In the end though, they were loved. They worked in Charlotte, NC at the grocery store. Their employer and customers loved them very much. They became a beloved part of the community! They were very loved.

Charlotte NC is not the middle of nowhere. I was born in Charlotte NC and remember when the Hilton twins worked at the Park n' Shop. They were born in Brighton UK only one block away from where my daughter now lives.

@@titstatsandkittycats from an article printed in the Charlotte Observer several years ago they were supposed fly Charlotte to meet their manager at Douglas Airport. He never showed up.
Oh my godI just realized that as conjoined twins that would never be separated, that at the end of their lives, that one of them has to die before the other one!!

Eventually, since the other twin isn't there to fight the battle with them, their conjoined part spreads diseases from the passed one, the the one still alive. Nowadays, if one dies, they could possibly do the procedure to separate them, if they couldn't before because of connected organs. That's how many conjoined twins died centuries ago, and all you have to do to see them is look up "circus conjoined twins(freaks)" maybe old pictures as well, and many of them died because the other one passed and the dead body started sending death signals to the living one, or they died trying to get them removed. I think it's only worked once before huge medical discoveries were as advanced as they are now

@@McBrideBoys Well that’s the thing, having the dead body attached WOULD eventually kill you too. There’s no reason to not try to get surgery to cut it detached. The only problem is that this happened in 1969 and maybe medicine wasn’t there yet.
@@McBrideBoys I went and looked it up I had to know it was bothering me 😂 they passed from Hong Kong flu in their home. Daisy went first and then violet passed 2-4days later.

The original siamese twins died like this 😭One could have survived because it was easy to separate.
The other twin won’t survive too long, though. Since they share the same blood (and in other cases, some organs), one will die shortly after.
How could one conjoined twin die, and then one still live, that would be absolute hell, attached to your dead sibling, the poor girls. I hate that they lived such a sad life, they deserved better. RIP beautiful girls 💖🌺🌼🌸🌹🌷🌻💐
I wonder how their illness/death would've been handled NOW.. Would Drs try to separate them? Could they? Then the idea of (a) losing my closest Fam member, (b) having her dead carcass attached to you (c) knowing that being attached to your dead sibling WILL kill you.
I agree with you, this was by far some of the nastiest situations I've ever heard.
I'm guaranteeing, after the first sister died , it wouldn't have taken to much longer for the second sister to pass on..... there's been a couple different stories of conjoined twins... conjoined twins (*especially back in those days) if they shared multiple organs, they were not able to successfully separate them... so when one twin dies, the other twin will live no more than a few hours at the most, after the first has passed away...😢
it really depends on if they have their own organs and how they’re connected etc. like if sometimes if one gets something like a flu or a common cold the other one can possibly get it even worse in some cases, also when I was like maybe 5 or 6 my mom introduced be to these conjoined twins (they were connected at the hip) and I remember one of them got a flu and for the other twin it developed to something 10x worser that ended up killing her and the other twin died like a month later :( they were super rad

They were smart and talented, Houdini was a stand up guy.
Houdini's influence on them is why they ended up poor. They didn't know how to live on their own.
They weighed my produce when I was a child and my dad took me to the store. They had two scales side by side and two lines, one on each side, so they each weighed produce at the same time.
I read a book similar to this. A set of conjoined twins were abandoned by their parents, and after they made enough money, they got a surgery, but one of the twins died. The other twin had prosthetics, and was called “The Living Doll” because she looked like a rag doll. It’s a graphic novel, and it’s really good. Also, the other twin that died haunts the living twin.

I love hearing about conjoined twins as it reminds me of my favourite book ‘one’ which is about conjoined twins where one’s heart doesn’t work so they have to get separated but only one survives
whats wild too is that since they were bound by their flesh through their butt, they would've easily been able to be separated with few complications using today's medicine

For many “Freaks” the freak circuit was the only way to earn a living and many now retired (in an area in Florida) really found it empowering but only if it included independence.
They were so beautiful and talented. Poor girls.

But they grew up that way from birth. They never knew anything different.
On the contrary, if it had been possible to separate them, I'm sure they would have felt very strange, and it would have taken some time to adjust. And even then, they probably would have wanted to always be together and around each other.

I find it hard to believe that a couple of lovely girls would die alone in the midst of nowhere. Their disabilities should be looked past and treated with dignity and respect. I find it repugnant that they were exploited the way they were by a family member. I only hope they found love and peace.

They were in the movie Freaks and in a hilarious moment, one sister was engaged but the other sister didn’t get along with the fiancé, before the end of the movie they both had fiancé’s and the two men were seen discussing that they need to come visit each other like they’d live streets away. Lol

Something not mentioned here was that they weren't allowed to marry. Because of the very conservative and restrictive sex laws at the time, it was considered to be a perversion for either of them to marry because their conjoined twin would be a witness to the sexual activity. It was so utterly unfair.
