I love this new airbox. What airfilter are you using? Do you have drawings, dimensions for it? Willing to duplicate it for another SM? I think this is how it should have been done, if they could do it for the Merak why not the SM?
@@CitEnthusiast the engine is in fact a european Merak SS engine. It wasn’t running so well with the original SM airbox, needing some more air. I had a quite rotten Merak airbox but didn’t like its asymmetrical shape so much… as I found an original Maserati Indy airbox online I bought it not worrying and telling about the price to my wife too much… 😉 the Indy airbox was cut short by one cylinder row, welded, and bottom and top lid of the Merak airbox added. The two straight admission pipes were replaced by some S-shaped exhaust tips… painted in black wrinkled color to look as ‚OEM Maserati‘ as possible. The air filter is a regular Merak part. Look for pictures of an Indy engine bay. To find another Indy airbox isn’t so easy… sorry

Like the steering wheel, but it's not oval so hmm. But love the rest of the steering wheel treatment, I assume that was custom made? Sounds great but the gear shift if clunkier than mine. Is this the injected engine? Sounds quieter than mine and I suspect it's the induction noise of my carbs that is the difference.
@@CitEnthusiast Have a look at the other videos. The steering wheel is an original SM piece. Foam was very bad and mostly gone so I replaced it with some different materials… It is for sure oval and has the slight ‘thumb groove’ on the front side as the original foam shape. Completely sanded by hand, no machine work. The engine is a 3.0 carb one, the airbox is different.
@@2512MaTHias I just looked and can see that the wheel is oval, so very good! Is there a video showing how you modified the wheel? My wheel was reconditioned from the French SM Club in 2019, but it's showing a worn spot (where hands do not rest so very odd).
@@CitEnthusiast I‘m sorry there’s no video about the steering wheel build. It was done almost 20 years ago. It took me this time to get my car apart to pieces and together again… it was stripped to the bare metal core. I covered the single spoke with stainless steel from an old escalator door. A coachbuilder who does ash car frames rebuilt the wooden oval from cherry wood. I cut, welded and reshaped the original center cover and then got it covered in leather. The emblem is the original one.

@@xm222 thank you, it was a great day to drive DS. But the last time in 2024… so we have to wait for spring 2025 when the salt on the roads is gone ☹️

These were hughe yes, Citroën made them bigger than the 504 Break from Peugeot which was very big! For your information these were 4.92 meters long !

@@2512MaTHias Habe für 4 Jahre alles eine Nummer kleiner in meiner Sammlung gehabt, einen CX2400ie Pallas. Schönes Auto, hat mich aber dann doch nicht so abgeholt. Bin letztlich doch mehr englandlastig.
What strikes me is how modern the interior looks. This car was introduced in 1970, but looking at the interior, it could easly be a car from the 90s, even later.

Thank you for this video. I never had the SM, i had the Pallas, and i am sorry i sold it. Many times i drove it at 160kph in Namibia. The faster you went the better the ride.

A futuristic classic. Remember how I was drooling each time I saw an SM when I was much younger. Not that there were any on the road, but a Citroen dealer had two.
@@HeadPack Similar memories… when I was 16 I saw a white SM on the street in Paris. I think I took more photos of the Citroën than of the Eiffel tower… At that time I thought once I‘ll be adult I want to have a DS. And after this also a SM. It came otherwise round…

@@Seventh7Art It was definitely the fastest front wheel driven car of its time. That was the development goal of Citroën. They achieved it 1970 in a most unique, elegant and desirable way…

Wow! ....the speed once it got going was something else!! Brit here - I wish our motorways were this uncrowded! Also there's no speed limit in Germany...so you could go all out at 100mph (160kph??) with no problem. But try this in the UK, and you'd have blue lights flashing in your rear view mirror before too long!
@@robtyman4281 Sadly, that’s the case almost identically on most Autobahns in Germany… lots of limited zones ☹️ But 100 to 110 still is an easy traveling speed on some roads. On some parts of the Autobahn at certain (empty) times like Sunday morning you can go up to 250 mph, as some crazy Bugatti videos show… 😳

@@nefas11 A Porsche 911 has six cylinders. A Jaguar XJ 220 has six cylinders. Both as the Citroen SM. The all don’t miss two more cylinders and yet are fantastic perfect cars, each in its own way. None of the needs two more cylinders. The whole package makes the perfection.
@@2512MaTHias its just an opinion. A 911 does not ache for a couple more cylinders, the opposing boxer style cylinders complement the style, weight and CX of the car. The Maserati V6 in the SM, lacks the power, smoothness and prestige such a work of art deserves. It idles like a 1990 turbo diesel.
@@nefas11 If your SM idles like a Diesel, something‘s wrong adjusted. Correctly adjusted carbs or injection and ignition let the engine run quite smoothly. Better get your SM‘s engine checked by a really dedicated professional SM workshop.

Be carefull If nor Changed the sodium filled valves can break under full load, install Manley Custom Made stainless steel forged one piece valves
Engine is fully redone. EVERY piece inside is new. Including full material valves. Thanks for the advice.
