Yes you can use custard powder. I would use the same amount of custard powder as pudding mix. But I would still recommend using corn flour as it will help thicken it. If you don't have cornflour you can replace it with plain flour just by doubling the amount.

I used daily milk 2x250 gm, 3 tbshp sugar and added 2 tbsp Cadbury chocolate powder in chocolate mixture. Also I replaced vanilla pudding with vanilla custard, It turned out so delicious that everyone loved it! Going to make it again!
