    I’m actually put off from a lot of triathlons because the temps require a wetsuit…getting into a wetsuit is exactly the boundary of complexity I’m not willing to cross. Board shorts and bike jersey swim triathlons for me 😊

    Hi, wish I saw you in Kona Heather.
    I’m so proud of my swim in Kona, I had exactly the same time in Kona as in Kalmar this year.
    Wetsuit in Kalmar but the worst conditions in Kalmar history. It was tough choppy and crowded. So I actually put my goal in Kona for the same time. My coach said it was tough goal, so I ad one more, but I succeeded.
    I swim my best swim ever in Kona.
    I didn’t use one swimskin but I took my daughter’s competition suit for swimming over the Tri suit. It worked perfectly.
    So if you are a woman it’s a possibility.
    Thank you- always nice to watch GTN videos.
    //Marie-Louise

    A “non-wetsuit swim,” ie “a swim.”

    Almost every tri I've been to here in FL is non-wet suit. I actually prefer not having to deal with the wet suit. Never tried a swim skin though.

    The wetsuit purchase is one that I have put off for years. It is interesting to know what some of the big benifits are.

      It makes you super buoyant so you'll be far faster in a wetty because you're sitting higher in the water.

    Can I swim in bib shorts so I continue to a bike directly?

      You're better off using a trisuit as they have a thinner chamois that is designed to dry out quicker than normal bib shorts.

      I wear Tri shorts when I race. The bike shorts do hold a lot more water. I don’t wear a shirt because what’s more aero than your naked skin. Tri suits are cool but the shorts are simple and in my mind less is more.

      I did the Moreton Bay Sprint here in qld two weeks ago. The organisers had let people wear a wetsuits for all events this season in the Bay. It was about 20 degrees Celsius with a 30-40kph wind. Very cold when you’re just in togs. I found it helped to jump in the water just before the start so it didn’t give a shock.
      I prefer to just swim in my speedo or, at most, tri shorts. Never felt comfortable swimming with too many clothes - I feel constrained and that freaks me out. I certainly see the advantages of a wetsuit though.
