So many have tried and still do. No one ever will re enact and surpass our wonderful wonderful Miss Judy Garland I think it's her quest for true romance she owned as a child, lost it and never found it again that killed her.
No one else could have played that role with such perfection. She had “doe” eyes and a look that made me want to transport myself to Kansas and Oz to protect her. My pick for the greatest movie of all-time as it touches the hearts of not only children, but adults as well.
No one will ever touch this song sung this way ever...71 years later & we still listen.
And ten years since your comment and we still listen. :)

Betty Higginbottom
Agreed. This movie relates to every age unlike so many other greats. The greatest movie with the greatest performer of all time in Judy Garland.
will never forget this as my childhood favorite song,
The beauty of Judy and this song in particular is how little effort it takes for her to sing it. She sings like we speak.. goes right to the heart.
i miss Judy Garland "sniff"
Still a very great song done by a great singer!
i love Judy Garland R.I.P I wish i was like her
Shauni Bates oh god no u dont. She was abused by hollywood
So beautiful it always makes me cry.
I miss this child hood when i was watching this in tom and jerry i was 4 that time now im 11 and i remember when i was a kid and i was too late to song this to my dog :( and i really cry this is just so wonderful and beautiful and i really need to hear this song for the one last time...... Its just so sad ..
This song by Judy Garland still touches my heart even still after all these years even though it came out in 1939 , itll give me the hope to find someone soon
This always brings a tear to my eye. She shouldn't have had that kind of life. She was beautiful and talented and all she wanted was a family and to be loved. She was never shown love by her mother and as a little girl thats all she wanted and her mother abused that privilege. R.I.P. Judy!
The media love to say that this film and this song are what made Judy a star. What they leave out is that Judy received her promotion from feature player to star at MGM during the making of this film. And in January, 1939, while this movie was being made, Judy was receiving more fan mail than any other actor at MGM, because the public already knew her and loved her from previous films.
i watched the movie today for the first time and i love judy garland and her singing
You're so right!
This woman has inspired me to be who I am today, love you Judy.
I love Judy Garlands talent, She was a class act and nobody can even come close to singing this song like her.. Pay attention so called stars of today ,, Judy was what real movie stars were all about.
I wish me and my friends where there
beautiful song that goes straight to the soul
a song that describes the time of the great depression D;
and its so beautiful~
its wonderful, how certain songs will awaken those oldfimilar feeling.. that make your heart smile, and sing along with
Now it will be the 80th anniversary.
@KennySherman I had quite the crush on her as well since I was a little bitty thing. LOL. Her voice melts my heart, especially when I hear this song! Plus, she was absolutely gorgeous! Add all those talents? WOWZA! :)
My eyes always tear up when I hear this song...
Love it. I've been listen to the cover by Melody Gardot. Personally think it's also very beautiful.
1939! It's hard to believe... The World War II began. Wonderful song and wonderful actress and singer. RIP Judy Garland. And the dog and the hens...
Keep in mind that this song was voted the greatest song of the 20th century...and well it should be. Haven't we all wanted to go over the rainbow
She is still the absolute best. She set a standard that many aspire to but cannot hope to reach. Its too bad we don't have singers like her anymore. Classic song still being listened to and loved 70 years later. Rest in Peace Judy, you belong in heaven with all of the other angels.
Gee Dorothy, only if I had a heart.
My heart just melted.. this is judys song not some hawaiian person
This song would have been played at Judy Garland's funeral.
What a lonely song.
And she was only 16 in this movie
OMG!! It's on my BIRTHDAY! August 12!
The Reservation is where certain laws do not have to exist. If you are a native on your own remaining land allotted. You may do as you will. Just so long as you do not bring any outsiders to your last land. peace pipe 16=16=32 acronym. breaking bad for instance...
when did she die
her funeral was just before the stonewall riot... coincidentally (?)
was judy a contralto?
How old was she at this time?
gussiebee.
She was 16. At the time she was forced to smoke 40-80 cigarettes a day and eat soup to keep her looking thin. Any mistakes she made, she would get slapped and hit around.
@@zirconium2014 that is so sad to smoke 40-80 cigarettes a day

Judy Garland remains a national treasure. She was one in a trillion. So powerfully sung and felt, this song should last until the Second Comng. God forbid hip hop and rap, and other ungodly expressions, lead continue to lead our country into degradation and judgment.
Toto looks uneasy...he must want a tummy rub!
