Prof. Suny is definitely one of those talented people capable enough to talk rational as well as nonsensical points simultaneously in a single interview. That's a skill! 💪 Kudos

Excellent lecture. Since the start of my high school study of modern history it has been important to have clarity on the following terms - nation, nation-state and empire. In this lecture, following 55 years in academia, political scientist and historian, Prof Ronald Suny does this more clearly than any others that I have read or heard. Not to have clarity on those words results in the mush humans wade through in contemporary commentary about the past and the present.
Using the context of the Soviet experiment, Suny is able to also touch on the evolution of political ideals about internationalism faced by the galvanising reality of nationalism, nationalist myth making, and other practices in the use and abuse of the terms nation, nation-state and empire.
