That’s Australia for you. Too busy supporting Americans on RUclips and miss home grown content like this. They’d rather watch daily vlogs of mediocre people doing mundane tasks
Dogs notable picks since flag 2016: pick 19 Tim English pick 28 Patrick Lipinski 2017: pick 9 Aaron Naughton pick 16 Ed Richards 2018: pick 7 Bailey Smith Few other boys I didn't mention but these guys have really made an impact in a short time
I'm a Collingwood supporter but boy oh boy, that 2016 dogs fairytale will forever be one of the most enjoyable final series I've ever watched.... Almost as good as 2010.😜🏁
With an injury list a mile long too, it would have been a fairy tale had we won, especially since the club was mourning the loss of Travis Varcoe's sister.
Great effort. Worth noting that Dogs didn't just 'go to the draft', they overhauled their entire draft/list management strategy after the arrival of Brendan McCartney. Dalrymple was given a mandate to give character and footballing ability equal consideration when assessing best available talent, prioritising the former when making line calls. The team was also deliberately built for finals with an emphasis on contested football and versatility - no clear strategy existed under Clayton. Picking up Liberatore, Wallis, Hunter and Cordy for cheap as father/son selections didn't hurt, either. There was also a lot of luck. The same team failed to make finals for two years post-Premiership and the Dogs have only had four finals wins in the last decade - all in September 2016.
@Soussy not sure if you were trying to troll but that period landed us Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt, Rance, Houli, Grigg, Edwards, Astbury, Grimes, Ellis, Vlastuin, McIntosh. All premiership players now. Just like the Dogs in this video, you need to have sustained draft wins over a long period so you can build up the list. 1-2 good draft years won't necessarily yield success.
There's a great doco called Richmond Tigers: The Lost Years which documents 1981-hardwick in particular looking at the manegerial mistakes that held richmond back. Mostly it focuses on the coaches. But definitely an interesting watch especially if you're a younger fan and wanna understand why things are working now for the Tiges, and why nothing was working for a few decades
The video on freo must point out the list mistakes made during Ross lyon's tenure not just the winning. Like delisting Menagola without giving him a chance, Handling of Fyfe's injury, Demanding gamestyle that tired the players, contributing to late season losses . For example in 2015 our 11 wins in a row compared to the way we finished the season. Matt De boer's departure. No Depth scouting on Drafts. How Mark Harvey built a perfect list before Ross came. Anthony Morabito and Michael Barlow's injury management. Not playing Ryan Crowley in 2015 preliminary final when he held Sam Mitchell to 12 disposals in the Grand Final.
The “coming from 7th” angle is so often overplayed for 2016. That was the tightest 7 in recent history with only one win separating the top 6 and 2 wins separating the top 7. One of the best seasons ever
Love your channel! Have binged most of your videos today!!! So informative, I have no idea who you go for because there is no bias in the videos, which us awesome!!! Keep it up
Loving your mix of impeccable detail and dry wit permeating through these videos. They are what I could only have dreamt of creating as a young obsessed AFL aficionado. 👏
Great video mate! I’m a Lions supporter from Alabama and have fell in love with this game, and I love videos like this to show the nuances of the game and historic moments.
Hey mate I genuinely love your AFL content you are so talented I’d love to see something on carltons 7+ year rebuild or anything on Carlton really you are a legend never stop what your doing
I never actually comment but I really want to say great video! Maybe a constructive criticism would be to also include the players who unfortunately didn't get to play in the grand final but was a reason for their huge success, Bob Murphy, Wallis, Lin Jong just to name a few. They were also taken in the draft and were quite integral in my opinion. Anyways great job fam!
The bulldogs have the best list coming from a Geelong fan , it’s disappointing that they are competing for top 8 instead of top 4 , Give them time to mature and they will win a granny very soon!
Incredible stuff mate! I would love to see you working with the AFL media one day. Would love to see a video on where you think the bombers went wrong, lack of direction, etc.
You will be doing a video on Ports drafting/recruiting in 5 years from now i hope. The 2018 trade period was an absolute cross roads for us, so much to delve into in that period.
I love your videos. If you have made a video about a team that drafts well, could you please make a video about how hawthorn used trading and mature age recruiting to have there success? (You mentioned it briefly at the start).
Could you make a sequel where you talk about how Geelong beat the draft? Talking about their 2001 and 1999 draft class and how they built a premiership dynasty out of it? Players like Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Ling, Enright, Corey, Johnson and Kelly come to mind.
Great video.. Following on from this video I would also point out that the Doggies have nailed most of their first round picks since 2016. The picks being Tim English, Pat Lipinski, Astro Naught, Ed Richards & Bazlenka all form part of the supporting cast to the established players in the current team.
We have really built up a serious midfield forward area, Treloar and Smith are dead set awesome scores. Oh then there are the three giants....still need to work on their kicking though then we are invincible! we really have hung onto our players well since 2016, that shows how good the management is. Our selectors are the best on the league
I think the other thing you’ve gotta acknowledge is the players they traded out of the western bulldogs in the lead up to their drought breaking premiership. They traded out Shaun Higgins and Ryan griffin both of whom are absolute guns. Also they changed the rookie list rules, it is only category B rookies who can’t play but rookie listed players currently can play senior games.
Hi Jagger big fan of yours. Was hoping you could do a video on how the Spotswood Cricket Club Under 13B Friday night team went undefeated and won the grand final . Cheers
Hi Keelan, so good to hear from a fan. From my research it seems like a compelling story that mostly revolves around their star keeper batsman and not much else but I'll keep digging.
Could you do a programme on Richmond? I only started following AFL in 2019 and I’m hooked. I was lucky to follow a team who was so successful but it’s time for other teams now to shine bright eg Melbourne etc
Bailey Smith is surely another gun that proves the effectiveness of the draft
Aaron naughton too
@@kakorot9736 Bailey Smith is a very very disciplined player.
Curtis Gerrand shut up mate he does not. You suck
That was after the premiership
@@kakorot9736 Aaron Norton needs to learn how to bloody kick, come on the other day was ridiculous agains the Giants
These Videos are so good and they dont get the attention they deserve. This is high Quality stuff man. Good job 👍

