The fact that all of us watched her foot caught in the trap and the first thing we all thought was "She's cuttin that foot off" is a testament to how well her obsession with revenge is written.
I love the slight supernatural in this show. Mizu means water and the number of times water is symbolized in this show is awesome. The blanket she played with as a kid had waves on it, the hot springs in the first episode. The sea in the second. And how many times she heals herself in this episode with the bucket of water. She is like water people find her unassuming but she has the power to carve canyons. Love this show.
jumping back to episode 2, the first sword she forged, Swordfather used water instead of oil for the yakiire quench hardening of the hot steel - both can be used, but water can cool and harden a longer the blade unevenly leading to heat warp and brittling
Swordfather knows this and quenches in water anyways, likely knowing that Chiaki was full of crap
A lot of people say that Mizu is overpowered because how can a person continue on after having a pike impaled through their foot without bleeding out or surviving an explosion on a nine-story building? I think, in a way (metaphorically speaking), Mizu is a physical manifestation of an onryo, an angry spirit that's driven by anger, rage, and revenge (as explained in episode 5). We get a glimpse into Mizu's past previous episodes; we understand her anger, her rage, and her desire for revenge, and despite her struggling, getting hurt, physically and mentally, she will still limp and claw her way to kill these white men. Revenge could really drive a person to the limit, making them do a lot of questionable things. Sure, realistically, probably not to this extent, but in Mizu's case, it's convincing enough that it compliments the story.
Honestly, this show, although it is somewhat grounded in reality, it has moments of disbelief that even I don't mind cause it doesn't really take me out, I've seen worse reality breaking shit in a grounded show. Mizu just has two things on her mind, adrenaline and rage, and both are bottomless.
Those people are dumb. Mizu is an action hero, she does crazy borderline superhuman stuff because it's interesting. It's like saying "damn john wick is too op." Like, she gets hurt a lot and comes close to death several times, let the girl be awesome jeez.
@CatCloud46 I have seen one reactor say, "How is Mizu doing this?" And although he has some good interest in the show, he was one of those people who kind of over analyzed when Mizu did some action shit that was not grounded in reality. Like, he needed a legit reason why. I knew from the beginning that this show was not that grounded.
I wouldn't say overpowered, but the writing here took me out of the moment sometimes. Carrying Taigen past the window, the inconsistencies of the drugs, and the small inconsistencies carry onto the next episode too. Like I can only suspend my disbelief so much, but I am willing to give leeway and not be too harsh considering how great almost everything else is in the show. Not only that, but I can sort of chalk her strength up specifically to having blacksmith strength, which is a different kind of strength compared to just raw power from like working out. People aren't wrong though for pointing out some of the oddities since their points where the writers can improve.
@@VincentLloydMI think it’s just a consequence of this episode following a deliberately and strikingly dramatic character study of episode 5; one could even argue that by the end of the last episode we feel the Onryō in her, but living it through this castle from ground floor to top exacts a tremendous toll despite all the magnificent feats fueled by her vengeance
The fight choreography for this show is absolutely insane man. S-tier series.
It’s a little disorienting, but I figured that was the show telling me to watch on a bigger screen

The director has a marvel storyboarding background and brought that sensibility to animation

i had it saved in my list on netflix for a while but never got around to watching it, but then i saw a tiktok edit of the noodle shop scene from episode 1, binged the whole show immediately after that
I watched it because some guy recommend the crew to react to it in the comments on this very channel. ^^

I wish I could say that Netflix is trying to foster word of mouth sleeper hits by not marketing their shows, but unfortunately these shows are given quotas of viewership numbers that they need to reach within their first month in order to be renewed for a season 2.

This show finally address something I’ve always seen as a cop out. Not being able to write a female character well, heard it all the time from so many anime and so many movies and shows.
In the words of a man wise beyond his years when we talked movies. ‘ you know who my favorite movie character is ? It’s Ridley from Alien. Ridley is awesome and you will never convince me otherwise. Ridley also just happens to be a women. ‘ And that is the problem, write the character, history, motives and world. Then if gender or orientation or identity play a role, don’t pander make it realistic.
I love the idea that Branagh is One Eyed Willying (from Goonies) his way through that castle for 20 years.

@@SeanTanktop I really Hope not. Binge is a way better model. We can sit and watch a whole series, meaning there can be slower episodes without It feeling like a let down because you had to wait a whole week for It, and will have to wait another one for the next. Weekly breaks the experience. And If you decide to wait for It to end to binge, you get a Lot of spoilers =\
