Classic Duzer, even though you are in a race, you still slow down to be friends with everyone you meet along the way! What makes you not a racer is what we love about you.
Great humanity! Thanks for sharing, Ryan! Watched your tracker while you were riding! Very impressive that you even took the time to take video and share your experience with us!!!!
Great video, thanks! If I may add one small point for older riders that want to go easy and tour the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR), not the TD Race, the Adventure Cycling route does not go up and over Koko Claims mine area. You can stay on the main Great Divide route and skip Koko claims for an easier, safer, scenic route. ☮
Your natural talent is to ride far, document, encourage, and share. You could be really fast if you quit doing those things and trained hard... but this is way better. :) You're fast enough already anyway. Even though you dropped out, this is some of the best footage of the race I've ever seen. I say do it again next year and remember to not race pace it. You'll probably go faster and 5x more likely to finish anyway.
Wow! Just day two and that just looked extremely tough. Anyone that completes even part of that race is a badass in my opinion 👍 My personal bike is a Salsa Cutthroat, designed to do that route and I don’t think I would subject it, or myself to it 😳 Thanks Ryan, looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey, and even though it ended before you would have liked, I think it was a hell of an accomplishment.
Don’t know how you coped with the cold and wet🥶Kudos for keeping positive! This puts my PCR experience into context. I gave up too soon and live with regrets. Look forward to your next one
We really are enjoying watching you and looking for any clues of what is coming for your butt. We think you should start a biking blog where you go to a variety of the different bike races and interview participants like you are doing on this one. Where are they from, how did they get into it, what is the biggest challenge, etc. tell us about these different events, how to qualify, how they train, what is it like to travel internationally to participate, etc. could even cover races in Europe. Your interview skills are outstanding and you show such an interest in people!
Best Koko footage I’ve seen! Glad I skipped it-because I wasn’t racing. I hooked up with some beautiful single track by taking another road to the right some distance south of Koko. Rode sweet flowy singletrack all the way into town. Watching you guys suffering makes me extra happy with my choice, haha! …though your scenery was beautiful!
@@duzer yeah, I wondered that myself. I figured it was the challenge of it. I wonder how close to Koko the single track actually was. In my memory it was only a half mile or less down the road. I found it totally by accident. Had no idea it was there. I was very happy!
Ryan, your efforts to show your creative filming and interviews = building a community. We all look forward to your future adventures. You could create a company called "Ryan's Adventures" offering customized guided adventures to small groups around the world. A group of 5-6 friends new to bike packing hire you to guide them and teach them what you have learned from 20+ years of adventures anywhere in the world. Your future is very bright my friend. We have never met but your inspiration from running, biking, and the passion to just get out their makes me feel like we're friends in a wired, strange kind of way. The world is sort of strange so a great fit. Thanks again for your content, truly , truly appreciated!!🎉
What a Roller Coaster of a Day.. literally 🙂.. Sun 🌞 rain 🌧️ snow ❄️ being cold.. you always find a way to be positive.. Happy Birthday Wes.. Snickers was an energy bar before energy bars was around.. Glad you are making these videos 🎥🚴♂️😎
There was a short hike a bike section like that in New Mexico with trail just littered with rocks like that, maybe a mile long very steep. But man! 6 miles of that? We skipped coco claims this year, and woof! I can see why. But I plan to return to the ride next year and I will definitely do this section.
Just want to give all my respect. I was watching your dot on the race I was thinking that you had also to take shots for this amazing series. You are great. Best regards from Gran Canaria
And I complain about pushing my bike up the gullies on my local rail trail! Koko claims has a raw beauty about it, but with a few percent more notches than this little duck could handle!😂 Really enjoying this series, thank you.
I can't believe you met a Scouser on the trail Ryan😂That looked like hell on a bike up Koko Claims, that was insane! The descent looked a little scary also😂I will stick to my roads thank you very much😉Good on you for braving that weather Ryan, it would have been so easy to take a hotal in those conditions!
So sorry things didn't work out for completion of the Tour Divide; certainly enjoying videos (as always); ***Hopefully you'll take another "crack" @ it in future, maybe @ more relaxed pace.*** Best wishes!!
Love your videos you are inspiring me, I'm 62 and stared riding again on 6/8/24 and have accumulated 533.7 as of today my goal is to make a Century ride. In one day. Last Friday I rode 41.5.
Must feel good to have some videos in the can ready for release when you are off on other adventures. A good one for sure. The shots of your top tube keeps making me think you are hauling a bunch of Reese’s peanut butter cups because of the color of the bags. Looking forward to the next vid.
I’m a little confused about this event. I did a little bit of research and the best thing I can come up with is that the Tour Divide is a race on the exact route of the GDMBR. No changes to the route are allowed other than mandatory safety detours by the “committee”. How close am I ?
What an adventure. Nothing like a good adventure to expand your boundaries. Is that a in-line filter on your camelback? Have never seen that before. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
Wow! What a crazy event! Respect!! Questions: how do you keep/get your shoes & feet dry throughout the journey? And How do you stock up on water/ how much do you carry? Same for food? Greetings from Germany! Frank
I kept my feet dry with waterproof socks, and I filled up my bottles in creeks. Usually carry about a liter because I can fill up constantly. Enough food for a day, plenty of stores to buy food
Hello Ryan, I am wondering what utility mount you are using on the end of your aero bars? I see many people using them but I can't find them anywhere online! Thanks for inspiring me to get out there, I'll be riding my Priority Apollo on the minneiowisco route next month!
I'm actually thinking of getting a compact shaving machine for next years bikepacking adventures. I'll get a sticker that says "Duzer made me buy this" on it if anyone asks why the extra weight
Kind of off subject, Im abandoning my beard and wonder what sort of razor you use? Ive had mixed luck long ago with them, they must have gotten better? Thanks!
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
My arms are still sore from pushing my bike up that mountain 😂
God bless and keep you Ryan
great job!! how was ragbry?!
@@milleeflahive7538 It was amazing!

That's what bikepacking is made of 😊

Glad you enjoyed it! I met so many cool people out there
Drinking my morning coffee, watching you push your bike up 6-miles of bad road and thinking how wonderful are the folks who developed this route.
You are a one off Ryan , you make riding long distance look fun which inspires many people off the sofa and on a saddle
Thanks Mr. Van Duzer, I'm really enjoying this re-cap of your Tour Divide. You the man!
Glad you enjoy it!

The recap is good. Keep em coming!
Stay tuned

Good of you to make it to RAGBRAI. It's just about biking and recharging your soul.
The bike race seems amazing so far. No signs of you not enjoying yourself. I felt there was chemistry between you and Courtney.
I was all good until I wasn’t ;)
Amazing that you guys keep so high spirits while pushing your bikes up that hill. That mountain has a strong "No, thank you" vibe to it.
