Shawn, I think it depends on the species of mouse/rat. Here in AZ we have the nocturnal "packrat" (a type of woodrat) that frequent your cars and trucks and *love* to eat your wires and build nests inside. A well tested method to keep them out is a bright light under the hood.

I wonder if flashing lights would work. It would be best if they flashed randomly but you could start with normal flashing lights. If the results are promising I could cobble up a random flasher for you. Of course it would surely annoy humans but it might be ok for unoccupied ateas.

Make sure the bed isn't against the wall, wrap each lower bed post or leg with tape...sticky side out.

  • @ionymous6733

Is there a difference between established mice eating in a location and moving in? I mean, given two side by side barns to move in to, maybe they wouldn't choose the one with soap, dryer sheets, carolina reapers, mothballs, wolf urine, annoying frequency LED rope light, or whatever because the other barn is more tolerable. At a minimum maybe you could test in your already infested barn but with a side by side choice of repellent food and repellent free food.

  • @georgeunderwood911
    @georgeunderwood911 Год назад

The question of light deterrence is still open for me since a barn or shed where they have previously infested seems different from an RV or vehicle that is transient and may not have the smell or familiarity. I am interested if permanently mounted under-chassis, and under hood lights would deter entrance and/or wire chewing of parked RVs and tow or towed vehicles. RV parks out west are recommending leaving the hood of your tow or towed vehicle up to deter rodents. If that works, why doesn't any light deter? Also, it looked in the video like they were specifically trying to get at bait inside the toy RVs. Is that true or this is just typical behavior? Is that different behavior than a mouse would exhibit when looking for a nesting place, like under the hood of a vehicle or closed spaces in RVs? Would under-vehicle and under hood lights deter them from climbing in to nest vs foraging for baited food? I dont know how a test would be done without multiple cameras, including IR or low light to capture and maybe calculate total time spent under a vehicle. And repeat on multiple days/nights with under-lights on and off successively. That also brings up another question: do rodents only invade during dark, or also during the day? Thanks for testing and producing these videos anyway!

I was thinking of putting BRIGHT motion sensitive LED lights behind the floorboards that sit at the bottom of our kitchen counter which is where the mouse leaves (and I suppose) enters the kitchen. I think the natural desire to eat and ready food supply will trump any of their hesitation to overcome the obstacle. How about trying to put the food a long distance away and then put the mothballs, peppermint, irish spring, etc in front of their access holes. If there was a maze with a blocked path and an open path where they had to choose to go this might provide a different result. Look forward to the results.

    How about trying UV lights?
I wonder if they can see IR lights? or they just "hear them fire off" from those game cameras you use.
Oh you're close to a 1 million subscribers! keep up the good work!
How about naming the different types of traps in a video? snap/live/choking/etc...

This one is a stretch. Of course the mice aren't going to care about rope lights. I've never heard this, but just the thought that rope lights or lights of any type would repel rodents is inane.

Hey Shawn nice video 👍🏽 but I have a question on why you didn’t try to strobe them ? I think you missed a good opportunity to test one of the best ideas out there to date. In the future could you try a Strobe light💡.. thanks for the video and keep up the good work

The only thing surprising about the video is that the rodents didn't start chewing on the rope lights.

What a channel. I’m a subscriber and faithful viewer and these myth busting videos never fail to make me laugh. It’s like an episode of Tom and Jerry!

Works about as good as a car alarm. Useful for annoying those around you.

I'd like to see this with the light rope replaced by an electric fence wire, with insulators. D-con works well too. You have to get one of the old e-fence chargers though, the current ones just zap every 3-5 seconds, it's useless against mice and meth-heads.

Hi Shawn my dad has been having trouble with a rat in his garage and he had just rewired the garage and the rat is chewing on the wiring. Got any ideas?

I ve seen them use black light leds, or uv type led lights, to repell bugs and rodents

Hey--it was the cruddy ineffective rope lights that deserved a little flip at the end; not Harvey RV or Winnie W.

I've had rodents do $60,000 worth of damage to my vehicles while I was away for work. 9 months I was gone. I ended up just buying a new truck in the meantime. I'm going to buy a large carport and surround it with 3 foot wide metal roof flashing to hopefully prevent the rodents from getting to my new truck.
