    It dries the food and then minces it. This is not a composter and the product is not soil. It requires additional energy to make this 'not-soil'. Once the product is added to soil, it will then decompose (after rehydrating by pulling water out of the soil). Why not skip these energy wasteful steps and simply get an actual composter? If you lack a yard, get a vermi-composter.

      @patman0250 Год назад +7

      This is very similar to a composter. Usually composting takes quite a bit more time but it's still achieves its purpose. To not have wasteful things accumulating in the landfill. You can absolutely mix this with any composting soil or even the soil in your yard. Everything in this bucket is completely full of nutrients everything plants need to grow. I wouldn't doubt it if you can grow a plant with just this alone.

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Год назад +7

      So there is a mode where it does turn it into actual soil. It's the "grow mode" and the soil comes out dark black, like actual soil.
      However, I don't think this is worth it. As you said, you're actually using electricity to run the thing. I saw one review that says you're going to spend on average 14 cents every time it runs. By the time you have enough compost to fill a $7 bag you could just buy from the Home Depot, you most certainly will have spent more than $7 worth of electricity, not to mention the $160 a year you're spending for the charcoal and pellets. You can build a compost bin like I did for $75 and end up with much more compost when you throw your food waste and fall leaves, etc.

    If you actually tried to grow anything using the material that comes out of this "composter," I doubt it would do well. It doesn't compost anything. You're paying for your scraps to get heated up, dried, and ground up. The only breaking down of waste that is happening is that it's being grinded into that fluff with none of the microbial activity required to release the nutrients back into the soil. Not to mention they ask you to subscribe to their monthly refills of their lomi pods and charcoal filters which is a common marketing tactic to keep you spending more after your huge investment. You may as well just use a hairdryer on your scraps and throw them in the food processor. The end result will be the same.

Lomi uses between 0.6 to 1.0 kWh per cycle, depending on the mode and cycle time. Cycle times range from 5 hours to 20 hours. In comparison to other appliances, each Lomi's cycle uses roughly the same amount of power required to operate an oven for 15 minutes."

      It's anti-eco-friendly. It uses a lot of energy to fry and grind the scraps. It's basically an air fryer/grinder that runs for many hours and does not produce real compost, just dehydrated scraps.

    • @literallyanything9811
      @literallyanything9811 Год назад +1

      Lizzy, let's start at the beginning. A Chinese company made this breadmaker with a modified timer so it can run for up to 12 hrs. The factory polluted the environment to assemble the non biodegradable plastic, rare earth metals electric motors and electronic components. It was shipped to the USA using a diesel powered container ship. A diesel truck delivered it to the customers. Now, you plug it in to use a kWh of electricity per cycle. I'm sure it's the 4 hrs long one. But they recommend the 12 hrs long one in real life. The electricity is coming from a power plant burning fossil fuels (most likely). All this just to dry out your leftover salad! Which is still not compost. So you throw the "dirt" into the trash anyway. Because it's a badly modified breadmaker, it's not meant to be running for 12 hrs. Many people reported that it broke down after a few months. So the device will end up in the landfill.

    Compost is decayed organic matter that is broken down by various insects and micro organisms. What this machine does is dehydrate food and then grinds the pieces into smaller pieces. It is a $500 food dehydrator. It uses a lot of electricity and you have to keep buying filters. If thats okay with you, have fun.

      Mark, I took it to another room for a couple of reasons. One, I live in a home built in 1927 and it doesn't have many electrical outlets, so I didn't want to blow a fuse if I plugged it in and ran it next to my coffee maker, small convection oven, or blender (which I would probably use at some point in the afternoon). Second, it makes a little bit of noise, and sense I was going to be on video calls all day, and the Lomi runs for 5 hours, I wanted it in a room as far away from me as possible.

    * You have to spend $160 a year on pellets and charcoal
    * You have to actually use electricity. How exactly is that helping the environment?
    * The only mode that actually produces soil that you can throw in your garden bed takes 24 hours to run, using even more electricity than the other modes
    If you have a house, just build yourself a compost bin like I did. $75 and it'll last me 20 years and I end up with enough compost to actually do something with it. The tiny amount made from this $500 device will take forever to fill up a 4 foot x 8 foot veggie bed.

    0:03 "Doing your little part" Is actually worse for the environment than not doing any of this. Either do compost the right way or don't waste the electricity produced by coal fire boiler plants and nuclear plants. It's "eco" the same way a Tesla doesn't use "fossil fuels" but is recharged by coil and nuclear fission. And the batteries are made by open pit strip mining the earth for nonrenewable resources (lithium, cobalt, ect). But for the Hollywood Hill living, need to feel better about themselves "no gas, so good for environmental" mentally having suckers that got scammed. But have enough to not care about the loss or the amount of loss or even the power bill. Than it makes sense, "compost = environmental" but at what cost? Not saying anything about you in particular just ranting about how this product is a scam and terrible for the environment.

Maybe the Lomi is not as efficient right now, but I tend to think it will get better in the future. My view is that any new technology always takes a while to get better over time and we need to keep innovating to get "greener" in the future.

    you’re trying be as carbon neutral as possible by not putting food in a land fill where it comes from in the first place?
    where do you think food comes from?
    it grows in soil which is located in the ground lololol
    so in your mind putting food back into the place it came from is causing a problem?
    could it be that plastic and other toxic junk is causing a problem with the environment?
    let’s do something mathematical,
    you have four pound of waste.
    two pounds food, two pines plastic and other toxic garbage…..when that four pound reaches the land fill, which two pounds is causing the problem for the environment ?
    now you have four lines of toxic waste, going into the same land fill, it’s all toxic so what’s the solution, what do we do?
    hey i know how about reducing the toxic waste. sound like a plan?
    the two pounds of food, and two pines of toxins makes sense now, right.
    God forbid you throw food in with that clean garbage. That rotted food will destroy our planet.
    how stupid, and you fell for that

      Gino, my food is not grown in a landfill in California. I'm not sure about other states, but that sounds pretty dangerous if it was. According to the EPA "Modern landfills are well-engineered and managed facilities for the disposal of solid waste. Landfills are located, designed, operated and monitored to ensure compliance with federal regulations. They are also designed to protect the environment from contaminants, which may be present in the waste stream." www.epa.gov/landfills/basic-information-about-landfills. Also, with the new law passed in CA, according to the LA Times, "Most (compost) will go to large composting centers or to plants that will convert it into natural gas.", not to landfills. www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-12-26/organic-waste-composting-law-2022-recycling#:~:text=Where%20will%20all%20this%20extra%20food%20waste%20go%3F&text=Most%20will%20go%20to%20large,convert%20it%20into%20natural%20gas.
