I think something else they need to do is show us the Sorcery Scaling on the weapon. It’s hard to tell just how truly effective it is.
It's 78% scaling or Carian Scepter. Chiobite?(something or other) posted a video)
It’s 300
My blue flame returns.
Unfortunately not. What made blue flame good was the fact that its sorcery scaling was based on its magic damage, and it could be buffed. This isn't the case for the Carian Sorcery Sword, its sorcery scaling is hidden, but it's around 282 at 99 int

The only beef i have with this weapon is that it's AoW can't be changed. I love Spinning weapon on staves so much, would be even more fitting to spin that bad boy too... Carian Sovereignty also would seem fitting.
It comes with one of the best ashes of war, though.
Being able to put carian sovereignty would've made it top tier imo
@@AlecFortescue I love versatile movesets, so when your sword has poke-poke-poke and AoW is also one big mega-poke, it makes me sad. That being said, spells on a strong attack make moveset more versatile than just a sword.
@@AlecFortescue It's also one of the most boring and uninteresting ones, on top of one of the most visually underwhelming.
Carian shield + carian parry for mega fashion
If only it wasn't a thrusting sword. Thrusting are my least favorite weapon type. It doesn't feel satisfying to poke stuff. Would have been more awesome a light great sword. Or even a regular straight sword. Carian sovereignty should be turned into a spell to make me want to use this weapon
I agree, lightgreatsword would've been fantastic
Try epee fencing sport and you'll grow out of dislike of thrusting weapons.
wdym, Carian thrusting sword with Fingerprint shield now is incredibly toxic and I love it
Thrusting swords are my absolute favorite lol
@@wilk2220 we each have our favorite playstyle. Not judging. It might be fun maybe for pvp... But in pve it doesn't feel satisfying to hide behind a shield and just poke
YES, I knew keeping it a max was gonna be worth it. Spellblade time, Yesirrrrr
ah sick, I was going to do a run with this sword even before the patch
Wish it was a straight sword,i wanted to dual wield it with the night flame sword allowing me to cast magic as well... Too bad guess ill stick to the carian straight sword
Slap on the carian slicer, makes it like a straight sword, no answer though for you to be able to dual wield unfortunately, hope this kind of helps with at least one.
I didn't even know this sword existed.
The bloodfiend arm was always S scaling and that's how I used it instead after seeing the absurd bleed numbers. I assume the scaling for bleed infusion was toned down
It was, now you need at least 2 hits to proc bleed.
Holy Flame of Messmer... what armor is this ?❤️🔥
Thanks for the video!! What armor set R U using?
Seem to be modded
It is modded Crucible knight in his own mod iirc
@@Arabyss got it, that's why it looks so familiar haha thank you!
Will you change your face to the frenzy eyed winter lantern when you get the chance?
I kinda want to try running this with the carian dueling shield in the offhand. Since it is a thrusting sword, can employ shield pokes. No idea if it'll be good, but I wanna try it anyway.
how is the sword damage compared with like carian glint staff for casting glintstone spells?
WE'RE SO BACK
What is that armor and where can I get it? Is it an available armor set in game or modded in.
so my only thing now is when equipped with a shield you can guard and poke but guard counter only works 50/50 and might put yourself at risk by casting a spell instead
Unfortunately if you wanna cast glintstone pebble from a weapon glintstone Kris’s weapon skill will to 2x to 3x more depending on talismans
what is that armor?! :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I wanna know the same thing lol
Yes please me too
that is a mod armor
What is that armor? Is that mod?
Anyone knows if the weapon can buff itself with armaments from the main hand?
