    I salute the person who removed the transformer from the pole. Very skillfully done. Then transported to an equally primitive workshop where conditions are not only bad but nonexisting. How can one work in such conditions is a subject of research. Let alone repairing a transformer. You guys are INCREDIBLE. And at last hats off to the person who shot the video. Good job done.

  • @hairybear7705
    @hairybear7705 2 года назад +30

    You know what. A number of us commentators, me included, deride the "primitive" work methods shown in so many of these videos. However, there is one quality which comes through every time.......their "can do" attitude. Jobs we softies from the Western world would dismiss out of hand, they tackle with unbounded enthusiasm. These guys don't sit on their butt waiting for handouts, or play the perpetual 'victim'. No, these guys are hard working, resourceful and innovative. I salute them.

      great,but they obviously never seen OSHA in their lives. this job ( the removal n replace part) is easy for us( I am a retired HV lineman here in the Northeast.)is easy enough on a nice day with a 20' steel tower. Try it at night in the rain on a 45' pole,oh and let's add a bit of wind and maybe 40° to that. And the guys in our refurb shop would have done the rehab in less time with a lot more reliability. Fascinating, yet i am puzzled with the work. Back in the 1980's I worked for a company (Emerson Electric) that built power systems large enough to power small cities. They used to wind their own transformers and the biggest miss I saw in the video is how they spliced their connections. The splices and connections should always be arc welded and not twisted together. Also, some of their insulation methods would lead to a short-lived operation. Much more varnish goes into production transformers. The Iron core would also be bettered with a welded core instead of sheet metal bound by a couple of I-beams. Still I am impressed.

    The fundamental product as winding was well executed on what I view as limited equipment. Save for perhaps weldment out of reach to site. As for safety, transport, hydralic lift and various process.....well...I am a bit at a loss to describe. Save as lineman (apprentice) I might call "Lurch" in fact managed disconnect and dismantle to ground, subsequent transport operations. *I would say bare bones with a chain hoist and pipe tripod as (site) minimal gear. The transport as very useful conveyance. Again, bare bones.
    As for the hot work at barrel, the oil containment as near flame might be well changed to piped steam? But, then again, resources seem lesser and where workers might simply face deficit to understand the hazards. (many) at the underlying oil chemistry and de facto environment shown.
    In the end, I'm reminded how tough and resourceful workmen in fact can become. Most with huge patience, good humor and endurance. Still, if offered as service to payment, I would hope some safety might be demanded even if in the simplest of upgrades. I cite native (New Guinea) tribal members to mine haul operators as aptitidue. That silicon oil used as insulation liquid in high-voltage transformers, know by ascarel in many countries, is compound by PolyChlorinated Biphenyl (PCB's). Among the damage to human health, the most common is chloracne: a painful scaling that disfigures the skin and resembles acne. PCB's also cause liver damage, eye problems, abdominal pain, changes in reproductive functions, fatigue and headaches, as well as being potential carcinogens. The creation of hormonal drugs that involve PCB's in their production can also cause hormonal disruption, as in the case of xenoestrogen in women. And that young men handle with it with no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It's so sad.
