AMAZING!! I'm a wedding videographer and use an fx30 as my b cam covering the ceremony from the back of the room. As a solo shooter this will be incredible for me to be able to monitor my camera from across the room. Thanks so much for the video!
Exactly what I do when capturing live shows. And, believe me, it works so flawlessly. Last Novembre, I even managed to film a musical duo with a 3-camera set-up, including my FX30 at a distance with my smartphone-turned-monitor settled atop one of my other cameras. The lag is logical, but absolutely not a problem for the dual-card system allows for peace of mind because lag does not mean anything to worry about. I'm using Monitor+ app with my iPhone hard wired to my A6700 and it's working well.. with most of the features mentioned here, very little lag and battery drain using cable connection.
Does this also include the camera audio? It would be awesome to give the Producer an audio feed, especially when doing wireless audio directly into the camera.
I am SUPER excited for this! The biggest reason I hate using an external monitor is I would lose the ability to touch track AF. So I would still have to constantly reference the little LCD. Not anymore!
Sounds great! I currently use the monitor plus app with my tablet and it basically has all the features i need. But I use it connected with a type C cable for even less latency. It's great to be able to control the camera remotely, specially for musicians who like to film themselves haha

Hi Mark, this is really interesting about firmware updates for the A7SIII. I am in the UK and have 2 of them currently. I saw another video with a chap saying Sony were abandoning updates for the A7SIII. As I have contact with a lady in Sony Europe, I immediately emailed her, linking the video in and asking why, especially still being current, were Sony dropping firmware updates. She actually didnt reply, but from what you have just said, it seems Sony have listened. Not sure about other models but for FX30 it pops up a warning message when you are using a third party battery and it does not show the battery level anymore.
yeap, sony should fix this problem. It does not show the battery level at the camera's LCD. But at the same time it shows through MonitorControl and others applications (and after camera restart one minute shows at LCD)
Hmmm I installed it and it basically doesn't work. The creators app recognizes the camera but if I want to use remote shooting or the Monitor & Control app. Nothing happens. With my Sony A74 I don't experience this problem. I noticed that it want's to pair. But fails to connect
Hello mark, i've been following you since sony zv-e 10 came out, i'm currently doing internship (19year old) and saving money to buy camera my budget is around 1000$, would zv-e 10 good for cinematography? I'm thinking to use gimbal too or should i wait longer (probably 6-9 month)to get a6700?
The zv-e10 is great - but the a6700 is much more camera and you will able to use it for many years. If you are into cinematography, you will appreciate the 10-bit 4.2.2 eventually and 4k 60 and 4k120. Plus the stabilization is so good that you may not need a gimbal in many situations. If you can wait longer, the a6700 will be worth it. But if you need something now - get the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 16mm 1.4
Seems like a great option to have. The false color feature reminds me once again how ridiculous it is that they don't offer that feature IN-CAMERA!? Coming from Blackmagic, I'm really missing that on my FX30. I always end up using the false colors on my Shinobi with the FX30, but I'd love to hear from anyone if there's a "technical" reason why they don't include this feature in the camera.
E10 work? I just got the original ZV e10, during setup it gave me a QR code to download the app so I assumed that it would be compatible, can you confirm? Because the app in the camera won't acknowledge each other
Well this is an exciting convenience for me. I just can't figure out how to get it to connect with my iphone. I made sure to turn off the Airplane Mode on my FX3. But the app is not finding my camera, nor visa vera.
first, unpair your phone to the fx3 in your phone Bluetooth settings. in your fx3, go to network and make sure Bluetooth is enabled and then go to “pairing” and press that. then connect the app
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I realized I wasn't updated to version 3.0 So I'm doing that now... Hopefully that will make the option "cntr. w/ smartphone" show up in the Network menu, because currently the menu is lacking certain options described in the SONY website instructions.
unpair your iPhone to the FX30 if had been previously paired (in your iPhone Bluetooth settings). On your camera - go to network, make sure bluetooth function is on and navigate to "Pairing" click that and then pair on the phone
Hey Mark… Great vid as always but, like the Creators’ App, this also is not available here in Brazil. Maybe they think we are all “bananas” here. The workaround still is the Monitor+ app and external monitors, of course….
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Oh? Interesting. Is it attaching in a different way to the Monitor+ app? I use that a fair amount and haven't noticed a problem.
