I would like to start by saying once again ,thank you for taking time to make these videos for us. I have found a lot of these throws and deflections to be very practical and effective. As for your attitude, you're only human brother. I myself say judge not least ye be judged. I am looking forward to the new vids . Keep em coming. My fellow martial arts buddies and I have actually been able to integrate this stuff into our training and as I've said before even been able to get my girlfriend active in the martial arts . Anyways sorry for the rambling and thanks again .
Hi Sly!!!! i´m from Spain next year i´m going to exam for 1 DAN AIKIDO, sorry for my english, i love the way you practise Aikido, your style is awesome!!! I follow you since the begining thankyou for yours teachins hepls me a lot. Keep on fighting Rogue Warrior!!! You are the best Sly Sensei!!
Very practical aikido, seagal sensei is the reason i started aikido, but i started with the traditional style, but just by watch seagal documentary of the Path Beyond Through i was even more impressed with the praticality of his aikido. I am a true believer in praticality.
Sly Sensei great to see that your teaching of Aikido reflects the true meaning of the term martial arts (martial creative). I remember Chiba Sensei once stating it's easy to hurt someone, it's much harder not too. It's good to see how you control aggression without inflicting injury on you're opponent. Also that you're humble enough to point out that failure is the key success as each mistake teaches us something right?? Cheers thanks for invoking the positives of your Aikido and as O-Sensei said never think of yourself as an all knowing perfected master, train with friends, students and progress together. Peace-Out.
excellent video, worth the wait! beat down randori are the best. makes one stay in the game, never give up! Thanks for making and posting these videos.
It's really annoying to see comments that devalue Aikido. People who make these statements forget this one fact. Most people (in general) can - not -fight. Period.THAT is the main difference man. Just look at the plethora of phone videos of people fighting on buses, in parking lots, bars and what have you, usually over something stupid. Windmill swinging, slapping, full-nelsons, grabs, etc...They are not trained in any way they are plain reckless. A trained person regardless of their discipline has a far better chance of surviving a real assault, even though in class it's simulated. I mean this about what you are saying. If everyone just beat the crap out of each other in class everyday, who would you be able to train with? Randori trains you to stay calm and keep moving. So as you advance in ablilty (it's done at speed)and it is more realistic than you may think. It's easy for you to sit at a computer and think well I would just do this, or that. Really? Go join a class, then you can talk. People who train together are usually friends who are not going to hurt each other just to appease a nay-sayer on youtube.
Great to see. Totally agree with your point at the end. You will get beat. No martial art makes you invincible. But that is why Aikido is the best for 'self defence' which means - not fighting and the hel out of the way.
THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED no I am in the east coast and have not seen anyone that I have felt comfortable with training. Observed some and like your style the best
I wish people would understand the difference between training and demonstration vs street combat. I mean, your kata 3 doesn't do jack in the streets either. It is a basis for understanding, first, how the movements effect you, then understanding how they impact your opponent. As for "compliant" students, 95% of that "compliance" is for self preservation. Many of these technique can destroy joint and connective tissues. If you like the brute strength arts, cool. Doesn't mean Aikido principals do not work. In most cases, you are not going up against a big, strong 100% resistant opponent. If you are they're a jackass bully and you are not very smart. In that case, you apply different principals to survive and evade. Not every conflict in real life is a UFC battle nor should it be. People who really know how to battle like that should not be looking for lesser looking opponents to attack in the street. It's not a competition. It's a way of thought, a way of training and a way of defense if/when needed.
If you've never done aikido before and you watch a randori, it can/does look like the uke's are barely being touched and just throwing themselves. Having done aikido myself (Tomiki), sometimes you're uke's, the good one's especially, can and will perform ukemi with very little input from yourself. And during public demonstrations of randori this can happen a lot. It's called compliance. It looks good but has no practical application as you're not being made to make the technique work. The beat down that Lenny is talking about removes the compliant uke's, which forces you to perform the techniques properly.
Mr. Lenny sly, wouldn't ALL or ANY aikdo technique work if your timing is right? That split 10th of a second in timing when the attacker has committed a strike or grab, you counter so the attacker CAN'T close ANY grip " accually grab you" making it easier for YOU to do whatever defense you do? That kind of split second timeing would work right? In simpler words......match thier timing so you can counter
Daddy Long D - I would like you to tell us what experience you truly have in the arts to make an informed reply to what you're looking at in these videos. Too many of you keyboard commandos have never really been in a position to study the arts long enough to know what is happening. Just sitting at home watching some MMA on TV and listening to some videos without training. Most real serious Martial Artist don't lower themselves to doing MMA in the ring. It's not a real environment in the first place. Most of the real stuff can't be done in the ring. Someone would be dead quickly. But you obviously have never been tested! MARTIAL ARTS IS A SYSTEMATICAL WAY TO STOP VIOLENCE. How much of a system do you see out of the guys in the ring since they really haven't been training that long. almost ZERO!! Real fighting has no ref, no padded gloves, no rules. I would advise you visit Lenny Sly and give it a try. The rest will speak for itself I'm quite sure.
Spoken like another person who is a keyboard commando. Again I ask your experience in the arts. Because if you were a true person who has been tested, (not in a ring) we wouldn't be having this conversation. If you have time to criticize others, then maybe you should put that time to better use and go learn what it is to do aikido. You can't learn the good stuff by looking just at videos. Then saying this art is better than another. Let's see what you got.
Your view Btw on the Arts is very limited. The rabbit hole goes much deeper than a punch and kick. Your inexperience is showing. Better pull your dress down. I won't be wasting my time with this anymore. I didn't say go try and beat up Lenny. That would be fool hardy. But a few classes I'm sure would answer most of your questions. Which is what I said in the first place. Put your money where your mouth is.
Empty your cup and the answers will reveal themselves. I'm not providing more information for you to try and analyze. I've spent enough time. I've been practicing for 49 years in many styles. 36 in Aikido. Come talk to me if you want. Again. Your experience is a limited response because you're looking for someone to point you on the path to enlightenment. Which is why you keep posting to my comments.
What, against you?! Ha! Provide me your resume and I might indulge you. Otherwise ,like everyone is saying, you're just another wannabe keyboard master.
In Randori it is essential for Nage to move much much more than this. To be a moving target. Imagine a quarterback who stood there like that. This is the problem of training in a way that looks for the clinch, looks for pressure testing, freedom and flexibility are lost. Of course this is not even randori. They are waiting topolitesly for their turn. Google Aikido randori. Almost everything you see will be better than this. And it's the opposite of what Seagal sensei teaches. He moves and moves. ruclips.net/video/cBtJLT6oSR8/видео.html You just can't do randori with your arms if there are three Ukes and they are really trying to get you. This Nage should have moved more. ruclips.net/video/qtrKeVx3xYg/видео.html
Tremendous! Having a heart for your Uke, that is what separates Aikido and what separates you from the rest!
Sensei Sly, love it. keep up the great work. Regards, from Houston Texas.

How do you feel about Yubi Tori in Randori? Maybe to manipulate one of the attacker as a shield or to throw an attacker at other attackers.
