I always liked this song. Warren's riff, the melodies, Nick's keyboard, and of course the voice of Mr. Le Bon. This song always reminded me of the Beatles. That's just my opinion though.
To this day I don't understand how this beautiful song wasn't a big hit for them. It was actually one of their lowest charting singles, which is just baffling...
It was a bad time for them. JT had just quit to go into rehab, Capitol Records all but threw them out the door after "Medazzaland," and their head just wasn't in it anymore.
I don't think the radio edit did it many favors, as its one of those songs that needs to be in its entirety to be fully appreciated. But the lack of promotion didn't help matters either. I think I saw this video on VH1 a grand total of two times, before it was shelved for good.
@@cubdukat They also had been around for about 20 years at that point. Many felt they were done in 1990 but they got a massive second wind with The Wedding Album, but then their next 2 albums were panned and even I, an admirer of their music since 1981, felt at the time that they should hang it up after John Taylor's departure. When Pop Trash came out I think people had had enough of Duran Duran at that point. It was a brilliant move for them to go away for a few years and then come back with the original lineup. I don't think they had much choice if they wanted to keep the band going. Now they've got a sweet gig for a bunch of 60 year-olds! I bet Andy Taylor wishes he'd been a bit easier to work with now . . .
I agree. I think it would've been a hit if it had been released ten years earlier, around the time Tears for Fears did Sowing the Seeds of Love and Primal Scream did Screamadelica
Thank you warren for one of the most beautiful duran songs of all time. it is right up there with your previous tracks ordinary world and come undone. The fans of Duran Duran miss you!!
Great song. Deserved to be a bigger hit. The video is very "Yellow Submarine" looking. This was the first music video made entirely with Macromedia Flash.
Duran of this time (late 90's) bring tenderness to me . They were almost finished, but then came back again so cool. So different but always pure class!
I was totally blown away the first time I heard this tune. Later I bought the Pop Thrash album, but the rest of the tunes weren't that great. Anyway, at the time I was more into indy music and my girlfriend hated Duran Duran. Once she threw away my only DD cassette through the car window. Gladly she broke up with me later on, and, lucky me, some time after I found a new girlfriend. She was pregnant of our daughter when we saw both DD in concert for the first time and are still happily together. A shitty story, but life has these things.
Back in the late 90s... when I did flash animation, this video was a big deal because it was all done in Flash by Fullerene Productions. The big trend was taking video out posterizing it to the flat vector style. I love this song... Funny how simple the animations are now looking back.
When the "Easy Everything" Internet cafe was in Glasgow, I used to sit on there for hours and kept playing this Duran classic!. Loved it and it's a vid I haven't watched in a while. Love the animation and it's annoying that it's one of the best tracks off "Pop Trash" but little played. Travesty!.
Every time I experience an unrequited love, I listen to this song over and over while writing poems / short stories about them. (When heartbreak gets you to be more productive instead!) The lyrics are simply moving.
Most of Duran Duran songs from about 1987 approximately onwards have been very underrated alot of songs should have been hits, A matter of feeling, Antarctica and many more......Love Duran Duran can't wait for the release of the new album.
Hola!!.muy buen tema de Duran Duran...este tema lo escucho de los 16 años... siempre siento la misma emoción, inspiración...me lleva a un mundo de ficción y fantasía!!
" the hardest thing is to let go ... but is not defeat when you set somebody free .." awesome amazing never get tired of this , touch my heart , make me feel weak and relax at the same time , love it for ever warren the best

Yeah I bought this album on the basis of this video, pop trash is my favourite duran duran album :) such a diverse collection of songs! Love this video :D
I bought this album just because it was a comeback... and this song stuck out... and eventually turned out to be the truth of my life at the time. God has an interesting way of communicating to us...
I obsessed over this video when it came out. I was looking for love where it wasn't and oh I hate to say it but it was one of the gentle pushes the universe gave me to move on. Melancholy and brill'yunt. Thanks for posting
Sometimes its hard to understand why i gave 100% to her. Now she likes someone else, not me.. And i still love her and miss her. Life is hard. Thnx for this good lyrical Song!
Some critics and even DD themselves talk about the late 90s as the low point of DD, but Medazzland was one of their best albums since 81-84 with songs like out of my mind, electric barberella, midnight sun, so long suicide. Pop trash was interesting with a few stand out tracks Someone else not me, playing with uranium, mars meets venus and Last day on earth. So this period of DD is not the lull that people make it out to be, go check it out. Medazzaland was much better than Astronaut.
When I first back into DD in August and started listening to all their music, I wasn't sure about those 2 albums since we were down to just Simon and Nick. But I really do like the songs on both albums. Got to thank Warren for keeping the band going through that time till we got Roger and John back
@@alicekasey8516 Warren was in the band. Dont talk like if he wasn't there since the album Notorious and replaced a full-of-shit Andy Taylor. I get really triggered when people minimize the importance of Warren.
@@Alagboriel ...full-of-shit? He had his problems, wanted to make other things. My impression is A.T. has always been a little "put-down" by the others... Nick expecially. But, well, to each his/her own... (you know, at the time of Notorious, W. was not officially "in the band" - and does not play on all tracks... at the time his contribution was -more or less- zero) peace ;)
My brother bought the CD for me on my 22nd birthday of 2000. I believe or Christmas. I still have it. As a matter of fact I owned the whole Duran Duran CD collection. From the first self titled debut all way to paper gods, and Power Station featuring Robert Palmer, John and Andi Taylor, don't know the drummer's name. I like to sign this kareoke version of Someone else not me. But not the Spanish Version. Also I wanted to sign the Kareoke version of Maybe the sun doesn't shine forever.
As someone else said this sounds very Beatle-esque..ironic really cos JT wasn't in the band anymore yet, of all the original members he was apparently the most influenced by the Beatles as a young music fan.

Poptrash Movie and Lady Xanax are great ballads
Funny. My dad, The Beatles fan, liked Poptrash and ask my cassette to play it in the car😊 Of course I gave it to him.
Probably one of Duran Durans finest songs should have been number one Defo a underrated song

2020 and still listening to this tune. Perfect tune, love it.
Definitely so much more than the 'pretty boys of pop' that they have been considered for so long. As serious band that makes serious music.
