TIP FOR REMOVING THICK GREASE: I use a heat gun, or steamer, to soften the grease some then use a plastic scraper and it'll scrape right off like sludge, then the cleaner to finish! 🙂

Sometimes people are just so bad off health wise that it is a miracle they can get up even just to make themselves something to eat. Obviously, he’s not up to the maintenance part. The answer is simply to help out when these kinds of folks are open to it. Most people aren’t open to it unless it’s not a family member, sad to say. It’s just the way it is.

When the grease is that thick, step one should be to use a paint scraper to scrape off at least the outermost part. That leaves less to remove, but also it removes the outer skin of the grease and exposes the remaining residue to be more susceptible to chemical cleaners.

I'd be tempted to use a 1,000 amp laser but that's likely to also remove paint if the paint is dark. Such lasers are sold to remove rust from metal and it's the darker colour that absorbs the heat vaporizing it.
I usually lay down paper towels and spray the cleaner onto that till it sticks to the surface then respray every 20 minutes for hours, at least four hours if not longer, really depends on how long I'm willing to stay up though I use an alarm to remind me to spray so short naps are possible.
That oven door is removable without tools, you could actually have it soaking in a bath tub or a disposable wading pool. Disassembly really helps with cleaning.
Waxing the cleaned surfaces several times with car wax might help make future cleanings easier but of course it would then need regular rewaxing hence frequent cleanings but it should be frequently cleaned anyways. I have seen people use mineral oil to dilute the grease and make it easier to clean especially with kitchen cabinets.
I also use those scrub brushes that you attach to electric drills a lot.

You did a great job!👍 If you're truly obsessed with getting the vent hood clean.... get a drill and a bit with a steel wool ball and a degreaser soap (for cleaning and lubrication). Worst case scenario it'll remove the paint at which point just repaint it. Even hand painted would be an improvement. Again, you've done such a great job. Your elderly relative is blessed to have you help him. Thanks for sharing! 😊

My dad was just like this sweet gentleman. My sister and I cleaned up for him, but he had a 3,000sf home! There was a slew of books, shelves and collections of cars, planes, train sets too. Dad passed in January of 2020. We wanted to clean, shampoo carpets and get rid of old furniture. Our youngest brother was dads executor and decided that we should only be at dads while brother was there…locks were changed, cameras were installed, etc. We didn’t get to clean. To this day I don’t understand why he locked us out. Very sad.

Sometimes friends and relatives are just as bad off if not worse so that they are unable to help. Also, usually people like this man don’t have relatives, or their relatives live far away because the person refused to move with them away from what this person considers home and/or refused to move once the health problems became an issue. On top of that, often people in poor health or of poor mind don’t ask for help and/or in fact refuse it because they think it puts people out. They don’t want to be a burden, real or imagined. I think it’s important to tread carefully when looking at situations like this one in the video. We can never really know the whole story. Just appreciate the goodness where you see it and be thankful for it when it happens.

You should pickup a razer blade scraper, they make them for glass cooktops. Love mine, gets those stuck on spills off so easy!

I can not use Ammonia due to health reason. I used boiling hot water to helps soften the stains. Then I used the chemical. I rinse off the chemical to what it did not removed. I then used the metal scrub role. It worked very well.

Honestly he might just be disabled . Cause how does a older person not know how to clean. Even If a wife cleaned and he went to work. Im sorry but that part I can't believe s for cleaning even wiping with dish soap and HOT Water will remove some of that. It's just he did not wash that and let it build up. I know. I get lazy cause yes my back hurts . My depression. Is like I don't care but when it get bothering to me I fight my back and clean the mess. But it HAS TO BE when I want to. sure it may not be perfect but yes it is cleaner then it was . I could see the sides of the stove being build up but not the parts that are visible.. I think 🤔 honestly he has depression. Plus he disabled. And elderly. Not the "I don't know how" lol it is work. And it can be a challenge for some elderly people.

Intense video, seeing all the grease and hearing your cleaning explainations rather stressed me. "The Lost Art of House Cleaning" by Jan Doughtery; she and her book could have saved you hours of time (I once gave a copy to a woman who was hired to clean our house, never to have her back). From the author, Jan Doughtery, and that book I started buying Krud Kutter (usually in the paint deparment of most hardware stores) as my primary deep cleaning solution. It cuts through grease like magic and has a short spray/sit/pre-clean time. It is satisfying to see a cleaned anything, especially one so layered' so glad you got it done for him. (By the way, high temperature appliance paint could fix his exhaust cover, I've only used it a few times, but appliances can look like new after using it.) Happy cleaning.

Seriously? I would have just bought him another oven, he obviously doesn't need one that large now anyway...just an observation.

Yes it would have been nice if she had said it was useful to her to have this cleaning job on her channel, but she bought him a new cooker and hob to make his life better and easier anyway.

Have you tried trisodium phosphate? We have an equivalent here called sugar soap, it's a great de-greaser.

He could get a new hood for about $65 and it would be well worth it. Letting the grease build up around a gas stove like that could cause a fire.

You could use the fan in the hood, if there is one, to help eliminate some of that smell. Also, the remaining yellow places on the front and sides are made of a different material, plastic I think. It is likely stained and will not turn back white, even though you get it very clean.
