  • War, plague, the Great Fire, and the beheading of Kings Charles I. This is the tumultuous legacy of The Stuart Kings. Four Kings from the house of Stuart sat on the English throne from 1603 to 1688. It was a time of great religious struggle and political instability. The Gunpowder Plot nearly wiped out King James I. The Thirty Years' War broke out on the continent. A civil war erupted that led to the public beheading of King Charles I and the birth of a commonwealth headed by Oliver Cromwell. London was ravaged by the Plague and The Great Fire of London.

I really appreciate the cinematography for the scene shot 30ish mins in is. The narrator is standing in a black and white room, wearing black and white. The choice to lighten up half of and keep the other half in a shadow is great. This was done in a very subtle manner, as well.
Idk. I just really appreciate the artistic touch with that shot

I think you are actually praising the architects design of the room and window placement as opposed to a cinematography choice other than having her stand in the middle of the room and wear black and white. But I agree it is a neat room and neat shot.

      @eric_864 Год назад

@Adam Reese I've never been to that room, so I can't confirm your claim. Typically, it's the job of the cinematographer to design the lighting(or at least approve the lighting put together by the gaffer) so I figured it was their doing.

Having just recently learned that King James II and VII is my 10th great grandfather has left me nearly speechless. I wonder how my family could have ever lost track of this information. Then I think of my family coming from, on my fathers side Kentucky and on my mothers side Oklahoma, I begin to realize that life was hard for the people from those areas in past years. Living alone must have taken up most of their time, survival being particularly challenging for them.
Life for these people (from the 1600's) must have been terribly difficult, even as royalty. I imagine there must be a lot of descendants around today from this family and I wonder where they are. I guess that is something to pursue at some point. I do know that King Charles sons William and Harry are related to me as Lady Diana also had the same 10th great grandfather as I do. What a strange world we live in.

Great series about the Stewart Monarchs .
To add , when William of Orange and Mary II ascended the throne , in their Coronation Oath , they swore to recognize the sovereignty of Parliament . As Parliamentarians were elected , this was the beginning of Democracy in the modern world .
Later in 1689 the English Bill of Rights was passed , which was based on Enlightenment ideas .
1689 English Bill of Rights is part of Britain's Constitution .
However , in 1689 only land owners could vote and to be a Parliamentarian a person had to have considerable wealth .
The struggle for universal male suffrage continued during the horrific working conditions of the industrial revolution by Britain's 19th Century Labour Class .

Hold no indoctrinated Degree in History. As a person who loves True History not His story. Was not that long. Into my freshman year. Learned the actual Truth. As to WHY? The American Civil War started over. Reading a encyclopedia. Dating to 1905. Taxation and Industry. Not Slavery. Started the Civil War. Slavery wasn't a front burner issue. Yes it was on the stove. But even the Republicans. Didn't know exactly how to deal with it.
That's not taught to this day. One has to go OUTSIDE of. The official storyline of His~story.
Most Americans have absolutely no clue about. The Prussia and New York Harbor Agreement
Prussian Czars sent their entire Pacific Fleets & 40% of their Baltic fleets. To the Atlantic. From New York Harbor down to Savannah Georgia. Prussia kept the English from invading the USA.
They was out there. For a little over 2 years. Never included in ANY history documentaries. Know of no College history grad. Ever heard of it either. It isn't taught what so ever. From elementary school to College.
Hitler never invaded France. Poland Yes. But. Not most of Western Europe. Germany actually Bought their Debts.
One of Hitler's expeditions. Which one? Is highly debatable. Point is. One of them , Hit pay dirt. Germany became Extremely Wealthy overnight.
      Why Hitlers blitz is taught?
Could go on and on about. How pretty much everything I was taught in school. Is/was Historically wrong.

I don’t understand why it’s said that James II is the last Stuart monarch. You can object to counting Mary, since she ruled under her usurper husband. But Anne was definitely a Stuart, and arguably the only successful one (if by far the least glamorous). It’s only her dying childless that ended the dynasty. If her son had survived to inherit, it’s not clear the dynasty would automatically change to the name of her dullard husband-Maria Theresa’s heirs remained Habsburgs, all the Tsarinas’ heirs remained Romanovs; Elizabeth II’s heir is reigning as a Windsor.

One more way Anne was much a better monarch-and feminist!-than the Tudors: Anne neither had to stay unmarried (like Elizabeth I) nor name her husband King (“Bloody” Mary I) to survive as a ruling queen. She simply sidelined her consort with no compunction about emasculation, which was the model the Russian tsarinas, Maria Theresa, Victoria, and QE2 all followed.

113 .....offer the man who is drowning a helping hand ,yes you may get pulled down too, but if you trained to swim and rescue then you can save the drowning man! FAILING to do so, then not saving the one you won't save the many. And when they see you fail to save the one then you will not be saved and they will turn on you too! THAT IS THE LESSON !!

if you wish power to change a nation without having the peoples trust , you must ensure the loyalty of that might not by what you value ....but what they value...
