Yeah, that's my big gripe about this movie. The Maginot Line actually worked as the Germans were forced to go around it into the Low Countries and outwitted the British and French armies by going through the Ardennes forest and outflanked them. I guess the writers didn't want people to know that victory over the Germans had actually been possible back in 1940 and that American troops would have to sacrifice themselves to destroy the Nazis because of military blunders made by the British and French on the battlefield which would make the American people angry at the British and French and less willing to be allied with them after the war.
Rommel's "spook" division (7th Panzer) cut through the Maginot line extension. The Germans didn't distinguish between the extension and the Maginot line itself. The Extension was part that was in theory, covered by the Belgium defenses.
"After the withdrawal of the BEF, Germany launched a second operation, Fall Rot (Case Red), which was commenced on 5 June 1940. While the depleted French forces put up stiff initial resistance, German air superiority and armoured mobility overwhelmed the remaining French forces. German armour outflanked the Maginot Line and pushed deep into France with German forces arriving in an undefended Paris on 14 June."
BadNinja16 So WW2 started in 1940 when Germans attacked Maginot line? Your history teacher have to be so proud now... There is nothing about 1939 because of French and British betrayal... later USA joined that club so there is no word here about the real begining of the WW2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_betrayal
BadNinja16 Yes, this is exactly the definition of propaganda, distorting facts to fits one agenda. You don't even have to be outright lying, the most efficient propaganda will simply expose facts in a way that only their point of view can be seen as valid.
Exactly. I guess the writers didn't want to make the British and French look bad by telling the truth about how they were outsmarted by the Germans on the battlefield which would've negatively affected U.S relations with them and hindered the combined war effort.
Nah the biggest showdown of air power vs naval power is the pacific war. Japan were highly confident in victory through solid defense and brute strength, while the Americans chose to attack strategic weaknesses.
Walt Disney's victory through air power withAlexander De Seversky- Russian World War I fighter ace, and the founder of the Republic aircraft company which built the P-47, F-84, F-105 and A-10.
Indeed. However, to his defense, this is pretty inaccurate (it is indeed British propaganda). Though not even that allows to defend Hitler's name and actions.
Go to justice4germans and just listen to what was said instead of the perfectly cropped hollywood dubbed drama overkill and try to see things from both angles and perspectives . Regardless of my Opa , Father and all of his brothers who fought on the Ost front and where he lost 3 of his 5 brothers in battle and also both sisters in the air genocide of Dresden i remain open minded aware and all ends rationale of propaganda from all ends ! Thankyou
My father and two grandfathers both served and told me of these horrors. Still, none of them were turned away for medical reasons by their armed forces. I am not only upset that they will not accept me, I feel I have shamed my ancestors for not being a soldier.
Keep in mind, numbers mean little in certain conditions. The battle was waged in German territory so if a German pilot had to bail he can be picked up and sent back into circulation, a British pilot on the other hand would be captured indefinitely. A similar thing happened during the air raids on London, though in that case it was to the British advantage. Not to mention, at the time the German air-force had better planes and better trained men, it took a few years for Britain to catch up because they were still feeling the economic effects of WW1, while Germany was thriving economically. A good tactician takes everything into consideration, the time, weather, location, troop numbers, equipment and vehicle numbers, resupply speed, moral etc. Numbers is only a very small part of the component. Location, supplies and moral are some of the most important aspects in battle.
The animation is so well-drawn and eye-catching; it's a pity the information is flawed. I would appreciate unbiased documentaries on war history done in a cinematic animated style like this. It would be excellent for student history classes.
Braindead Lincoln, Hurricanes and Spitfires were at least in the same league as ME 109s and quite likely superior. The early Hurricanes were slightly slower and later equaled the speed of the ME 109s and the Spitfire was marginally faster. However the ME 109 had a much larger turning radius than either so was regularly outturned in battle.
