave my Baton's on FF....
    Olight's UI is spot on. Somethng Fenix should learn from, NItecore too (little odd in their creativity e.g. being able to set certain lights to TAC which starts you off in Turbo or Hihg ramping down....gimic most of us don't want to start off wit max lumens immediately mesing up our night vision....heh...

    I bought this light Warrior Mini 2 and their are 2 things that really piss me off about it. 1 the stupid night mode memory as you have also described. 2 and the worst problem, if you leave the memory on HIGH output mode 500 lumens, the bloody memory after 10 minutes decides all by its self that when you turn the light back on it auto goes into MEDIUM output mode 🤦 Why on earth did olight think that was a good idea?
