    The reality of two Monarchs in Britain is something I’ve mused about before but never really put into words until David laid it out so eloquently here today.
    It is one of those consequences of history that our system evolved this way and a testament to Republicans that you’d need to do more than stripe titles from the House of Windsor to stop this country being a monarchy.

    • @DS9TREK
      @DS9TREK 3 года назад

I hope that the new understandings about how flawed our actions for the last 3 years have been take hold. Too few people were given FAR too much power and they all broke their covenant to act in the best interest of the society. May enough people realize how we were all oppressed and used so that it never happens again.

      I find it odd that my country is an ex-Communist, one but there´s more freedom of speech in our universities nowadays than there is in Britain. It´s normal here to listen with respect to lectures of people you don´t agree with; as indeed it used to be, and in many places still probably is, in Britain.

    It's rare that a lecture on political history can make me laugh heartily, but this did. Especially Starkey's comparison of Queen Carrie (of Downing St.) to Anne Boleyn, and his recommendation for a similarly well deserved method of despatch. Bloody marvellous. Encore Sir, encore!

    V. interesting comment in passing on the effects of William I on the North of England's history, I'd be interested in a lecture on that by Starkers, if it isn't straying too far from his hundred being a late Medievalist. ("King Boris" not for much longer I suspect).