You lucky bastards! Because of a storm, you don't speak Spanish. Because of a quickly built navy, you don't speak French. (x2) Because of the USA, you don't speak German. All nations are unconquerable until they are conquered. What about Japan? He was like the Asian England. It had never lost any territory in his islands, protected by the sea. It had almost never lost a war, and even the great Mongol Empire failed to take it. But Japan was no longer unconquerable after 1945.
los unicos grandes de la guerra fueron los alemanes y los rusos !!!! si los rusos hubiesen perdido la batalla de stalingrado..... ahora todos nosotros estariamos hablando en aleman
okay, back then the Russian air force equaled all the world's air forces put together... but they were serveal generation obsolete, but still out numbered the shit out of the luftwaffe. so tell me, how did come the luftwaffe destroyed the russian air form, but not the RAF, if this truly was a game of numbers? (hint, The RAF was smaller than the luftwaffe
Swanbow, What is known now was not known then. There was a genuine fear in the British government that Hitler could and would invade in 1940. Various diaries, journals and papers show this. The fact it was impossible was NOT known at the time.
It is far easier to fool people than to try to convince them they were fooled - Mark Twain Propaganda "is a form of communication that is aimed towards influencing the attitude of the community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes..."
I'm not. I am pointing out that Soviets were not simply Nazi victims, as the original comment seems to suggest. On a side note, if this truly was propaganda made after the war, then historically speaking the Soviets were quickly becoming an enemy of Western Europe and the US. They wouldn't have been inclined to have their citizens be sympathetic to them, so it makes sense that they would have left it out.
Stalingrad was one of 5 turning points in the war. It is arguable though that the British unintentionally saved the Soviets, by mounting a defence of Greece and Crete, and defeating the Italians it forced Germany to delay the start of Barbarossa, to secure the southern flank, that meant the Germans failed to reach their objectives before winter set in. If South had captured the oil fields and centre had taken the airfields in range of the Urals the soviets would likely have lost.
I disagree there. Britain was a mach for Germany. No it couldn't fight the Japanese at the same time but if you just consider Germany and Britain you'll see Britain was ontop. It had planned for a long war, whereas Germany was relying on a short war. The course of the was determined at Dunkirk as after that it was clear the war was going to be a long one. Britain in 1939 wasn't the second rate country it is today remember, in fact it had the worlds only fully mechanised army in 1939.
You're half right. There was fighting in the initial days of the Battle of France along the Maginot line as a decoy to distract France's attention while the bulk of German forces went through the low countries as you say. After the capture of France the German forces swung round and attacked the Maginot line where they did encounter significant resistance before the French military collapsed into retreat.
I am proud to be their descendant. There are the remains of Saxon castles and villages all through England, within 600-700 years from the birth of Christ. And the majority were christians, almost all their artwork had used Christian symbols. They were the majority of the Royal Airforce and Royal Navy Personel mentioned in this cartoon.Walt Disney's " Victory through Airpower".My grandfather worked in a General Motors Defense Plant when this was made. And he was a former WW1 Infantry Soldier in France.
The Saxons originated in Germany about the time of the Vikings, but they were more Civilized.Saxons used stone knives or swords,or lived in fortified towns to defend against attack from rival tribes.Germany was the last european country created from a loose collection of Duchies, and small kingdoms known as "Saxony".A german state retains the name to this day.Queen Victoria of England was born from that family.Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and King George the 5th were her Nephews in 1914.
I'm a descendant of the Saxons. We defeated the legions of Rome in 800 AD and ruled England for the next 400 years, until defeated at the Battle of Hastings in 1512 By Frenchmen from Normandy. The first 5 minutes of the movie:"Gladiator" with Russel Crowe shows this Beatifully. We were defended by Robin Hood during the reign of King Richard the Lionhearted from persecution by the Normans. The majority of Americans are their Descendants, especially if from Britain.
Eh, Ireland really couldn't be anything else except neutral, not after the Easter Rising, the Irish Civil War, the Black-and-Tans. That said, it was dumb of Britain to let the Treaty Ports Agreement lapse. As for Irish neutrality, the joke back then in Ireland was "Who are we neutral against?" Lots of Irish fought in the British armies, when Belfast was bombed Dublin fire brigades helped fight fires, Allied personnel interned in Ireland didn't spend much time in internment, not like 3rd Reich
Yes they did bomb and attack airfields, they did it all the time early in the war, the difference was that the RAF, RCAF, RAAF, protected their planes better then the Poles, French, or Soviets did. Radar and an integrated coastal monitoring network was also critical, this allowed the allies to get their planes in the air before the Luftwaffe had a chance to attack the airfields while they were still on the ground.
some of it is right, but Hitler went through Belgium because the French line ended there, and the RAF didn't stop the Germans from killing all the soldiers trapped in Dunkirk, also they left out the high causalities for the Luftwaffe's Fallschirmjägers on Crete, the British didn't leave Norway because of the Luftwaffe. England and France Simply left Norway for Germany and they used those ships and the troops to defend France
It was a typo: "glad to see you didn't OBJECT to me calling America a barbarian state." This was similar to a comment by Oscar Wilde. What country are you from, because Canada, Germany, Vietnam, and most of Africa also agree that France started sucking. Now make me argue this: France was the 2nd most powerful NATO nation during the Cold Warn (France may have sucked, but Britain REALLY sucked), and is the 2nd largest economy in Europe today, and America is starting to fall down.
