This app is great I'm just wondering why they're not showing the audio levels as well, it's SO important! Still need to check my camera screen for that
You might be happy with the audio, but I see you have the RE27N/D, it’s a great mic… I would try suggest you enabling the high cut filter on the far right switch… try that and see how it sounds to you
The Sony's advantage seems to be the Creator's App, which allows you to receive the image on an iPad and perfectly manage the focus with an assistant with a lens that of course works in autofocus or manual mode with an internal motor, so there's no need to add an external motor. I can't find the Panasonic equivalent anywhere.
Yesterday I was on a shoot and the Sony Monitor and camera app was kind of a nightmare, and I was just trying to use 1 camera (FX30) and my iPhone. Took me forever to get it connected but once I did it worked until I turned off my camera or closed my iPhone. When starting my camera back up it would always give the failed to connect to the camera warning and then I would have to fiddle for over 20 minutes trying to get it to connect again. Cannot remember what sort of worked but basically kept having to turn off bluetooth or remove the camera from the app other wise it would never pair even after pairing the first time before I shut the camera down? Any body have success getting it to work properly or what the exact way is to get it working and keep working automatically every time I want to use it or turn my camera off? Seems pretty useless if just turning the camera off makes this happen? Thanks !
Do either of the apps include the audio part of the signal? It would be great for the Producer to hear audio, especially when there is wireless sound going directly into the camera.
I have two FX3's on 5.0.1 and they pair nicely to the app, but when I try to do Multi-Camera Monitoring the iPad doesn't recognize the cameras. I have the iPad and cameras on the same WIFI network. Any idea how to get this working?
Thanks for this helpful review... did you ever try to see how far you can be from the camera before you're unable to hit the record button? I'm trying to use on FX3 (will rent) and need to remote from a distance but worry it will be a problem like it is with the ZVE1. Please let me know if you know the answer. Thanks! :)
@AANasseh, I haven't tested it to be too far from the camera. All I can tell you is that it works great and no issues with the connection when I was about 2 to 3 meters away from the camera. All the controls were working at that time and didn't really lose connection at all. This is great if you're doing interviews. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching the video! 🙏🏽
@@BernieHipos Thanks but that's just not far enough for me. I need to know if I can shoot and monitor simultaneously while using a 70-200 lens. So, I want to be at least 15m away from the camera. I guess I just have to ask around. Thanks.
I wanted to let you know you will want to turn off power supply via USB in the camera settings, otherwise the camera will draw power from your iPhone. Which is probably not the best for battery health in the longterm. The creators app actually suggests this as a step when setting up.
@_jonkent, I haven’t tried, and I don’t think you can. Sorry Jon I have no definite answer, just a wild guess. I appreciate you asking and thank you for watching the video! 🙏🏾
@jakubplecho8973, I don't have any external monitor except for the iPhone 15 so I can't say. And yes, the app is necessary for the battery percentage to show on the iPhone. Thank you for question and for watching the video!
Couple of questions, I tried monitor app a 1 year ago and it just constantly kept getting disconnected and was unable to use it. I tried every setting, wifi, bluetooth or whatever and never stayed connected for more than 10 seconds.. And My Camera App from Sony does not show me the click to record in red to start recording? the button is there but it is not red or does not do anything? Any suggestions? iPhone 14 Max Pro and Sony A7IV here... Thanks!
@ekphotography, thanks for your questions! The Creators' App only works for Sony A7IV from version 2.0 or later. If you have the required firmware version and still not connecting, you may want to quit the app (you can also restart your iPhone) and then turn the camera off, and then release the battery. Once done, re-launch the Creators' App, then turn the camera back on and restart the connection process. I hope that it'll do the trick and you'll be able to connect. As for the Monitor & Control App, the Sony A7IV is not supported yet as of this writing. Thank you for your question and for watching the video! 🙏🏽
@petem1554, I haven't tried and I am not so sure if there's a way to revert back to 2.0. My only solution is to use the Monitor & Control app since it's showing the percentage there. Good luck and I hope you'll find someone who has the solution.

@farhan_adenan, thank you for your question! Both remote apps only work as monitors and can’t playback images. Make sure your camera settings "USB power supply via USB" is off, otherwise, and I noticed this very quickly luckily, it will draw power from your iPhone, which I'm sure is not good for battery health in the long run, and may be contributing to your overheating issue. This is actually a suggested step when setting it up with creators app. Although if you are using WIFI connection I'm not sure.
I just got a Ronin RS3 and if I connect via Bluetooth I can no longer connect to the Monitor App, Is that normal? Bummer really , I guess Ronin is using the Bluetooth so the app can no longer connect to the Camera and Monitor app..
@ekphotography, my guess is that you can only connect one device at a time. If the RS3 has WiFi connection, that might solve the issue, which I believe the RS3 doesn't have. Sorry I don't have a concrete answer to your question since I don't have an RS3. I appreciate you asking and thank you for watching the video! 🙏🏽
@@BernieHipos Thanks for responding, The RS3 does not have Wifi connection but my FX3 and FX30 do but every time I try to connect via wifi it does not ask the camera to make it's own wifi but ask to connect to a wifi network which is weird. Too bad that this app does not have any control for the audio part. There is not even a way to set or monitor the audio levels. It would've been helpful to at least see the audio levels. In the tiny screen of the camera, you can see the levels but it is such a tiny view. With the Canon app made to control the Canon cameras, you can actually see the audio meters on your phone or tablet. And even control the audio signal using your phone / tablet. What a bummer!
@TelevisionCrews, I totally agree, and in the Monitor & Control App in particular, there's still space on both sides of the screen. I don't know why it's not been added to this day.
