Here comes a suggestion that works very well: Get a hallway bench with a big drawer underneath. Put paper bags in it to organize the garbage. It hides everything and you have a bench to sit on. You can put it in the balcony or kitchen. By now you probably have a spoon for the laundry powder. 😅

This is actually a lesson I had to learn. Like for example with food. I used to order all kinds of extras all the time and then be sad it tastes bad. Now when I order something I go for the basic stuff and its always better (for example just ice cream without any kind of toppings, or just pasta and tomato sauce, without any super crazy ingredients.) Don't know if you can relate haha. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed. What kind of videos would you like to see on this channel?

Just found your channel, and I know this was 7 months ago, but you asked a question, so I'll answer it. I find the apartment to be the perfect size for a single person. I have lived in large, two story homes, and I have lived in a studio apartment, which was the size of your main living area, without the entry way, and minus the bedroom and balcony. Very small. While there in Japan, living in a small place is a great way to live, and perfect for what you are doing. Have fun, enjoy the adventure, and I envy you, because I have always wanted to go to Japan.

Well done on being very practical. I see so many people fill their space up with junk decorations and then have to get rid of it all in a few months. You are so sensible.
I am much older and have never traveled. My house (my second) has lots of things in which family members didn’t need and I didn’t have. It was hard to say no. It’s accumulated over the years. I don’t really want any of it but it’s hard to make the decision to get rid of it in case I need it in the future and because of the sentimental attachment. But really I just want it all gone so my place isn’t all full up. I keep trying to shove it all in a couple of rooms I don’t use so that the rest of the place is more sensible and easier to look after. Don’t get in this trap!

While he was doing basic stuff it was fascinating, but when he started going on rich yachts and hitting the fancy tourist spots it got a bit boring.
Tokyo Lens does amazing content, check him out if you havn't already.
Talking of which, he's done a couple videos about digging around the 'Hard Off' range of shops, which are basically second-hand stuff. Might be able to get cost-effective things in them, with some digging?

    • @bernoGarcia
      @bernoGarcia  7 месяцев назад +1

Thanks so much for the advice. I totally feel this. I think Abroad in Japan is a great and entertaining channel but it has become a bit too "sensational" for me. (Which is very good when you are new to Japan and know nothing). I might try a few "sensational" videos here and there, but this wouldn't add much value in my opinion because there are already great creators doing that. I want to add a different side to the "Japan content" field.
Tokyo lens I have only checked out a few videos so far but I'll dig more into that for inspiration. About the "hard off" idea, I actually visited a "second hand shop" to get a chair for my desk. Video is in the editing and will come soon.

Hi. I just subscribed from Australia. I watched your move in vlog and now this one. I’m 66 btw. I would definitely buy a small table and a chair for the kitchen, probably folding ones, then you could move them around to the other room and also put them on the balcony if you want to sit out there and study or eat. Also if you want to eat or cook something you can use your kitchen. I would definitely buy at least 1 cooking pot or fry pan, and basic plate, cup, utensils etc. You never know if you could be unwell one day and you could just use those to make and eat a basic meal. Noodles, eggs, or a hot drink. You can boil water in the saucepan, or get a small kettle. Also please buy some basic first aid things, even just a packet of bandaids and pain tablets. There’s nothing worse than having to drag yourself out to get something when you are sick. Best of luck to you. Wish I had done this when I was young!

Perhaps you should watch vloggers currently posting about living in Japan. In Tokyo and suburbs, particularly. They teach a lot and their styles appeal to multigenerational and multicultural communities. I’m a 73 year old expectant grandmother who has gotten my 46 year old Chicagoan City son, my daughter-in-law and their friends, hooked on their vlogs.

Dam that is a very small place to live in. My flat UK South is 2 times bigger and I still find my place to being to small. Guess I should learn how to live in a minimal way like you and most of the Japanese do. Wish I did not buy so much crap for my flat, but now I have all of it, I just can't seem to get rid of any of it. No I am not a junk collector, my floor space is open in all areas, its the furnishings and books (3000+ books) and 800+ DVD's that takes up most of the space.
Well done in starting this channel and look forward to seeing how you recycle your stuff in Japan, as here, recycling is not that good at all, most people do not care about recycling at all, which makes sense as loads of plastics with the no.2 or 3 on them can not yet be fully recycled in the UK.

Air drying your clothes is best -- a dryer ages fabrics because of how hot the dryer gets. Air drying your clothes will make them stay 'newer looking' longer. When using a dryer the dyes in the fabric fade quickly and become dull.
Here's a hack that I use: When hanging your wet clothes on the hangers -- give all of the seams (where all of the pieces of fabric have been sewn together) a little stretching but do not pull too hard because you can stretch them too far and the threads can break and that will cause them to come 'unsewn'. Once you get the hang of stretching the seams it will be easy.
I can hardly believe that this apartment is only $400/month!! I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, CA, USA and rents are so unbelievably high here!!

Lucky! Nihon go musakashi??? I failed to learn the language...but I married a Japanese woman Matsuko who was eager to learn/improve her English.
Oooh, one big mistake! When you move into a Japanese apratment you buy little bottles of dish soap or something similar and go door to door and introduce yourself and get to know who your neighbors are!!!
ANOTHER VIP THING: thatwall with all the Kanji on it is the door/cover to a ladder for you to be able to escape in an emergency--Matsuko told me that!!! SO...move your rack to dry clothing to somewhere else! ALSO ask someone to tell you HOW to open it!
I have never been to Fukoka--what is it like? Large advanced city? PLZ MAKE COMPARISONS TO GERMANY!
Maybe that $400 rent is special for students?
Are you hoping to become a movie director...or film editor?
RSVP Why did you decide to study NIHON GO? Are you allowed to work? Teaching German or English?
PS I was alone like you just for a short while when I was teaching English in Matsue-shi, Shimane-ken...

Adding a small fridge is a good idea, don't have to go out in bad weather. Also in the long run can save a few dollars (Euros or yen) eating a few meals a week at home. This way you can make one or more meals out more extravagant.
When you do leave offer to sell the items you are not taking to them, post in the building entry if permitted. If not permitted a flier left at the apartment doors. They would appreciate getting needed items at a low price. The place you bought the used items would buy them back from you at a price they could make a profit.