@@TW-iu9zy Which features? As far as I'm aware (having changed from FX30 to A6700) all of the features that Mark is showing this app do, are things the A6700 does,. And the A6700 is pretty much a cropped sensor version of the ZV-A1, which is going to work with this app. Or do you mean they have said this App will only work on the FX-Line?
So its a monitor+ clone with less features and won't work with a cable.. o well its a step forward i guess if they need to enable it by a a1 firmware update at least means we are getting a A1 update. Monitor+ does most and more of the features you show today so wonder what calls it can't do on current models.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i do wonder about the new parts they added to the protocols that could make monitor+ even better they seem to mostly in the area of feedback from the camera for things like focus. Also with usb-c now on new iphones also having wire work like monitor+ on ipads would be plus. Lastly does it also work on ipads and scale correctly?
Is anyone having issues connecting anything to their FX3 via WiFi or bluetooth? After connecting to my RS3 Pro a while ago, I can no longer connect my phone nor my bluetooth remote. I'm also having a hard time connecting to this new app, even after the 4.0 update. The RS3 Pro still connects though.
It doesn't work. I went through everything I can think of and the 10 steps Sony asks you to do on their troubleshoot page. My wifi and bluetooth simply doesn't work on my FX3 anymore however, my A7C wifi and bluetooth still connects to my phone, gimbal, and remote. Contact Sony and ask for help. This is from the Update site itself: "When updating from Ver. 1.02 or earlier, you need to update to Ver. 1.05 before proceeding with the Ver. 3.00 update. Only update to Ver. 3.00 after updating to Ver. 1.05. If you try to update to Ver. 3.00 without updating to Ver. 1.05, an error will occur and you will not be able to update." I had version 2.0 which I had done via the website I went thru the app to upgrade to 3.0 I hit execute & it stayed black til the battery died waiting on Sony to send shipping label @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
After trying this new app with my FX6 today, I am pretty disappointed overall. it really is not much different from the CBM app. The latency is significant, too slow to really use for any manual focus pull, other than for a completely stationary situation, and the image resolution is too low to really see exactly what is in focus. The Monitor+ app, on my A7s3 works beautifully and IMO, blows this new Sony app out of the water. Don't take me wrong here, I had really hoped that Sony would up their game on a new monitoring/camera control app. But they have missed the mark yet again. One would think that with the popularity of the FX line of cameras Sony would make a little better effort to support the end user experience and toolkit......
A7siii is the last SONY Mirrowless Camera i will Ever! Buy, only their Cinema Cameras line-ups, I don't mean Cinema Cameras in DSLR bodies FX3, FX30, I mean actual Cinema. I see those cameras get more Love from Sony than Others...BORANO where are you..😂
App is the same stuff as the creator's app. Taking out 3rd party battery levels though? Seriously? I wouldn't have updated if I knew that was the case!
I don't think they will, I reached out to Sony support who told me that "It's up to the third party battery makers to keep up with their requirements"@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis You can still see the battery bars (not percentage) when pressing FOCUS MAG and in the app, so at least there's that.
Official answer by the EU: "We would agree that consumers should have the right to replace original portable batteries in cameras and other appliances with compatible ones. This provision was included in the Commission’s 2020 proposal for a new Batteries Regulation and was developed further by the co-legislators during the ordinary legislative procedure. The final text of the new Batteries’ Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union in July and entered into force on 17 August this year. In its Article 11, which shall apply from 18 February 2027, it stipulates that, as a general rule, portable batteries incorporated in products should be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user at any time during the lifetime of the product. It is considered that a portable battery is readily replaceable where, after its removal from an appliance, it can be substituted by another compatible battery without affecting the functioning, the performance, or the safety of that appliance. Furthermore, Article 11 also stipulates that software shall not be used to impede the replacement of a portable battery, or of their key components, with another compatible battery or key components."
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis But shutter angle isn't...so one doesn't have to faff around when changing framerates. Or did I miss something? ( I hope I did because countless people have been begging for this feature)

Great video. I can’t seem to get any focus peaking info on the monitor app. Am I missing something?
Unfortunately, it does not have it. Which is too bad - I didn't realize it at the time of making the vid.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis that’s a bummer. Can’t think of any technical reason to not have it.
Thanks for the info, how does this work compared to the CBM program? The CBM on my fx6 was super jittery.
I've never used to - so I'm no help - sorry!!
Big thing is the 3.00 update kills third battery support and you can't go back to the previous version
I am in the same situation !!!! please @MarkBennettCameraCrisis, talk about it !!!!!
just pinned a comment about it
Merci!@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Hmmm I installed it and it basically doesn't work. The creators app recognizes the camera but if I want to use remote shooting or the Monitor & Control app. Nothing happens.
