Those are mostly likely coyotes @12:30 but I'm not a zoologist and they were far away. VERY rare to see wolfs out in the open like that... Great Hike and great recording! Thanks!
Ive watched many thru hiking videos and you work is some of my favorite. Really enjoy your commentary and style of recording your hike. Only wished you had more from your pct and cdt thru hikes.
Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, when I hiked the PCT and CDT I didn't really have a plan to make videos so they are lacking in comparison. The Appalachian Trail video is the first one where I had a plan to make a video.
Well I finally got around to watching your 22 minute CDT through hike. To be condensed into such a short time frame it's still gives you a good idea of what you're in for, up against and the beauty and Majesty of what you're going to experience, which I hope to do someday. Thanks
2017 seemed to have been an incredible year for snowpack, but the desert was so beautiful with all that water. Thanks for sharing your journey, you guys have some big shoes to fill! I hope I can be in such good company when I do a CDT thru hike.
Great job on the CDT I really enjoy your videos. A large number of hikers making videos just film the trail. You take the time to show your campsite that is a big part of the journey. I am also enjoying the music. James from Canada.
Cheers Rick. Not too many Aussies make it to the CDT which is a shame cause it's such an awesome, if sometimes difficult trail. If you have any questions send me a message through my website. Cheers. bikehikesafari.com/
Cheers Brad, it will be a completion of the triple crown for me and a long odyssey that began on the AT in 2004. The Bibbulmun Track is a really sweet trail, I think, and the closest we have to the US long trails in design and culture. It's also easy and relaxing after all that high altitude stuff you're into.... 😀. I'd recommend.
Cool, not too many Aussie 'Triple Crowners' out there. The Bibbulman Track is on the radar when I return to Oz, along with several other trails. Good luck with the CDT
Thank you for this, I dream every day the day i step foot on this trail. Its a dream far away, I feel i am to inexperienced to be doing something as rugged as the CDT. I plan on thru hiking the Appalachian first next year.
You amazed me again! The intricate beautiful details and colors and your ability to capture so much with your camera. The stunning views... the wild life... Ick pooh the snakes and porcupine.... how daring you are to be so close and intimate with such dangerous predators... I will continue to follow your hiking quests... I have to find the next video to this one... keep safe... and loved the scene in your Reebok skivies in the water!!!! LOLOL I think you did that just to tantalize the ladies! Your friends were hilarious... the one ... cracked me up laughing every time he would fall deeply through the snow yet he was carrying snow shoes on his back... what a silly goose! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
Thank you. I love seeing and being a part of wildlife that are wild. Lucky there were no holes in the Reeboks when in the water!! That could have been embarrassing! I've been editing a few videos recently, so more coming up. But it is a lot of work, hopefully I'll get them finished before my next hike in New Zealand. Stay Tuned. www.bikehikesafari.com/
That was very interesting my brother did the Continental Divide Trail I think in 1990 I know he did the Appalachian Trail in 86 he told us stories about the trail but of course in 1990 he didn't have video of it so this was very enjoyable kind of got to see what my brother endured Through Your Eyes and by the way my brother is doing great he is 56 now lives in Gainesville Georgia and he also did the Pacific Crest Trail I don't know exactly when might have been 93 thanks
gosh.....where's the trail markers....how do you even know where you are !! ?? ...haha...you guys need snowshoes. They looked like coyotes.... I very much enjoyed your video....I have the idea that someday I'm going to at least do 'some' of the AT.....but I "KNOW"...I will never do the CDT ! But...I did very much enjoy watching your trek ! Thank you so much for sharing....you saved me from CDT envy ! Lol !
Great Video. After I made the decision to Hike the CDT in 2019, I ran into your blog. Which I read, almost in one sitting. AND I'll read it again this winter. I really like your writing style and perspective. I was thrilled today, when I ran across this video. Great job, mate. I can say that right? even though I'm from/ in Idaho. 80 mi from Yellowstone. I'm 18 years, your senior, but I'm giving it a run anyway. I may have questions as I learn more. where are you now? Thanks my friend! And as I tell my boy, don't be safe ( because I know he won't) but use your head. Cheers!! You're welcome here anytime!