Wikipedia re: URSS - URSS is an alternative spelling of USSR. In other languages it stands for Union des républiques socialistes soviétiques (French), Unión de Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas (Spanish), Unione delle Repubbliche Socialiste Sovietiche (Italian), among others. Within the Soviet Union itself "URSS" was the preferred Latin script acronym for the country until the World War II, when it was replaced with "USSR".
Ha ha ha man, civilization is not a simulator is not realistic. But i played hours of Civ5 and the strategy showed is very similar to the real life. I watch this video and say shit! Ok think aboaut japan make a aliance to germany for atack USA. I see this kind of strategy in civilization V. Look a world map an you can see the geography is good for USA recive two atacks for two sides, west and east one for germany and one for japan. and the nuke was a solution japanese are very PRIDE!!
Greatest as in "biggest," then yes. The USSR was still building, and America came out of the depression, so France had the largest army. I salute the Wehrmacht officers, not the French ones because the French were too overconfident. France was great, no doubt about it, but French high command is so arrogant. Germans used France's arrogance to their advantage. When I hear of war stories in Europe, I root for America and Germany because the German people were good people, only the SS were bad.
I wish that they used someone like Ashoka or Harshavardhana, or some other war-like Indian leader for India. Gandhi made a huge difference, but he actually represents OPPOSITE what Indian culture was like. Westerners tend to match India with the Middle East, when India's culture is closer to that of China. Military was and still is an important part of Indian culture, and I would like it exercised in game. However, Pop. growth is a brilliant SA.
funny thing about the Maginot line... One of my history teachers, to demonstrate its "supreme effectiveness" built his own barricading the doorway of his room, with obvious route around it to his room. All foolish to approach this mass of french defense ( crafted of the best plastic bins and cardboard) received a star, stating they where a victim of the defenses. without saying, very few received a star....
The French army was the best and most equiped in the world and many French were very brave. Blitzkreig is a complete myth it was pure tactical genius that won France the best forces were cut off in Belgium and Holland and France was defenceless. The German tanks were weak they only won because the French did not heed the warnings through the Ardennes and the Germans faced the weakest and most untrained units once they cut through the Ardennes.
Actually in all of the French wisdom Hitler didn't have to break through the Maginot line, he just bypassed a neglected patch of forest based on the French high commands predictions that no one would ever come though there... In the confusion the many French divisions were cut off and the French high command blamed the whole thing on traitors and sacked many of their officers, soon after the French surrendered... Greatest land army my ass!
Germany did tried to make atomic bomb before the USA did but some Norwegian commandos raided a heavy water plant in Norway and destroy heavy water machinery then sank a ferry in a lake with tankers full of heavy water aboard. This delayed heavy water production needed for a atomic bomb to work long enough for the allies to finish the war before Hitler could finish atomic bomb production. They did drop two atomic bombs on Japan not Germany!
Do you admit that, when germany would have taken over the world. We would have think about the ''alliance'' the same as we do about germany now? We would have called churcill a warmonger, and would have condemned their ideology. I am not saying we would have been better off. The only thing I am saying is that propaganda in the highest form we may have already been reached or maybe not. Maybe in a few decades from now many of us will say we didn't know
Yes,and the americans, they are the good guys, isn't it? I wonder what the native americans say about this statement?Or the correan?Maybe the veitamese?A little napalm here and there,so does the democracy comes.Or Iraq.Surely, they had plenty of chemical and biological weapons to use against the poor americans. Now i wonder where does the oil goes. Not for it's people i guess, they're still poor.Or should we look to Afghanistan. Now there is american democracy. Those bad talibans, isn't it?
yugoslavias king fled the country as he was under age, the communist party took control and the people surrendered when the nazis attacked. the croatians supported the nazis and the courch and became known as the ustaša. the other people didnt give in and so there were the partisans. as the communist party Tito led the risistance and freed up south and central yugoslavia. by the end the italians were driven off but then the nazis came to the north and then soon after the war was over.
