I can't think of anything more anxiety inducing or terrifying than being in a sword duel. I would rather be in a formation against a British bayonet charge than a 1 on 1 sword fight.
Been keeping an eye on this game for some time now. It looks so interesting, but also feels like a one trick pony at the same time. Not sure if I would enjoy playing it, but it sure is fun to watch.
Once you get on the multiplayer, it's an endless challenge. There's some crazy skilled players out there, yet unlike many fighting games in that case - you still stand a chance if you pay attention to what you are doing. Been playing ever since the beta and had nothing but fun.
not to worry, one day I will become a game developer and make a perfect game about Ukrainian cossacks, so it will have similar setting, dynamic sword fights, slow paced tactical shootouts and also dramatic and epic plot, you have my word for it😎 not until 2030 though I guess🤷
They are also really fun to play :) The only problem was that one of them took place in the wooden fort, a new map, that is still a bit laggy for me, so the game slowed down a bit. I hope that wasn't noticeably bad
It is possible to play with a VR headset but with the controller. With motion control it would be a totally different game and you would have to have real sword duel skills. Parrying an attack without having physical resistance from the other blade would also be quite difficult. It works in blade and sorcery because the ai sucks.
That's one of the newer characters, Alexander from the ottoman empire! He fights with a north African saber! I just love how they have fighters from all over the world, killing each other with sharp objects is a human tradition :)
It might not be appearant from the video, but a lot of thought goes into each fight, because you have to take into account your enemy, the terrain and the aggressiveness of your enemy. That leads to you having to make different decisions everytime, and as such, making almost every encounter unique. Adding to that, every fighter has a different style, with some having multiple stances and differing attacks depending on which foot is at the front. So if I get tired of just playing Laszlo all day, there are a lot of other choices
@@Ehksoduss Honestly, I see little replay value here. Got bored of it after about 10 combats. Also, the combats against long swords felt too easy considering opponents had a big advantage in terms of reach.
@@danietkissenle Read about it on the games steam page or website. A lot of people were also asking for ninja or samurai but the developers straight away refused.
It will never happen, the game is set in 17th century Poland, though maybe we will see a Scottish mercenary since they were used by the Swedish alot in their wars with Poland
It's a realistic dueling game set in 17. Century Poland. You can choose from a wide variety of characters with different weapons, and as you can see, there are no visible healthbars, since one strike often determines everything. And on top of that, it's really fun.
For the time being, it's just this kind of dueling you see in the video. The developer's stated goal was to make "the most realistic swordfighting game ever", with as much of both look and feel of a real swordfight as they could give it. To that end, they use over a thousand animations, all motion captured from actual historic european martial arts practitioners. It will also eventually have a story mode, but as of right now, the game is still in early access.
They'd probably have to improve the idle animations first, the faces don't move and the gestures look awkward. They're not on par with the actual fighting animation.
You can play it in VR but you still see your character from the side. Sounds a bit odd, but I've been really liking it. It's easier to see what's going on in the actual bout and the maps feel like more than just different backdrops. You can't play in VR in the sense of using VR controllers to move the sword though-that would be awesome, but I imagine it would require almost as much work as making a VR sword fighting game from scratch...
Yes, though that are actually two different types of moves. When you move backwards while attacking, instead of moving the attack is cancelled. Feinting usually is done through special moves. I don't recall Laszlo having a feint, besides maybe "Headgames" at 6:20, but a lot of other characters do. There also seems do be a difference between attacks that are called feints and attacks that have an additional information which reads "feint", though I don't know what exactly the difference is.
I hope by the time this game gets released it's polished up real nicely. some of the physics seem weird but if they get it smoothed out man.. I'll gladly pick it up
This is my hypothesis based on the human anatomy but if your holding it with two hands it restricts your hip movements and motion, hindering your ability to hit from angles. And the weapon he is using is a traditional one handed weapon so it is lighter and shorter so it requires less strength to maneuver with speed and agility and vice visa.
Nope, if it was a long sword like what Isabella and Father Zera uses them yes, but with 1 handed weapons such as sabers and sideswords like what Jacek, Gideon, Laszlo, Barabasz, Kalkstein, Marta and Marie use, it would restrict your movement
I actually can't believe it myself. The video got 10k views in the beginning and I already thought that was crazy, but then it exploded again, getting to 100k. It's insane.
Does it happen online with other players or against the computer? Is it worth buying? Is the project alive at the moment? Which online? In what part of the world are the servers installed (I'm interested in my ping)?
I'll try my best to answer all of those: What I'm playing in the video is survival mode, where you fight against AI enemies with increasingly high difficulty. In my opinion, it's worth buying, since it doesn't cost that much and features the most realistic sword duelling I've seen so far, that is still fun. You can play online against a friend, but not against strangers. For that, only one person needs to have the game - but also a really good internet connection. This has sadly made it impossible for me to play with others online.
Yeah, they get stronger. For the first few stages it feels like it's harder to die than to win, but later on, the enemies get much more diverse moves and sharper blades. At some point the limit is reached, but I don't know when exactly.
