I’ve been playing guitar off and on for 6 years and I can play that main riff pretty easily. It’s just tapping a few notes and keeping your lower fingers on the lower frets. Nothing the great Rick Beato can’t handle :)

What I love about Plini's music is even when it gets heavy, there's still a lightness and playfulness there that belies what is going on with the rhythm guitar. A breath of fresh air that sets the music apart from many current progressive bands. It's wonderful!

I love this comment, very well said! you just described perfectly why they are my favorite prog band, I love metal and electric guitar but im kind of over the angry style of it.
Rick keeps saying "melancholy" over and over in this video and yet all I can hear when I listen to Electric Sunrise is "inspirational". This song feels like waking up in the morning and walking out to the pond in the middle of the woods, where the trees break and the warmth of the morning begins to dissipate the cool dew that propagated on the grass in the early dawn. The sun is up and nature is finally coming alive while you are alone in its majesty getting to experience all of the color and vibrancy that comes with tranquility you can only find in that kind of space. I listen to this song all the time and It just reminds me of those mornings hunting or fishing with my dad back when life was simpler...

This is one of my goals as musician. Imagine writing and playing the music you like and start gaining traction. Then one day you are watching videos and see your name on the title. First it must be like "wtf", then you open the video and its a Rick Beato's video. Then he says that Steve Vai told him about your music.

Plini is just pure genius. Progressive music doesn’t need to be 10 minutes of theory, all music needs melody and feel. Plini is the perfect example of this.

There's another guy that does solo videos and has a style similar to Plini but his name is escaping me, but it's just amazing seeing people taking guitar to this beautiful/heavy/layered new territory

Plini is a great guitarist no doubt, but it's his arrangements that keep me listening, so much color and variation.

@@olivierbourgault3032 As I said I'm not very fond of this kind of over-produced stuff, I like less guitar effects and layers, as you named it, and in general I don't like the sound of nowadays records. It's a matter of taste for me, after so many years of collecting records and listening to rock music I became very picky and suspicious about modern day stuff, which I find usually too much derivative... For me 'the song remains the same', but using state-of-the-arts methods to record it It's kinda contradictory and not my cup of tea

I laugh so hard, every time he like a moment (basicly at every moment) he says that

having played and loved guitar for 42 years I was becoming a little tired of hearing yet another guitar saviour.... then along comes Rick and introduces me to Plini. who's music demonstrates that inventive, melodic, well played guitar is alive and well. Plini has totally moved on instrumental music from the eighties and nineties shred fest and given it back a tune that you can remember while still displaying absolutely incredible technique.
Jimi Hendrix, Edward Van Halen, Plini. three big steps in the history of guitar.
A fantastic example of how this series promotes the music of the artist he showcases and conversely how the clowns from big record companies who block this wonderful content are so very very short sighted. To highlight this I’m off to purchase this artist’s music because of this wonderful demonstration and the fantastic new music I have just discovered.
Man, I saw the Plini/Intervals tour, opening for Animals as Leaders in North America, and after their set, I immediately went to the lobby and bought Plini's album: Handmade Cities. He (backed up by the Intervals guys) just *Blew. Me. Away.* So I'm absolutely thrilled that Rick is going through this album opener, which in my opinion, is one of the best progressive songs ever.
Saw this tour in Philly and was completely blown away by Plini and was blow away by his solo performance and with Aaron in Intervals (i had never heard of either of these guys/bands) and of course Tosin and Javier just crushed it ! That tour was a guitar players wet dream fantasy tour for sure ! An amazing breakdown by Mr. Beato as always !!!!

My son is a huge AAL/Abasi fan so we went primarily to see them, but were both (we both play fairly well, but not like any of those master craftsman !!) just completely blown away by how amazing P and I were. Being old enough to remember hearing/buying early Satch, McAlpine, Vai and all the Shrapnel shredders (I''m talking early in ALL of the above careers), I was almost ashamed to pick up my guitar for a few weeks following the show.

Plini played live as an opening act to TesseracT earlier this year, I'd say they stole the show..! Had never heard of them, but they went straight in as one of my top bands. Great to see this breakdown.

I've been waiting for this for a loooooooong time! Plini, Intervals, David Maxim Micic and Karnivool are basicaly the stuff I've been listening to for quite some time! PLZ do KARNIVOOL too, they have some interesting stuff in terms of arrangements and sonic shaping. Keep these vids going, I'm learning a lot and I love it!!! :)

I have been a Karnivool fanboy since 2004, Octane on XM at the time, had Themata as the backing track to their station's commercial. I killed the CD player in my old vehicle looping Sound Awake. I think Deadman, Goliath, Simple Boy, or Change Pt. 2 would be my top picks for a review. Such a great band.

If you love plini, look into David maxim micic. Him and plini have toured together. He’s incredible and his last album who bit the moon is awesome.

This whole song is a masterpiece, but I can't get over how magical the acoustic intro is, as well as ending guitar solo. There's something so perfect about the way they're both composed. Like every note was thoughtfully placed, one by one.

I love listening to plini. Been listening to him for a few years and he gave one of the best concerts I’ve been to when he came into town a year or two ago. I recommend you check out a band called Chon if you haven’t heard of them. They’re more prog metal with a strong beach feel. They’re fantastic musicians. The guitarists and the drummer are amazing
Chon is actually Math Rock and yeah they fo have that beach feel to them lol. Being that they're from California
I love Chon, but I think the drummer overplays everything. The parts where he just grooves are great, but few and far between.

had the pleasure of seeing Plini live a few years back. a musical experience i'll never forget. it was Plini and Tesseract in the same night!
I love this so much. I'd heard of Plini but didn't know his music until Rick was doing a live Insta recently and I tuned in just as a follower asked him to play "Electric Sunrise." After Rick played a few bars I went "wait, what???!!!" realizing I definitely needed to check out the original. In the couple of weeks since, I've been devouring Plini's amazing music while at the same time getting very comfortable with the flow of 13/8 -- a time signature this old pop/funk drummer really didn't have much use for. Plini's music is gorgeous and a totally original voice, and his comrades have mind-blowing talent that watching live performances confirms in about three bars. Rick is a really cool sophisticated superskilled guy and shows us the strong connection between generations of humans on planet earth who burn for complex and brilliant music. I saw old mate Plini open for Tesseract in Sydney a few years ago. I had already heard his EP around at the time and was stunned, but seeing him live is other worldly.