And if you want to see endurance, look at the Baltic States up until 1990... There's a running gag among Latvians, that they are a nation of servants. I happen to agree with it to some extent... And i'm one of them. Most Latvians will just adapt and go along with any kind of bullshit, that we come against, and we will endure it for quite a while, until it's too much. And when that moment comes: All hell breaks loose...
First- the most effective propaganda contains truth even if it is slanted to one point of view. Much of what is shown in this cartoon is true. Second, Crete was essential to the Germans because it threatened the Suez Canal and the British supply lines through it from its empire. The key problem for the Allies is that initially they were fighting WWI all over again. Hitler was doing something different using tanks like cavalry and air power to overcome and neutralize static army positions.
Considering, had America not been around, the Soviets would have been a done deal, and split between the Japanese and German forces. It was the American entry into WWII that allowed Stalin to move his troops that where meant to check Japanese aggression. Also FDR's 'Arsenal for democracy' led to arms and munitions for both Britain and Russia... So ya, winning WWII was a lot easier with America on your side. Had the Soviets stayed part of the AXIS, the AXIS still would have lost
The problem is that Poland did not have a significant coastline, and what harbors it did have (aka Danzig) were ethnically German. Poland was hoping for France & Britain to invade Germany from the west. Even in troops could get into Poland, resupplying from the France would be difficult. Also, the Soviet invasion happened after the German, the Soviets only moved in when it was clear Poland would loose.
well here's something i know is right...when the vid said that "spitfires had 8 guns to the Germans' 1" that's false because A only squadron commanders in the RAF had 8 guns mounted on their planes. the rest of the squadron had 4-6 guns depending on kills. and the Germans' planes...that Stukas as depicted in the vid acually had 3 guns. 2 forward wing mounted guns, and one tail gunner.
This clip is pushing air power as the solution to all problems in war. Good propaganda. Errors??/ --The British were allowed to evacuate at Dunkirk. The theory is that Hitler could not believe he had gotten so far so fast, so he thought it was a trap. --The Maginot line was not smashed through. The Wermacht simply went around the line near Belgium (smart eh?) An all out assault on the Maginot line would of been suicidal. Air Power was greatly exagerated in this film.
What The Sovjet Union's strength was, was the manpower. They intentonally sent men, hardly armed at all, in, as cannon fodder. Big waves of men with the sole purpose of taking hits were sent both to enable more heavily armed squadrons to move in, and to deplete german ammo. This tactic worked after a while, when the German resourses were stretched thin, however, if the German invasion wasn't halted in the suburbs of Moscow, the Russian machine may never had even started rolling.
This video certainly makes the Germans out to be this brutal juggernaut of war, doesn't it? Still, it got several things wrong (on purpose I suspect)..... The Germans didn't bust through the Maginot Line, they went around it by invading the Low countries and going through the lightly guarded Ardennes forest...... While they took Norway, the film bit failed to mention how the Allies sank a large part of the German navy in the battle.
germans built only like 20000 aircraft a year, the amount of allieds (USSR,USA,British and anothers) was over 100 000, tanks of USSR were so fast-produced but they were so big amount that germans couldnt blow them all up, Normandy was the reason of loss of Germany, same as attacks to Norway,Finland,Italy were the reasons, USSR could have ended the war in europe like a year before in Europe if they would used the masses of their army but they took countries instead in USSR like Balkan,East Europe
1. French didn't fight alone at maginot line, British helped them, 2. Germans didnt only use aircraft to break the maginot line, they attacked the weakest spot of it and attacked backside of the allied troops which were fighting the german troops which attacked through Belgium, 3. the reason why the Dunkirk troops of allieds got evacuated was that the Panzer Division leader didnt follow orders of Hitler directly so hitler took the attack for the airforce, Luftwaffe and the RAF got between.
ehhh... 1939 french didnt have airforce or tanks mostly... their tanks were like WW1 stuff, germans had Panzer IIIs againts them... and the Maginot line was not militaric at all... they cutted the budget on building it and thats why it broked apart, germans strategically attacked through belgia and the french AND british land forces attacked them there, blindsiding the back of them, german "backraped" the forces and they had to retreat cause germans were too powerful
Also partly because Hitler was insane enough to give up and attack Russia instead. By the end of the Battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe actually had more fighters capable of striking all across England than the RAF had surviving fighters, by a good margin. There are a number of insane blunders Hitler made that cost Germany the war. Would they have won otherwise? Who knows; the war certainly would've been even nastier than it was.