0:21 where did u get that armor,or did u just alter death knight
Me with int focus rellana build:
YESSSSS!!!!!
neat to see they buff this, but ima def stick to using the staff of the great beyond in my off hand over this sword any day personally
I wanna know if you can put the glintstone dart aow on this so I can trick people between the original spell and the aow
You cant change the ash of war sadly
but have they somewhere put any spell damage indicator like the staves?
it really sucks because i wanna compare them to the staves and if the close combat part comprimises the lower damage output for spells in comparison to stronger staves
You will have to just test my man
It does similar damage output to the Demi Human Queen Staff, if you want a frame of reference. Apparently it's actually one of the best things to use as a sorcery catalyst at 40 int and below now
I max out this thing and use it in my run as soon as I know this buff. I want to save a memory slot by using a Int weapon to replace Moonblade, but most weapons have bad synergies with my jellyfish shield due to combat art issue. My previous solution is to dual wield the moon and fire sword.
Being a thrusting sword means I can shield-n-poke in close range; and in longer range now it can cast some decent damage thanks for this buff. No combat art? Won’t be an issue if you have a jellyfish shield on the left hand and a full set of spells you can choose from😂
What armour set is that
Nice. I can now use spells on my int melee build.
You know you can have a staff in the off-hand, right? Very easy to have casting on a melee build, with or without this.
@@krukblood-axe3649 i do have one and don't use it anyways. now i don't need one, that's kinda the point
do you use any other melee weapon besides carian sorcery sword? I'm curious because I'm also running a melee with a bit of sorcery
@@samuel.jpg.1080p yes, moonveil, wing of astel, pokerstick, fallingstar fang thingy, helphen's steepel, death ritual spear, moonlight sword, and a bunch of magic-infused weapons that i like and i switch up whenever i feel like it.
I'm sad that i tried the poker stick AoW that's been added as an infusable one but it doesn't even do half the dmg the poker stick's one do.
Y’all should make a mod that gives the Staff of the Great Beyond an Ash of War that fires Metyr’s pink laser beam
What armor set is that?
Heysel Vortex returns
now modders can make a demon’s scar!
Is the crucible armor you had on a mod?
What armor is he wearing??
Yeah babbbbyyyyyy!!!!! Blue Flame!
It's only good if you want a shield poke caster build.
Thrusting Shield and Carian Sorceey Sword?
@@dedede332 Yeah, I was thinking about using Cold Carian Thrusting Shield, Carian Sorcery Sword, Spear Talisman, Greatshield Talisman, Two-headed Turtle Talisman and the Radagon Icon.
@@zeph2500 “let him cook”
No it's so good regardless
There's not a damn thing OP about this lmao
They really need to start doing catalyst weapon in souls games more often and not just meme weapons like the candlestick.
It finally buff. I wish it were a straight sword and can change ash or have gravitas or unique ash tho.
My issue is you can't infuse a ash of war on it , like at least put carain sovereignty on it if I cant change it
Smithscript weapons were kind of shafted in dmg though. I hope for a buff...
Such a missed opportunity to put carian piercer on here
The game have a patch now ?
What are you wearing?
I wish it were a light greatword though
same
Is that armor a mod?
What happens if you cast Carian Slicer with that sword? Does the sword itself do damage as well?
No since it's the hitboxe of a staff when you use magique
Idk it seems to be a yes and a no. If somethings super close I’ve been able to get it to but if it’s far away and only the magic part hits then not really? It might be a glitch still
This should have been on Lorretas glaive, and Golden Order sword.
I missed blue flame severely in Dark souls 3.. At least it's back in Elden Ring..
I will use this cosplay rwby weiss
bruh teleported in from the past
now if they just let us change the ash of war, the the css might actually be good. I'm not asking for affinities, just let me put sovereighnty on it!
except you can't buff your weapons with magic armament when you dual wield them which sucks because thats how everyone used blue flame. 😞
I wonder if carian slicer stacks with the sword and has 2 hitboxes could be pretty strong
No, it doesn't.
Fortunately they didn't do that, carian slicer is already OP as it is. Strongest DPS in the game on par with Starfist.