With my Sony A74 I don't experience this problem. I noticed that it want's to pair. But fails to connect
so you recon a6700 will get the app too?
anyone know if it reduces the battery life of the camera if you're monitoring via the APP and by how much?
Mark - How does it fare against the Monitor+ app. Use that with a small ZV-E10 via usb-c. Thanks!
The monitor+ is definitely better in a lot of ways - more features like zebras and peaking and can be hard wired in so no connection issues
Does anyone know how many devices can you connect?
3:40 I laughed so hard on this moment. you’re not wrong but it’s comical in a way
Can it be wired with usbc?
Monitor + is the winner
it is better overall for sure
could you please explain what Auto focus assist on\off does? thanks
Just punches in so you can focus more precisely
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis so is it better then to always be on just in case?
Thank you so much for the advice, i'll take it, and do an upgrade later on then❤
Seems like a great option to have.
I would love false colour and proper shutter angle in camera
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oh right...another feature I don't understand why they're not including in the FX line.
A7iv? 🤞🤞🤞
Hopefully - they are doing the a1 and a7siii in March so maybe after that
E10 work? I just got the original ZV e10, during setup it gave me a QR code to download the app so I assumed that it would be compatible, can you confirm? Because the app in the camera won't acknowledge each other
No - this app is only for a select few camera. You need to use Sony Imaging Mobile app for the ZV-E10
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you very much! For the video, and the reply!
Where's the A6700 love?? 😢
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I realized I wasn't updated to version 3.0
So I'm doing that now...
Hopefully that will make the option "cntr. w/ smartphone" show up in the Network menu, because currently the menu is lacking certain options described in the SONY website instructions.
how does this compare to the monitor plus app?
monitor + is more fully featured
Doesn't exist this application in play store
So you are saying the 7s3 and A1 will get a firmware update 🤔
in March 2024 the press release said
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis wow that will be huge.
the focus control is the best ...
Can I take self portrait
Is there false color buit-in in the FX3 ?
no - it doesn’t have false colour unfortunately
It's good to see that not everyone is drewling over the "new" iPhones... ;)
they’re all the same now - plus I use cameras for cameras 😀
You need one of the new iPhones in order to run this app. I am on iOS 14 and it requires 15.7
I could NOT get this to work on my FX30 with iPhone 14 pro. Any tips? Tried everything
unpair your iPhone to the FX30 if had been previously paired (in your iPhone Bluetooth settings). On your camera - go to network, make sure bluetooth function is on and navigate to "Pairing" click that and then pair on the phone
Thanks for your reply. Sadly I tried all of that ;( I assume the app is buggy@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
@matthewgriswold did you update your firmware to 3.00 ? (released yesterday)
Anyone know what max distance this works between camera & phone/tablet? Is my Accsoon Cineview redundant if I want to use this as a wireless monitor?
Hey Mark…
Great vid as always but, like the Creators’ App, this also is not available here in Brazil.
Maybe they think we are all “bananas” here.
The workaround still is the Monitor+ app and external monitors, of course….
wow - that’s too bad
Where is the sony zv-e10
So cool. And so much better than Monitor + app. I need this on my A6700 now 😂
hopefully they will roll it out. However - my guess is that the connection will heat up the camera faster. Even my fx30 got pretty warm!!
… don’t think they will. these are features Sony spent only for the „professional“ FX-line. 🤷🏼♂️
Yes - the Monitor+ is still a good option for more of the Sony's
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i do wonder about the new parts they added to the protocols that could make monitor+ even better they seem to mostly in the area of feedback from the camera for things like focus. Also with usb-c now on new iphones also having wire work like monitor+ on ipads would be plus. Lastly does it also work on ipads and scale correctly?
i wish they release it for Sony Zv-E10 also 🥺
that would be nice!!
They should add it for us cheap A6700 users.
And the reason why they wouldn't give it to the zv e1
No peaking?
Yes - big miss. Hopefully that will be added.
Whoa, come' on A7Siii!