Had it played out as was planned; the ROF would have been destroyed and operation sea lion was commenced, then Britain would've lost. The British navy would've been superior, but the German navy would still make a presence and have the support of the uncontested German Luftwaffe. As showed time and time again, the air-superiority makes a huge difference. Britain would surely fall. I just love these "what if" scenarios. Nothing is more interesting than the thought of world domination.
They were called: "The 3 big ones" for a reason. There was a time only USSR and USA was superpowers... But the TRUE superpower of the sea and partly air was britain. The british navy had alot to say for the landing of Normandy, sea operations at denmark and Norway and as for the airforce ONLY england were able to match air with air. Making air combat an great importance for the british to be at the allied on WW II... Other nations could only attack air with land deffence. Britain was nececary.
To be fair, Germany is not a little nation, and he wasn't the only nation to declare war. Remember territory is not the only thing that makes a nation a superpower, And Germany has quite a large population, quite a few natural recouses (though not oil, which was what doomed the Nazis too) And it built a massive army, and it still has a Collosal industry.... Overall, Germany is not a superpower, but it can easily turn into one (as seen duing Hitler's regime)
not only that, he didn't listen to any of his generals, and was a horrible general himself.. The battle of Kursk was opposed by most of his generals, but he ordered it anyways. Rommel wanted to make a tactical retreat from africa to salvage the situation, but he did not let him, instead dooming his african army to extinction, even with a great general like Rommel. He later refused to reenforce normandy (which was the reccomendation of Rommel too) He was surrounded by smart people- but was stupid
yes, my info was a little off, but yeah he never really planned it out or listened to his generals, he was a realy bad leader when it came to warfare, like at battle of the buldge, he attacked at one side at a time, which cost him to loose the battle, he thought he could capture russia by the end of summer so never have his men winter gear, and he did abunch of other stupid mistakes, but I can tell you already know all about that. and yeah, under esstimated, must of thought they just surrender
Hi there! Luckily, both old hawks never met each other at crosshairs (if they did, I wouldn´t be here). If they had lived to see games like IL-2 or Cliffs of Dover they sure would have taught me one thing or several. They were both good man, but as the French say: All it takes to ruin the reputation of the best monastery is just one lazy monk... Cheers and happy Easter Days! KGW
Yep, they did. During the evacuation, the RAF destroyed between 250 to 300 Luftwaffe feighters while losing about 180 to 200 of their own. The Luftwaffe tried to bomb the area but a lot of bombs did not explode due to the soft, sandy ground. And already the RAF had planes that were superior to Luftwaffe bomber. Btw: Dunkirk was the only time, the squadrons of my grandpa (one flying for the Luftwaffe, the other one for the RAF) clashed but the old hawks (luckily) never met there ;)
@DSDunlap72 They didn't wana rule europe or the world (lol) they just wanted the russia! Before they could do it, they need to unite there people, so get back all the stolen land and unite with Austria. Resources and factories. Chechslovakia. Road to russia-Poland. Also France and UK declared war on Germans. So they took Norway, so they can't be attacked from north and Netherlands, Belgium becasue it was in the way between them and France. Yogoslavia so they can help Italians in Greece.
(continued) Germany's major failing in World War Two was that they tried to fight it as a series of campaigns meant to knock out various opposing nations in relatively brief, violent campaigns. Beyond a vague idea of ruling Europe (and maybe the rest of the world), Germany never developed a grand strategy meant for prolonged, sustained warfare over many years with a concerted goal of bringing the war to an end by the complete annihilation of not only the enemy's ability, but also will, to fight.
Actually, the Dunkirk evacuation succeeded because Hitler let Goring have the honor of "destroying" the B.E.F. The Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and the people of the United Kingdom came and pulled more than 385,000 (mostly) British, French, Canadian, Dutch, and Belgian troops out. Also, the Luftwaffe, as the cartoon says, was not built for sustained aerial warfare, but to support ground troops. Germany's major failing in WWII was not on the tactical level. (more)
@demerit56 No, in 1939 the US was "neutral", with a bias for Britain, but there was a brown shirt movement in MYC and any city w/ a German or Italian population, and high profile Fascist admirerslike Henry Ford and Charles Lindberg. America was happy to get back to work and sell stuff to the combatants. In 1939 the American armed forces were a joke, a bad joke. No manpower, no training, and out of date equipment. The US became the arsenal of democracy, when it decided it had to take a role.
