I believe that it was designed as a GT - Gran Tourissimo - European style. Cross country forays through the Pyrenees, Alps, hotel hopping through France, the Autostrade and Autobahn. All in supreme comfort and stye. Great gas milage and large trunk for the luggage.. yes... down to the Rivera now.
Beautiful video.. When I looked, there were sweaty palms and shaking hands. It was so mesmerizing and there was a smile on my face. I hope that I will ride an elegant SM at least once in my life. I'm going to cry with happiness, honestly.
Thank you so much for your nice comment! I’m really glad that this short video gives you some joy. It’s getting winter time here soon, salt on the streets, and the SM will have to rest and wait for spring to come… Maybe there’s opportunity to drive it within he next days 🙏
Wow! ....the speed once it got going was something else!! Brit here - I wish our motorways were this uncrowded! Also there's no speed limit in Germany...so you could go all out at 100mph (160kph??) with no problem. But try this in the UK, and you'd have blue lights flashing in your rear view mirror before too long!
@@robtyman4281 Sadly, that’s the case almost identically on most Autobahns in Germany… lots of limited zones ☹️ But 100 to 110 still is an easy traveling speed on some roads. On some parts of the Autobahn at certain (empty) times like Sunday morning you can go up to 250 mph, as some crazy Bugatti videos show… 😳
@@2512MaTHias And now, figure this out: this car is more than 50 (!) years old and still by modern standards it would be an understatement to just call this a contemporary interior, not to mention the build quality that looks exceptional. I can see some design cues shared with the GS - a car I personally used to drive (Robert Opron after all) - I can see a few bits here and there shared too, of course the SM is a class on its own, I can only feel sorry for a derelict SM I once saw on the edge of the road and I my sorrow deepens now cause then at the time I wasn't aware of the fortune to see one in the flesh without realising the kind of car the SM is and the importance of it. That gearbox is about as fine a shift as you will ever find.. so satisfying that you anticipate the next shift eagerly; just don't try to heel and toe !! Ha!
😳 I think John Kruff once got the FIRST SM ever delivered to public (but may be wrong?), nevertheless, I think his SM is still around anywhere. Fiat Dino with some other famous italian V6 engine should also be a really nice drivable car 👍
ha!, the engine sounds like a 3-cylinder most of the time... No problem, I like the sound of triplets. But seriously, the SM may be the very first SUV coupé. It has good ground clearance which can be raised to excellent ground clearance. It is sporty yet supremely comfortable. By the way, the silhouette of today's Citroen C5X reminds me of the SM. Long nose, short tail, good ground clearance, long wheelbase. Of course, while the SM is a work of art, the C5X is just another semi-stupid company-car compromise, but it's nice to see a wee bit of heritage in a modern Cit.
Yes. The Maserati doesn’t have to show off… and the Multivan driver can tell stories lifelong to his children and grandchildren, that he once ran down a real Maserati on the Autobahn… 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, indeed. The relaxed powerful Maserati engine capable of high speed with the fabulous hydropneumatic suspension, the fierce break and the incomparable variable DIRAVI steering with this elegant design adds up to an absolutely unique composition of a car. 😊
the engine seems to be stucked for being stoped for a lot of time since new ,their main problem , as it happens with most of the ferraris available in second hand, my favorite car that never found one for sale till the 80´s
Jai senti un fou dans la direction au redémarrage! Beim Wiederanfahren in der Kurve habe ich eine Unschärfe in der Richtung gespürt. Vorderachsproblem (Kugelgelenke oder Spurstangen). I felt a blur in the direction when restarting in the bend. front axle problem (ball joints or tie rods). Avec le rappel asservi de direction il faut faire glisser le volant dans ses mains, jamais tourner les bras!!! With the servo steering reminder you have to slide the steering wheel in your hands, never turn your arms!!!

Nö, nicht wirklich. Fasst sich tausendmal angenehmer an als diese schwitzige schwammige glitschige schwarzgraue Plastik-Wurst. Habe ich auch, und auch noch Leder. Dies hier ist die angenehmste Variante.

What is that black bulp in the centre of the steering wheel?
The original security cushion. Damping foam, leather, slightly reshaped. Look at other steering wheels for comparison.
Irritating that this Volkswagen van is driving faster than the SM!
So what? It’s still just a Volkswagen… speed isn’t all, and he most likely never will experience the feeling driving a SM! 😜
