  • Barrel 1 of the board hoard that I need to get ready to bring to the scrap yard. Please note that this is not the way to make the most money in most situations. I just need to get it all out of here.

    Be great if you could sell those boards on to a "next level" micro scrapper who would have the time and patience to depopulate further. Take care, Poo

      thanks Poo, would still have to ship them, no local person would be able to get much more off of them, plus with the newer electronics, the quantity of valuable material on them is really dropping.

    Shipping from Utah to Boardsort is a lot per pound. I have to pack a box with $4+/lb. stuff to make it worthwhile. I take the main easy goodies off the circuit/mother boards and get up to $1.50/lb. at a yard 30 mins away and take a load of wire, etc. at higher prices than my local yards to make the trip worthwhile.

    Hey brotha I have watched a ton of ur videos and I am currently doing my very first batch I have 3 pounds of fingers in a bucket with muriatic acid and peroxide and I also went ahead and bought a bottle of hydrochloric acid 37% and added some of that to it as well n then I also have a batch of gold plated pins and jus a ton of plated boards n pins an stuff with the same chemicals but a bunch of plastic is on the pins an stuff an so my question is how many days would I let the plated stuff sit in the acid bath for and I planned on doing this to both batches after I get to straining part I was gonna soak them both in straight hydrochloric acid for a day jus to make sure that there was no other metals in the gold anywho my question is for the plated stuff how would you go about processing that stuff like said some pins had plastic on um so do I process um jus the same as I would do the fingers ur input would be appreciated an thank you for the videos they are so very helpful

    I've seen other scrappers use an electric skillet filled with sand to melt the connections thus freeing up all components on the boards. Why not use this method and harvest everything at once? Is it because there is too much effort in the sorting process or some other reason?

  • @dwightgordon803
    @dwightgordon803 3 года назад +1

    So, if copper is going up and copper bearing is not, it becomes more worth it to strip wire and break down motors, yes? Also, would you mind going into a bit of detail on your thought process on what you depopulate? I would think that if yards pay less for boards I would depopulate more. Obviously your thoughts go in a different direction.

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  3 года назад +3

      In most cases you are correct however the only yard near me that is currently accepting boards does not differentiate between any kind of grade. Low grade, high grade, telelcom, HDD logic boards, they pay the same low price for all of it. As for what i depopulate, given that scrapping is just a sideline for me, I opt to focus on the more lucrative things. Spending hours chasing down tiny MLCC's to hopfully get a pound at some point or stripping tiny bits of copper, I can make better use of my time with other things while still recyling, keeping it out of landfills, etc.

    Love the intro moose, I really want to say to make your money in the way that is most suitable to you and your situation. I hate that you, bob, and ben (to name just a couple) have recently been having to explain yourselves and why you do things a certain way. Everyone needs to learn that everybody's situation is different and therefore people's methods and processes are going to have to be different. Like you said, you have to do what benefits you the most with the time you have available. But thank you for making videos and continuing to spread your knowledge. I've learned a lot from you over the years and greatly appreciate you.

      @moosescrapper5928  3 года назад +3

      I am sorry you feel that way. But as I have said many times, scrapping is a personal thing. What is time worth to you? For me, I would rather focus my time making more than 100x the profit of scrapping most items by selling them on ebay. A lot of people tend to forget that this is a side job for me, I work full time at my day job, have a family, YouTUbe, Ebay, eWaste pick up, AND scrapping. I personally do not feel like I am getting lazy, just prioritizing where I want my time to go. I still get excited when scrapping, but for different things as my businesses have grown and evolved.
      All the best.

    the local scrap yard in my area will NOT even buy tin, but 50 miles away the scrap yard paid $115 a ton, just yesterday. 5 years ago i called the guy while passing his business on my way to the bigger yard to ask what he pays, he replied THANK YOU, and when i told him the price the other yard was paying he said that he didnt know how they stayed in business paying that price. just last week i called again and price is still THANK YOU, he is so use to getting appliances for free that he refuses to pay for tin.
    sure wish i had a nice big building i would buy the tin and appliances as im a certified appliance demanufacturer by iowa department of natural resources , over 1 million bucks in hospital bills took my fortune.
    myself i sell the tin for no less than $115 a ton, i refuse to sell brass, copper, circuit boards etc... i can always melt that down to make bullets from the lead, copper, and brass, steel etc...
    any thing on the boards i will refine myself when i think i have enough to make it worth while. nitric acid is made free of charge out of battery acid, and heat is free from the sun several months of the year even here in south dakota.

      People feel good for recycling their appliances that’s about it. But there’s a lot more to be made with so many more metals, as you and I know! In my town, if only people knew they could get $10-20 for their appliances rather than PAYING $10 to dump it off at the landfill 1/4 mile from the scrapyard, on the same road, they’d stop there first!