Ahh blue flame... you were as beutiful as the day that i lost you
This game really wants me to like blue magic but its so underpowered to how useful incantations are.
It’s less effective then a staff but fun to use don’t know why everyone keeps slapping OP on every new weapon that comes out it’s really not just click Bait
If it can't use ashes of war is kind of the same because why would you not simply use a better catalyst? It could have retained mediocre scaling and just get ash of war usage. That was the key here, not the scaling.
I donno mate, the carian sword sorceries are more than enough for me.
the sorceries act as the ash of war i do wish though that the cast was bound to the AOW button instead of heavy
I've been saying the same thing for every catalyst weapon since DS2. Just wield a staff with a sword. Only upside is dual wielding I guess?
@@c0n33rdw and having a shield on the offhand. now you can cast spells, light poke, block, and use a parry (for example carian retaliation) without swapping, which I guess was the main reason they didn't make spell casting tied to the aow of this weapon.
You can do critical hit to enemies you parried with carian retaliation or backstab without having to switch weapon. Also, since it has very good scaling in INT now, it should hit pretty good as a melee weapon if you want to conserve fp/flask for whatever reason.
Personally, it's a perfect weapon for those wanting to play a spellblade type of character but doesn't want to carry around a staff.
it's not OP at any rate, just a clickbait lol
Is there an incantation equivalent?
The staff dropped by the finger boss can cast incantation and magique, there is no weapon that can cast incantation
Are YOU gonna tell us HOW to GO BACK on FOOt and UN-SUMMON the flying mont ??????
How does the damage compare to, say the carian regal scepter?
It's a bit worse when casting spells. You also lose moveset versatility and ability to guard counter. Staff+other weapon combo is superior. This is a gimmick although not completely useless.
Just tested it myself. The Regal Scepter does about 30% more damage per spell at 80 INT. This is good for a mid-INT investment build, but not so good for an INT primary build.
@@TwistedFox42 Thats a damned shame as i simply cant understand its purpose.
At least not outside of PvP. And even then, wouldn't it just be simpler to have a better rapier as a secondary weapon?
@@TheodoricFriede It's purpose is super niche. At 40 INT, it's actually really good comparatively, so it's meant for a INT/Something build, rather than a pure INT build. Like the rest of the DLC, it is not meant for a pure INT build.
A patch already? Alright.
Also YEAH SWORDCERY!!!!!! >:D
Did he fix the broken head box of the commander boss?
Commander Gaius? They aren’t fixing his hitbox they didn’t fix how he spawns.
Armor
No? It’s still shit damage. Something like a whopping ~30% less damage than carian regal with 80 INT.
0 likes in 12 seconds. You've been getting a lot more popular! Glad your channel is getting bigger garden!
did u put the numbers reversed? because like this its a bit of a meme
Get bent
Just tested it vs the giant near Godrick using glintstone pebble at 99 int. Carian regal sceptre did 491 damage, Carian sorcery sword did 358. So... still bad.
You are comparing the best high int staff with a more versatile weapon-staff, of course it does less damage. Compare it with other staffs and you'll see it's okay now
@@mengatasuzume334 I mean yeah it's a matter of personal preference, but I'd say doing less than 3/4 damage is not worth it.
edit: to provide some more numbers for anyone interested, its sorcery scaling at 99 int is around 282, so compared to the other staves that aren't generally used except in the off hand for their passive bonuses, it still falls massively short. They sit at around 330-350 for the same investment. It's still bad.
@@richardhandcockwhat’s the scaling like with lower int like 40~
Mengatasuzume It's still bad. Heysel Pick in ds3 was a casting tool and weapon, but way less damage difference with the best staff at 60 int and it even had true combos. In this game, with Carian Slicer on Lusat's staff or just a swap to magic infused cleanrot sword, who uses this far inferior tool anyway?
I feel like making it at least the 3rd or 4th best casting tool in game is only fair, don't you?