Great vids, ignore the soccer D$$khead comment, it pops up all the time on anything AFL content

It’s understated how important building a team culture is through the draft is, and the Bulldogs have built a pretty good team culture.
Dogs notable picks since flag
2016: pick 19 Tim English
pick 28 Patrick Lipinski
2017: pick 9 Aaron Naughton
pick 16 Ed Richards
2018: pick 7 Bailey Smith
Few other boys I didn't mention but these guys have really made an impact in a short time
Tony YAYYO personally I think Bailey Smith maybe the most overrated player in the league today but I can’t deny he is a good pick
English, Naughton and Smith are gonna be stand outs. Coming from a (depressed) Dons supporter
Lapinski*
Juh
Jamarra should make an impact too
I'm a Collingwood supporter but boy oh boy, that 2016 dogs fairytale will forever be one of the most enjoyable final series I've ever watched.... Almost as good as 2010.😜🏁
The Bulldogs premiership team photo is one of the most heartbreaking things I've seen in the AFL. Poor Bob Murphy.
DId the umpires feature in that team photo?
These videos are amazing. Would love an episode on Collingwood's 2018 season. It seems they came from nowhere and almost won it all in the end.
With an injury list a mile long too, it would have been a fairy tale had we won, especially since the club was mourning the loss of Travis Varcoe's sister.
This content is great. Have you considered doing one on the 2012-15 freo dockers under Ross Lyon?
yeah that'd be interesting, how they were so good defensively but never won the flag! could make for an interesting video
pllllsssss jagger
Mate, this video is amazing! As a happy Doggies man, you might have to do another one on us very shortly. Fingers crossed!
These are genuinely some of the best on youtube, great stuff!
This guy deserves so much more credit. These videos are absolute quality. Love them!

AND now they have naughton, tim english and BAzlenka to continue this trend. Great vid
I’d still love a video on Richmond’s rebuild in the 2016 offseason.
@Soussy no no clearly the 36 year rebuild haha

Your videos are so well made and interesting to watch. Keep it up man!
These videos are crazy good bro, well worthy of over 1 million views. Keep it up 👌🏽💪🏽
I just watched the movie Moneyball, imo Western Bulldogs are the Aussie Team equivalent with the draft. Great Video
I could listen to this guy talk for ages. I do hope you do more
Video essays and AFL, a niche I never thought would exist. Keep up the fantastic work ❤️

Excellent breakdown. Wish Essendon would focus more on drafting well
Hey mate I genuinely love your AFL content you are so talented I’d love to see something on carltons 7+ year rebuild or anything on Carlton really you are a legend never stop what your doing
Mate you're videos are phenomenal for someone who covers this great game. You deserve more recognition
Great videos mate; really enjoy this so much better than typical AFL docos
Dale is my uncle, made me smile when you mentioned him
I look forward to these videos every week

this is great stuff man, keep up the good work, one of the best AFL videos I've seen
I actual love these videos, quality and good for AFL fans
This is a great video, everything is high quality. Your channel is so underrated you deserve at least minimum 200k lol

Well put together video and story, you must have done a bloody lot of research to produce such an interesting and important documentary. Thank-you.
Dude this is your best video yet. 👌
I love your videos. If you have made a video about a team that drafts well, could you please make a video about how hawthorn used trading and mature age recruiting to have there success? (You mentioned it briefly at the start).
i think cody weightman is definitely one to watch out for regarding the dogs ability to pick well in the draft. the kid is going to be a STAR
These videos are always great and so well researched and explained keep it up mate
The fact you have JL taking a pic with Serong is funny considering that he looks primed to be a Brownlow contender this year,
I said before the season the Bulldogs have the best list of any team in the comp.. love it.
Could you make a sequel where you talk about how Geelong beat the draft? Talking about their 2001 and 1999 draft class and how they built a premiership dynasty out of it? Players like Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Ling, Enright, Corey, Johnson and Kelly come to mind.
love your work mate! High quality videos and extremely underrated! Suggested to do one on the crows adversity and almost success in 2015-2017
I really enjoyed this video being a dogs supporter myself! Thank you for making this! Am keen to hopefully get ourselves Jamarra Ugle-Hagan too!
Thoughtful analysis and very much enjoyed.
Great stuff mate, would love to see one one the actual grand final.
Awesome video mate, very well written and super interesting! Cheers!
If the bulldogs win the flag in 2021 I swear they will beat the entire AFL
Honestly such a good video, keep up the effort!
Please make another video!
Great video! You should’ve also pointed out although unrelated to the draft the trade steals of Shane Biggs and Joel Hamling!
Bloody awesome efforts here bloody awesome

Your next video should be the 2017 GF and the respective fortunes of Richmond and Adelaide and how both teams have taken very different paths since.
Please do a video on How Geelong changed the game in 2007? (With the hand balling)
Love your channel genuinely great content ❤🙌