Hey thanks for the lovely words. You will love the CDT, it is a hard but incredibly rewarding hike with a really supportive hiking community on the trail. I'm currently cycling in Colombia an dreaming of more hiking trips in the future. In fact, next week I'm hoping to be hiking in a place called Cocuy National Park, complete with 5000m peaks. I hope the weather is kind to me.
awesome job! i plan on starting my cdt hike here soon but ill be starting in in Colorado so ill have to find my way back around to the starting point in new mexico, maybe i will reach the end of north terminus ca then just start the pct but in the meantime i will look forward to your next adventure!
Good luck with your hike, it is truely amazing, although sometimes brutal. You could always hike New Mexico later in the year when the wet monsoon rains have finished and it is cooler.
Loved the video!!! You really had an awesome adventure!!! Thanks for sharing all your fun and trials. We e be walking the Appalachian trail in March 2018. See you on the trail.
Fantastic editing, I'm compelled to hike the CDT now. I did about 1400 miles on the AT in 2017 over the course of 6 months, and loved it, but I absolutely prefer the terrain I've seen in your video. Thanks for sharing. On an unrelated note, what is the song at 16:00, I've been googling the lyrics and shazamming it, and I haven't been able to find it on teh website you referred!
Thank you, the CDT is a special trail. The terrain can be difficult at times but the rewards are worth it. The song at 16:00 is called -- Waking Up To Another Day - by Sebastian Forslund. Take care and good luck on your hike.
Great video but not long enough. What months were you hiking ? I could have watched an hour of you guys struggling through the snow and trying to cross swollen rivers (glad you made it across them). Gorgeous scenery, too.
Thanks for the nice words, I agree, it could have been longer. It was not easy to record so much video which made for a lot of hard work. I was there from mid April to end of September. bikehikesafari.com/hiking-the-continental-divide-trail/
Thanks for the link. Trying to read all but I'm taking my time studying the pictures. Better than videos because of that. You are trying to get through the San Juans (I believe, border N.M. and Co.) now. Really enjoying reading about and seeing the trail. Great job. It took a lot of courage to hike that part with the deep snowpack. Just like the Sierra Nevada PCT 2017.
Thank you for sharing--your perseverance is amazing. They might rename this route the midcountry snow trail. Could you recommend a good 20 mile section of the trail to do as a short trip in New Mexico ? Does Australia have long trails designed like this?
Thank you for the kind words. There are some nice sections of trail around the Gila river area of New Mexico, lots of river crossings. Several long distance trails in Australia, the best is the Bibbulman Track. Next week I start hiking the Te Araroa trail in new Zealand
Congrats on the successful hike! I’m curious if you think hiking the CDT with a dog is at all a possibility. Seeing all those water crossings and deep snow make me think it’s probably not a good idea.
I know you use a gopro for filming and pictures, other people are posting updates along there hikes, do you do that as well, do you wait until its all over? I would like do film my adventures as well but dont have any editing skills and I'm also not use to making youtube channel or what not any help would be great ! Thanks again
Christopher Seba I find that most RUclips hiking channels that are editing and posting their thru hikes as they hike are all rather boring. That’s just me. Most give up after a while because it’s a lot of work and takes time to upload. So a lot fail to enjoy the hike as a result. I only edit my hikes afterwards cause it’s a lot of work. It’s not the stuff that you add to the video but the stuff you cut out that makes it worth watching. Instead I wrote a blog about my hike. The link is in the description fir the video. Much easier to do a written blog, in my opinion.
Thorvaldur Thorsson almost all of the PCT and JMT are the same. Just the start and finish are different. In the middle there is one section where the two trails split and you have an option to take one or the other. I chose the JMT route it was nicer. Good luck, the JMT is awesome
If only picked one trail it would be the PCT, it is easier than the other trail and has a great variety of landscapes. bikehikesafari.com/hiking-the-pacific-crest-trail/ However, the scenic highlights on the CDT are even better than the PCT, but the trail isn't finished yet and there is a bit of road walking which is still ok.
It's not marked very well. A combination of maps and GPS track are necessary to hike the trail. I was geographically misplaced in numerous occasions. Luckily it was easily fixed and I never really got lost.

