I became a DD fan around 1985 . . . and received lots of crap from others, being a rock guitar player I was trashed for my opinion. Then 1993 came with DD's Wedding Album - I was redeemed when most everyone who gave me shit in the past liked this album - even if they did so without much noise. I laughed at them saying "told you so!" Peace fellow DD Fans!
Este tema siempre me fascinó por la colaboración de Milton Nascimento cantando en portugués. Esta obra de arte quedó plasmada con las cataratas de Iguazú como un gran lienzo como fondo. Se incluye en The Wedding album en 1992.
It's so wonderful to see people raising their lighters during concert on 3:50 which illuminate the crowd brilliantly. Unlike today which annoying phones were raised.
When this song was released on the WEDDING ALBUM it sounded so different to everything they had done by that time. One of the diamonds that made up a brilliant collection of songs. I never got used to "Drowning Man" though. I just wonder why they didn't use the video version that was released on EXTRAORDINARY WORLD (VHS!) in 1994. It had sound bits that matched the images, footsteps, typewriter and the crowd singing for example. Made it even better. It's time for a comprehensive video collection, don't you think? Can you believe that GREATEST is already 26 years old?!

Wow is it safe to say even if this song was just released today, it would probably shoot to number one on the charts. They are so timeless with their music! Always have been. Best band in the world as far as I am concerned.
I think this is a hiddden in plain sight gem of The Wedding Album. When I saw them performing it in Tampa years ago the tears flowed as they are now. Interestingly the strings group had clear instruments. Every Duran album is its own feel ,And always a time marker in my life. Like a guide through the wilderness.
My god, this video and song can really capture the space and time of what i call "the Bill Clinton days" in Latin America; there was so much hope in the air and it really seemed like summers were longer. This video even captures the sky of those days...those years were absolutely magical; in Argentina Menem was inflating the economy so much that there was money for everything, in Chile there was a whole country to rebuild after Pinochet and for that the US were investing heavily on them (it was a mirage in the end after the asian crisis made it all collapse) Colombia had their own Narco economical bonanza with Samper creating jobs with cocaine money and the likes of Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico were literally at their peak as countries. It is actually a shame that all that hope was a lie they were all empty promises BUT hell cos we didnt know, it was beautiful. The Wedding Album came out those 90s days when we all felt in Latin America like kids seeing that "mum and dad are paying the bills so lets enjoy"... only to realise that mum and dad were just paying with credit cards all along.

This song broke the paradigms in my music taste when I first heard it. I was 10 years old and "about to _only_ rock" (influenced by my brother) when I suddenly heard Portuguese in a Duran Duran song. I hated "Ordinary World," "Save a Prayer," "Rio" and I loved "Wild Boys," "Come Undone" and "Too Much Information" when it was released later. Milton is an angel, calm, cool and collected... "Breath After Breath" (and PSB's "Se a Vida é") introduced me to Brazilian music as something out of the shallow context of "MPB." The irony of it all is that I'm from Brazil. "Breath After Breath" continues to be forgotten here. The production of this song makes all the difference, just like on "Fora de Ordem" by Caetano Veloso (released almost at the same time): I don't care about Veloso, I care about and always enjoyed Arto Lindsay's somber, dense production like I enjoy Duran Duran's 1993 album production as an adult, now. "Ordinary World" is fantastic.

Many people especially musicians who at first regarded dd as a teenybop band finally gave them recognition because of john's innovative bass playing which is the heart and core of every songs of dd especially their early musics. @Daniel Martinez DD wouldn't have made it if it wasnt for john and his determination, his talent, and his brilliant mind. As a proof after john left dd, the band was finished. They lost most of their fans and being let go by the record company cause they couldnt make any hits and selling records. People devalue john's credibility and contribution just because he's so god damn beautiful so they wont admit that he's also the brain in dd and an amazing talented musician because that would be multiple threats for their ego
