If it's Southern Rock it's gonna be fire. George hit on my 2 thoughts. It's holding up after 40+ years. It's a mix of all music. In the 70's we had Rock and Country. Everything was in one of those categories. Music in the south was more of a melting pot than most will believe. Rickey Medlocke played with Blackfoot and is now playing with Lynyrd Skynyrd, at 73 years old. Great song, band and reaction. Keep 'em coming.

Blackfoot were a B list band. They were popular but not like the iron maidens and Judas priest of the world. But I saw them open for probably six different bands and every time no matter how great the headliner was Blackfoot blew them off the stage. Even a couple of the headliners actually mentioned on stage that they needed to step their game up to keep up with the opening band.
They were just high energy southern rock and live they just had an energy about them that was hard to match.

Saloons in Texas are Icehouses. Usually with one or more walls of garage doors. Originally named for selling blocks of ice for iceboxes, before the proliferation of electrical refrigeration. The ole' timers will tell you they come to the ice house to get ice, but hang out for a beer, and a jug or two Togo. You had to bring your own jugs. Otherwise, they served the same purpose as the original saloons patronized by the colonists of America.

During his first stint with Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1971 to 1972, he played drums and sang lead on a few songs that would initially be released on 1978's "First and... Last". Medlocke would rejoin Blackfoot in 1972 and later returned to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 as a guitarist with whom he continues to tour and record today. Being of self-identified Native American ancestry, specifically Lakota Sioux and Cherokee, Medlocke was inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Rick Medloke is the guitarist and singer, Shorty Medloke is the harp player and that is Rick's grandfather. And he was no spring chicken when they recorded that.

The front man Rickey Medlock drummed on early Lynyrd Skynyrd cuts . Later in his career he played guitar with them.

For the record this album was recorded in ann arbor and Detroit, produced and managed by AL Nalli. I had the pleasure of painting Al's house and he told me a bunch of cool stories about managing Blackfoot, Brownsville Station, and Lynard Skynard

Y’all need to do some bluegrass covers. Amazing how hard some dudes can go on acoustic instruments. Tony Rice will blow your mind.

If a rock song has that blues structure, I don't think it can ever be bad.

I saw Blackfoot in the early 80s and Ricky blew the doors off the place. He had a ton of stage presence, too - a big ole tall American Indian dude just killin it. He was part of that early Skynyrd "clan" and Shorty "Paul" (grandfather/harmonica player) was one of their music mentors. He actually played drums and sang harmonies on a couple Skynyrd albums. And, of course, he's a mainstay member of the current Skynyrd line-up.

Amazing song!! Have been a fan since it came out. I was lucky enough to meet the drummer Jackson Spires when he was in Southern Rock Allstars (along with Dave Hlubek of Molly Hatchet) when my brothers band opened for them....After the show they invited me to set with them and both talked and treated me like we were old friends!!! Awesome people!!!
The singer Rickey Medlocke was in early version of Lynyrd Skynyrd then returned in the late 90's.