This film does contain inaccuracies. After the war, when the German archives were siezed and writers had leisure to do RESEARCH, the Fall of France became better understood. Even so, the breathtaking rapidity of the breakthrough at Sedan was possible only because the French artillery positions above the Meuse were destroyed by Stukas on Monday, May 13 1940 (see Manchester, "The Last Lion") and because the Luftwaffe prevented the RAF and l'Armee de l'Air from destroying the crossings.
This is grossly inaccurate. The Maginot Line was totally by-passed by the Nazi forces, because it only extended as far as the Ardennes Forest, and that is where the main thrust of their offensive was against French and British expeditionary forces. The Maginot Line fell only after Paris was occupied and the French were all but defeated. The Maginot Line was a relic of outmoded military tactics before it was even built, and they were foolish to rely upon it.
@jbancroft888 dont trust this video too blindly. this video assumes germany had many times more airplanes. britain had more planes in 1939, and its production remained higher throughout the war as it didnt have to worry so much about tank industry germany was successful mainly because it concentrated its forces, not because they had more airpower is important, although its not so much about how many planes they had, its about how they used them
@Hypatia1951 Yes, had the Belgians not become neutral in 1936 and worked with the French Army and if the old geezer in charge of Fort Eben Emael not pulled his AA gunners to tear down an administrative building and kept his guns working, the Germans would have had a fight. Air power is less effective on dug in troops. This film takes a lot of shortcuts to prove airpower had become important.
@Danny77uk this is a cartoon from the early 40's of course they didn't have the information we have today I believe british and german propaganda made it hard for researchers to tell fact from fiction also: they had only limited sources of information back then. no internet, no satellites, even the telephone lines over the atlantic were limited I guess with the given background, the work is quite well done
this is some gorgeous animation
Heiseberg was far from the A bomb. He wrote a book where he claimed that germans were very far...
"History is written by the victors." -Winston Churchill.
Victors?
Every human with Victor: *"Well, I'm starting blasting"*
"Only God can kill me" - hitler but not really
Except it really isn't.
By survivors and evidence
So... They never actually broke through the maginot line... They went around it...
greger2045 They Did the same in WW1 so I guess the Maginot Line was just like a mountain range.
There is SO MANY errors in this movie it's insane :)
It is propaganda, of course there are mistakes :p
Is so many?
Mighty Maginot line - Belgium is the way they mean
Are*
I was under the impression that the Germans simply bypassed the Maginot line through Belgium... not blasting straight through it...
Rommel's "spook" division (7th Panzer) cut through the Maginot line extension. The Germans didn't distinguish between the extension and the Maginot line itself. The Extension was part that was in theory, covered by the Belgium defenses.
***** No you've completely missed this, this was WWII.
"After the withdrawal of the BEF, Germany launched a second operation, Fall Rot (Case Red), which was commenced on 5 June 1940. While the depleted French forces put up stiff initial resistance, German air superiority and armoured mobility overwhelmed the remaining French forces. German armour outflanked the Maginot Line and pushed deep into France with German forces arriving in an undefended Paris on 14 June."
belguim was a distraction
Troops went through belgium and surprise attacked the maginot line to weaken it and then a full battalion started to invade france

I love how you can actually hear Horst Wessel Lied mixed in.
Yep
Were is Mickey Mouse?
Kellen Narke Mousewitz
This was made by Disney. The full film called "Victory through Air Power".
Some things are true
but the rest is lies, inaccuracies, cover-ups and unmentions all over
1:04 i love this style of nazi anthem for some reason....
Same.
I dont see the propaganda here.
Fail title
You must be a genius...
Wel I did invent the toilet paper
BadNinja16 So WW2 started in 1940 when Germans attacked Maginot line? Your history teacher have to be so proud now... There is nothing about 1939 because of French and British betrayal... later USA joined that club so there is no word here about the real begining of the WW2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_betrayal
Biały So that makes it a propaganda?
LOL! you're funny and stupid
BadNinja16 Yes, this is exactly the definition of propaganda, distorting facts to fits one agenda. You don't even have to be outright lying, the most efficient propaganda will simply expose facts in a way that only their point of view can be seen as valid.