@@nothingness217 I personally don't because unlike Ds3, the 3rd best casting tool in ER is still insanely good. And comparatively this weapons looks better than Heysel's, you never had any reason to use that weapon with a terrible moveset and mediocre efficiency. The thrusting sword has a much better moveset and it has good reasons for it to be used (shield poking and dual weilding that would be impossible with other casting tools). It's just a versatile weapon with a small niche really
So unless you intend on only casting it's fairly useless. Just stick with the starlined katana.
I still think this sword should've boosted carian sword sorcereries
what set is this?????
It's a mod
I think it's still crap and subpar to wielding something like milady and a staff. 21 dex req is significant.
Maybe it'll finally be usable in pvp but for pve it's still mid.
Seems like they over corrected, S on a hybrid staff/melee weapon seems a bit much, that's higher than many actual staff's.
It literally does less damage
When do people understand the letter shown in scaling means jackshit? The final values are governed by hidden modifiers and base values, the letter just gives a rough guidance into what build it leans into. It's crazy after all these years the series exist...
Other staves have passives that boost spells to higher damage levels. This sword does not so even with S scaling the spells don't hit as hard.
Let things other than bleed be strong
The damage looked awful. Dual staff with Loss for Night Comet or Branch for thorns poops all over it. My night comets hit for 1500+ and aren't dodgeable and Thorns can like 3-4 shot almost every boss. The slow spiral spell (forget name) can also take down big dragon bosses like Bayle in under 10 seconds. No int caster is going to be trading in their staffs for this.
what armor is that
Mod
Wtf is that armor
When the hell is the mod update going to be? Don't just pay attention to RUclips
We are finalizing it as we speak! The new patch changes some things so we are also taking those into consideration, but we are targetting today!
I would say now viable, not OP
It's not OP at all
This patch DESTROYED the perfume bottles. It is such a very severe nerf
Imagine complaining about something that literally broke the game
rolling sparks still functions as intended when not used at the floor all it did was stop the cheese
@@queonjacobs6823 yeah it works as intended now
They were atrociously good before, like, instawin button in almost any situation.
Rolling Sparks is still good, it's just not totally broken. It's best used against large enemies is the thing. Perfume bottles do still need to be buffed though
Imagine buying a book and half the pages are blank lol and the half that isn't blank is just a bunch of mashed up convulted nonsense. Now imagine the publisher and writer of the book told you, they'd finish the rest later and fix the nonsense in the other half. Would you be happy? Probably, low standard weebs like Elden Rung and Game of thrones right? Lolol
Meh.... The weapon is crap still 😂
Honestly, really disappointing magic weapons in DLC and in elden ring in general. Like in ds3 we have insanely cool and powerful wepons like Friede's great scythe, magic dagger crom last dlc, better version of moon greatsword. Nothing close to this ones in elden ring
Honestly i dont like this change. Should have remained a C. Is still a weapon that can cast. Other staves are not actually weapons so its logic for them to have higher scaling. This should have had the lowest scaling but being a thrusting sword allows you to attack. Maybe they should have given it the ash of war customization.
This weapon now totally outclasses any other catalyst, is a rapier.
To be fair, you can pair staves with other better weapons that have access to their full movesets.
It was a dogshit casting tool and a mediocre weapon. This change was necessary.
It would be unreasonable to add a weapon capable of being a catalyst, and proceed to make it's magic scaling poor. That's a bit rude
@@eclipsedsanity9390 fr because then it just doesn't work as a catalyst OR a weapon at least now its useable as both rather than neither
it's still the worst catalyst in the game, just less worse than before. there is no reason why you would ever want to use it.
Click bait. Its a B-Tier now. Not bad, but certainly not overpowered. Problem is there are a lot of staffs that can do its job just as good or better for magic casting, then with the actual sword part, weapons like rogiers raiper still scale batter
No it's S tier, I'm breezing through my second DLC plathrough currently with this weapon