Thanks for sharing your story. I love the music, I cant wait to hit the trails. I live in East OR. But was raised in I D.

I'm glad to see there are multiple videos for the AT. Enjoying your work immensely!
ZR cheers thank you
Love your videos! Easy to watch and very positive vibe...thank you!
Thank you for the kind words
I intend to do the triple crown when I am logistically able; your videos & blog is both useful & inspirational.
Takk,

Some great content here bud!!!!
I spent time with Yeah Yeah and Goober, two Aussies, on the AT. Aussies are a hell of a lot of fun on adventures.
I'm glad you discovered the best kept secret that Aussies rock. ;)
WOW, this looks like a very tough trail to do! Some of it looks too risky to do alone, would you agree?
2017 seemed to have been an incredible year for snowpack, but the desert was so beautiful with all that water. Thanks for sharing your journey, you guys have some big shoes to fill! I hope I can be in such good company when I do a CDT thru hike.
Great video!!!
Watching that made my morning.
Glad you liked it
Looks absolutely brutal !!!
Brutal in the best possible way

BikeHikeSafari That’s awesome! Best of luck!
What an adventure well done despite all the adversity. Hike on and safe journeys.

Very nice content.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for making these videos. Always super entertaining!

I am an Aussie hiker doing the CDT next year and this is a tremendous resource. Well done on your achievement. See you in the mountains.. 😀. Rick

Keep rocking friend!!
Cheers thank you. I wish it was longer too.

Amazing choice of lifestyle and great adventure. One life

Love seeing these CDT videos!

Hey thanks WildFeather, great to meet you on the trail and share the great hike.
So far the videos I’ve seen are magically scored. Good job on your editing skills. :))
Thank you for the kind words
Awesome video. Thank you so much for a fantastic video. How beautiful is that? Keep up the good work?
A difficult trail. Glad you enjoyed it.

Solid video! Thanks for taking us along for the journey
Snow Pound you’re welcome.
Another great video! You always do a great job telling the story in your videos. Keep it up!

it would be helpful if you could show whats in your pack and talk about the essentials.
You can find that info on my website bikehikesafari.com/
Another awesome video keep it up ..
Cheers, thank you
A magnificent production Brad. The grey in the beard gives you a very distinguished look. I swear you’re nearly as handsome as I am.
Cheers again
Amazing video, really enjoyed to watch it. Do you plan to release a video from your Te Araroa thru-hike? Your blog helped me a lot when I hiked the TA
Thanks for making these videos.

He looks like the late Oakland raiders QB Kenny stabler!
pelle lindbergh only better looking
This was awesome and Kool seeing crunchmaster fallowing him on the pct this year
Met him on the PCT in 2015, hiked part of the CDT with him and he hiked the first day of the Appalachian Trail with me. A legend of a guy.
GREAT.!!!!!
Thank you
Your video was nicely done. You have a new subscriber. Left, Right, Left
Cheers, thank you.

Congrats on the successful hike! I’m curious if you think hiking the CDT with a dog is at all a possibility. Seeing all those water crossings and deep snow make me think it’s probably not a good idea.
Not sure, definitely there would be sections where it would be fine. A hard trail for a human. Very hard for a dog.
Nice. What’s the song title & artist at~5:45? Thx

really nice video! We do hiking vlogs as well and they are also so much fun. keep it up man

Nice video I hiking the JMT this August. How much oft the trails is actually on a trail there?
Thorvaldur Thorsson almost all of the PCT and JMT are the same. Just the start and finish are different. In the middle there is one section where the two trails split and you have an option to take one or the other. I chose the JMT route it was nicer. Good luck, the JMT is awesome
A W E S O M E 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Those were New Mexico Lobos
That's what I thought but it seems most people think otherwise.
I think I have met the dude from south korea. Did he hiked the AT 2019?
In 2017 he was on the AT. Spontaneous is his trail name.
Great video. I would love to do the CDT some day.
Thank you, it is a great trail
BikeHikeSafari how do you rate our 3 long distant trails? If you could only pick one, which one would it be?
If only picked one trail it would be the PCT, it is easier than the other trail and has a great variety of landscapes. bikehikesafari.com/hiking-the-pacific-crest-trail/
However, the scenic highlights on the CDT are even better than the PCT, but the trail isn't finished yet and there is a bit of road walking which is still ok.
Good to know. Thanks.
❤️😄
How well marked is the trail?
It's not marked very well. A combination of maps and GPS track are necessary to hike the trail. I was geographically misplaced in numerous occasions. Luckily it was easily fixed and I never really got lost.
hahaha "d'ya wanna turkey sandwich"
I fully intend on thru hiking without the ridiculous looking ski pole thingys.
I thought that on my first thru hike, when I used the poles I found I wasn't as tired. Personal choice.
new subs
I seriously don't understand how you navigate and stay on trail unless you have a garman and can navigate through it
You've done half of the trail. You should finish the rest before you've said you've done it.

Coyotes.
entropyhappens damn big coyotes but yes I think you are correct
wolves
I think the general consensus is Coyotes. But I thought wolves at the time
you are correct. was able to see this on a bigger screen. defo coyotes.
great vids, btw
very well done and inspiring

Wolves!
That's what I thought but most people disagree
@@bikehikesafari They might be Mexican gray wolves which are smaller than other wolves in North America. They're endangered and pretty rare though.
The true continental divide would be from Texas to Minnesota
Not sure about that, I was hiking in the headwaters of the Rio Grande in New Mexico and Colorado. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Divide_of_the_Americas
Wolves
That's what I thought at the time, huge paw prints.