These cartoons are actually much better than the crap we have today. I love war cartoons
Move between the gap unmolested. LOL. Times have changed.
This is from Disney's "Victory through Air Power"
Tbh this isn’t propaganda, the narrator also acknowledges the German victories without making dumb excuses.
"Betrayal is casual in Polish history."
Sadly so.
France with its great army, yea sure...
The Maginot line: the biggest fail in history

Hitler's war plan was called a "blitzkreig" or "lightningwar" if I remember correctly.
1:31
They didn't blow past the Magione line. They went around it.
Exactly. I guess the writers didn't want to make the British and French look bad by telling the truth about how they were outsmarted by the Germans on the battlefield which would've negatively affected U.S relations with them and hindered the combined war effort.
It's Walt Disney through United Artists. It's called "Victory through Air Power".
Is that a M3 lee at 1:44?
Actually yes
Nah the biggest showdown of air power vs naval power is the pacific war. Japan were highly confident in victory through solid defense and brute strength, while the Americans chose to attack strategic weaknesses.
Walt Disney's victory through air power withAlexander De Seversky- Russian World War I fighter ace, and the founder of the Republic aircraft company which built the P-47, F-84, F-105 and A-10.
Britain: France has the best general on Earth, no one can't defeat France without taking heavy casualties
Germany: hold my beer
I feel like this video ended quite abruptly.
I belive there is a second part
*****
Excellent! Thank you.
End should be like winston dancing naked with elizabeth and naked stalin with naked paralysied roosevelt 😂
Indeed. However, to his defense, this is pretty inaccurate (it is indeed British propaganda). Though not even that allows to defend Hitler's name and actions.
This is completely inaccurate, what are you talking about. Read a damn book
Thankyou

at 1:43 you see what appears to be M3 Lee's. an American tank...
Walt Disney actually funded this film himself because he felt so strongly that air power would be the key to success in this war.
It's 100% history not a propaganda
My father and two grandfathers both served and told me of these horrors. Still, none of them were turned away for medical reasons by their armed forces. I am not only upset that they will not accept me, I feel I have shamed my ancestors for not being a soldier.
1:10 I really loved how they added a dramatic version of Horst Wessel Lied here.
That's Bullshit 3:1? In Germans favour? Yeah maybe at the night when the attack started it was like 2000 British planes to like 1784 German planes.
It would be excellent for student history classes.

where is the rest... there must be more, right?
These cartoons are still awesome to this day
Braindead Lincoln,
Hurricanes and Spitfires were at least in the same league as ME 109s and quite likely superior.
Total FAIL. The Germans didn't pass the Maginot Line. They entered France through Belgium.
Terrifying, I still wish I was born to fight in World War 2 :D.
There is no propaganda in this.
Fack you!
Swanbow,
What is known now was not known then. There was a genuine fear in the British government that Hitler could and would invade in 1940. Various diaries, journals and papers show this. The fact it was impossible was NOT known at the time.
It is far easier to fool people than to try to convince them they were fooled - Mark Twain
Propaganda "is a form of communication that is aimed towards influencing the attitude of the community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes..."
Is it just me or in 1:43 the tanks look like daleks in profile?
Oh yeah they do
Wikipedia re: URSS -
URSS is an alternative spelling of USSR.
Errors??/
--The British were allowed to evacuate at Dunkirk.
@jbancroft888 dont trust this video too blindly.
this video assumes germany had many times more airplanes. britain had more planes in 1939, and its production remained higher throughout the war as it didnt have to worry so much about tank industry
germany was successful mainly because it concentrated its forces, not because they had more
airpower is important, although its not so much about how many planes they had, its about how they used them
@Hypatia1951 Yes, had the Belgians not become neutral in 1936 and worked with the French Army and if the old geezer in charge of Fort Eben Emael not pulled his AA gunners to tear down an administrative building and kept his guns working, the Germans would have had a fight. Air power is less effective on dug in troops. This film takes a lot of shortcuts to prove airpower had become important.
@Danny77uk this is a cartoon from the early 40's
of course they didn't have the information we have today
I believe british and german propaganda made it hard for researchers to tell fact from fiction
also: they had only limited sources of information back then. no internet, no satellites, even the telephone lines over the atlantic were limited
I guess with the given background, the work is quite well done
