honestly, i suspected he has a crush on jester since episode 4. she told him he should wash himself and while his response was that he's good, soon after he asked the barmaid about the location of the city's bathhouse.

It was so sad to see Caleb's reaction to realizing Jester and Fjord are a thing now.

Here’s the thing... I don’t think I’ve ever shipped any couple in fiction (I’ve loved couples portrayed in fiction, but not shipped two people who were not in a couple). This is the first ship I’ve had. And I want it so much!

I still think assuming everyone at the table is comfortable with it having Caleb play out the unrequited affection towards his own character progression could be super interesting period maybe even something that could lead him down a negative path while it might not be something that would make the character happy it might make for a better story

Fjord Kissed Jester

It was clearly one sided from the start, Jester has always had a crush on fjord from episode 1, and Laura stated before the campaign even started that she was gonna woo her husband in D&D... So...
@@steinistein8611 Yep... it's almost like Liam is a fucking creep that doesn't know how to read a room, even with a year or two to observe said room. Weird.
With Jester being done with Traveler Con and Beau "pursuing" Yasha, and it's gonna come down to what happens with Caleb, Fjord, and Jester by the end of the campaign, should they survive.
Caleb still has Trent Ikithon to deal with, and there some hints that he may have to confront him even if he doesn't pursue vengeance, because Astrid may be on the same path that he was originally on, and his feelings for her might have him end up facing the Trent. There's also Caleb's "pet project".
Fjord is still learning to be the Paladin of a new deity, but there's been signs that Uk'utoa is still pissed at him what with the previous skirmish on the seas that almost killed him. And he has his goal of travelling the world as long as possible and helping the down-trodden, whether that's with the Mighty Nein or as a nomad of The Wild Mother. If Uk'utoa is still held off, Fjord is going to be certain of his feelings of where his path heads next.
I think that in the end it's gonna come down to Jester and what she wants. She's still discovering herself and on the journey of becoming the woman she's meant to be. Her entire identity has been finding her father and trying to reunite her family, and find a sense of belonging which has mainly been with The Mighty Nein now that the Traveler cult has been all but dispersed. She still has more to learn about what kind of person she is and if she's going to continue to cling to keeping the Nein together or finally find herself as the layers of her identity continue to tear away.

I, too, would revel in seeing Travis slap the creepiness out of Liam in real time.
I love Laura but it irritates me that she has Jester zero in on Fjord. She literally stated she is doing so because Travis said he didn't want to do romance in the game. While it's her choice to make it breaks my heart as a Widojest shipper.
i’m saying! i feel like she and caleb are interesting characters-at first i thought they were foils, but they have a lot in common and complement each other in cool ways. i’m not watching critrole for the romances, but i will be genuinely very disappointed if jester and fjord just got together because imo it seems like jester likes the idea of being in love with fjord more than anything.
@@lukesguywalker Unfourtunately it seems like that's going to be the case. It's less about Jester and more Laura doing it on purpose. I'm not really up in arms though, it's just a grievance.
Yeah, I agree. Both Fjord/Jester and Beau/Yasha suffer from this. They are driven by the players and not the characters. Beau's confession to Nott felt real because Beau's feelings developed naturally and sorta snuck up on her. Same with Caleb.
Fjord's journey is more of a spiritual awakening kind; he has more moments with Caduceus than with Jester by a large margin. And not even romantic moments, but scenes in general.
It is a shame Laura's mind is so set on romancing her husband and not Fjord.
@@MannyNamiro I know! I love the way Cad saw the turmoil within Fjord and taught him that there was another way, it was very well done. I feel like Beau and Yasha is handled a lot better than with Jester and Fjord mostly because they took their time, literally waiting for Beau to smash several guests and for Yasha to finish grieving her wife. Oh well. Part of me just wants Caleb to be loved by someone, as a damaged nerd myself.
Hmmmm I disagree with a couple of things....
With fjord's character arc and his journey of self discovery and growing as a person it all makes sense!
One episode on rumblecusp where they had the party, he talked with (I think it was) beau about Jester. He basically said that he didn't feel ready for something serious but he had always had a thing for her. He just didn't act on it because he felt like he wasn't good enough for her and too many lose ends from his past would keep coming up.
And Beau said that there was something about Yasha to her from the very beginning.
But she didn't act on it because of Yashas dead wife.
Marisha clarified Beau's feelings for jester on a talks episode. She said that it was a mixture of Jester being a very charming person and Beau having a real best friend for the first time in her life (and a female one at that). I remember when I first had a best friend of the gender I am also attracted to and there was a lot of confusion on my part about how much of my affection is just friendly or maybe there's something more to it. So sounds plausible to me.
*And I just feel like adding, Travis loves to play the long, very slow burn and I think he does it very well! Fjord's never really talked about his feelings towards anything with the others. He keeps most of his inner life to himself, he's a very introverted character.
Beau and Caduceus are the only ones he frequently goes into deep conversations with.

Too similar to the Liam's ship from the last campaign. It's cute and all but we've seen Mr.Broodypants latch on to the cute bubbly girl and things didn't end well.

I don't think comparing Vax to Caleb is fair. Vax brooded, Caleb is just a broken, stunted man. He's a lot more like Percy in my opinion.
While the comparison was even noticed by both Liam and Marisha, I believe Samuel Stensgaard is correct in his statement. Vax's brooding came from outside circumstances and Caleb's come from his own actions.
Yet another example of Liam being the lowkey creepy dude that gets booted from damn near any table not pulling in $10mil+ annually.

There's literally no reason for him to even send his character down that route. His response to this question, as well as the in-character actions that facilitated it, were a colossal fucking cringe fest from start to finish and Liam should be embarrassed at having ever said any of it.
But that's not creepy. Unrequited love happens in real life too. And just like it isn't creepy to have a crush on someone in real life it's not creepy in a ttrpg. I mean Liam literally said: Caleb is hopelessly in love with Jester, meaning he would never tell her.
Where is that creepy?
@@93paddl Liam has complete and total control over any and all of Caleb's emotions, given that Caleb isn't a real person. There was simply no reason for any of those sorts of feelings to exist for that character in the first place, other than that Liam decided they should.
He decided this knowing full well what Laura had planned for Jester and Fjord, then went on camera and announced it to the world.
How that doesn't come off as fucking weird to you is beyond me. 🤷♂

But I digress. No I don't find it weird. Because Caleb fell in love after some encounters with Jester that could bei very well read as romantic. *Cough* the waltz *cough* Liam also said he wasn't certain if he even wanted to play a romance with Caleb. So I believe that you can fall into a situation like that with a character