Is anyone having issues connecting anything to their FX3 via WiFi or bluetooth? After connecting to my RS3 Pro a while ago, I can no longer connect my phone nor my bluetooth remote. I'm also having a hard time connecting to this new app, even after the 4.0 update. The RS3 Pro still connects though.
unpair your phone from the fx3 (in your phone bluetooth settings). then on your fx3, in network - select “pairing” and then pair the MandC app
Oh well, I'm sure it's a useful feature to those who can connect.@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Super
Gonna wait till I get the iPhone 15 pro max #gonnawait
Does anyone know if I can add LUT through this app?
you cannot load the LUT into the app, but you can, of course, add the lut in the camera
Mark Mark Mark..have you heard the news...Panasonic G9 MarkII oh my god...my Sony loyality is faltering...oh noooo tears in my eyes I have gone back to panasonic...god damn 8 stop ibis and new auto focus magic...😎
when it gets into the G95 - that’s when I’ll be really excited cause I love the cheap stuff. but the G9ii looks amazing
I know I'm watching Josh Yeo cause of the denim shirt.
Yo-yo.
did the update now my camera has a black screen & a blinking red light for over 30mins🤬🤬🤬
1.05, an error will occur and you will not be able to update." So if you tried to update to version 3 with 1.02 or earlier - that would explain your problem
I had version 2.0 which I had done via the website I went thru the app to upgrade to 3.0 I hit execute & it stayed black til the battery died waiting on Sony to send shipping label @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
oh no - hopefully Sony can give you a speedy fix.
shame there's no focus peaking
The latency makes this very limiting.
external monitor is definitely better -can use this in a pinch though
After trying this new app with my FX6 today, I am pretty disappointed overall. it really is not much different from the CBM app. The latency is significant, too slow to really use for any manual focus pull, other than for a completely stationary situation, and the image resolution is too low to really see exactly what is in focus. The Monitor+ app, on my A7s3 works beautifully and IMO, blows this new Sony app out of the water. Don't take me wrong here, I had really hoped that Sony would up their game on a new monitoring/camera control app. But they have missed the mark yet again. One would think that with the popularity of the FX line of cameras Sony would make a little better effort to support the end user experience and toolkit......
hopefully they will listen to feedback and improve it overtime. The Monitor+ is really great
Your face is not dum! 😉
you’re right - it’s super dumb
Big Influencer please make ad Focus Peaking
fingers crossed.
A7siii is the last SONY Mirrowless Camera i will Ever! Buy, only their Cinema Cameras line-ups, I don't mean Cinema Cameras in DSLR bodies FX3, FX30, I mean actual Cinema. I see those cameras get more Love from Sony than Others...BORANO where are you..😂
It is SO sad that we just can't download this app from Brazil. Sony hates us.
that is too bad!!
App is the same stuff as the creator's app.
Taking out 3rd party battery levels though? Seriously? I wouldn't have updated if I knew that was the case!
it was a bummer they did that. hope they reverse course
I don't think they will, I reached out to Sony support who told me that "It's up to the third party battery makers to keep up with their requirements"@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
You can still see the battery bars (not percentage) when pressing FOCUS MAG and in the app, so at least there's that.
Official answer by the EU: "We would agree that consumers should have the right to replace original portable batteries in cameras and other appliances with compatible ones. This provision was included in the
Commission’s 2020 proposal for a new Batteries Regulation and was developed further by
the co-legislators during the ordinary legislative procedure.
The final text of the new Batteries’ Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 was published in the
Official Journal of the European Union in July and entered into force on 17 August this
year. In its Article 11, which shall apply from 18 February 2027, it stipulates that, as a
general rule, portable batteries incorporated in products should be readily removable and
replaceable by the end-user at any time during the lifetime of the product.
It is considered that a portable battery is readily replaceable where, after its removal from
an appliance, it can be substituted by another compatible battery without affecting the
functioning, the performance, or the safety of that appliance.
Furthermore, Article 11 also stipulates that software shall not be used to impede the
replacement of a portable battery, or of their key components, with another compatible
battery or key components."
Well there you have it!!
did they really not include shutter angle 😅 These people are psychopaths
variable shutter is there - you can change in increments of.1 - so it’s helpful for flickering lights
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis But shutter angle isn't...so one doesn't have to faff around when changing framerates. Or did I miss something? ( I hope I did because countless people have been begging for this feature)
No - you didn't miss it - I definitely want shutter angle in the cameras and it isn't there - but at least with variable shutter, you can remove flickering lights - which is better than before
pointless app, how is this different than creator app?
no peaking/focus map, no ZEBRAS, no AUDIO levels, which are arguably the most important things to monitor.
AWFUL implementation from Sony.
definitely room for improvement - but it's a start - hopefully they will listen to feedback
