“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. They cut out Ursula’s iconic song and turned lovable, endearing character designs into CGI that, like most Disney live action remakes, is devoid of expression or warmth.
It’s not all about skin color, you know. I wouldn’t care so much as long as the art was nice looking and they honored the original material and musical scores, but they didn’t. It’s creative bankruptcy in my opinion. The actors can have all the talent in the world, but when a piece of media lacks soul and creativity, it feels hollow and fake.

If I recall, they weren’t talking in the underwater avatar scenes. Ariel is having full dialogue and singing. It truly would not look right had the water been edited in that manner.

Yeah, that voice is a poor man’s counterfeit of Jodi Benson’s with some added vocal runs while sadly attempting to imitate Sierra Boggess’ performance. Although I will give Halle credit on one thing, she can stay on pitch that’s it. Otherwise I’m not impressed.

I am a forty year old woman and when I heard Halle sing « part of your world » it took me back to when I was 7 years old, seeing the original animation for the first time and it brought tears to my eyes. I’m really happy they casted Halle. ❤

I love the part where the same people who said blackwashing Ariel is ok committed arson to Disney's studio in Hawaii and threatened the lives of Disney for casting a light-skinned actress to play the dark-skinned Nani in Lilo and Stitch.

First of all, people have been saying for years that whitewashing doesn’t exist and that the best person should be cast for the part regardless of gender and racial identity. Real historic figures AND fictional characters of color have been whitewashed for over a century at this point. When POC, especially Black people, complained we were told that we were doing too much and WE were the racist ones. Funny how all of a sudden when the situation is reversed, blackwashing does exist and despite the fact that the literal director said nobody else topped Halle’s audition, she can’t play the role because of her race 🤔
Second of all, you don’t even actually know it’s the same people. You’re literally just saying that because it’s what you want to believe. The authorities have no idea who did it or what their motivations were, and if they do, that info has yet to be released to the public

Madelaine Petsch would have been a much better choice for Ariel though. She is a gorgeous redhead who can sing.
Her voice, while lovely doesn't suit Ariel at all. Ariel's voice is far more pristine and delicate and light, Madelaine's sounds lower and has more depth. Halle's voice, while it also has depth and she can really belt, still sounds brighter, more delicate and closer to that of a teenager (Ariel is supposed to be 16). Halle's voice also has an ethereal almost mystical sounding quality that Madelaine's voice doesn't posess.
