    One thing that I feel should be mentioned is the ability to buy replacement parts from the OEM and whether or not the OEM provides guides on how to repair your device.
    I say this as my 5 years old roomba has been cleaning 4x a week for the last 5 years and the one or two times something had broken, it was simple and easy to get a replacement part and replace it myself. I’m not familiar with Roborock but it would be nice to add to your comparisons.

    Because of working from home during covid, battery life can be more important because of noise. With my i7+, it can finish vacuuming my entire apartment if I go out to buy lunch or run an errand. Unfortunately the S9+ can't do the same job in one run so often needs to be run while I'm at home and the noise can be bothersome. Not only does the S9+ need to recharge in the middle of cleaning, but it runs significantly slower than my i7+ too.

    I would much rather each vacuum get a rating (say 1 to 10 or 1 to 5) for each category than simply awarding a point to the one that might be very slightly better. Not only would this compare more accurately, but it would allow people to compute their own weighted scores based on how much they value each of the individual categories.

      I agree!! I don’t care about pet hair.. because I don’t have pets.. I don’t care about carpet.. because I don’t have carpet.. I have children and a husband with an outdoor lifestyle that are constantly tracking dirt and dropping crumbs.. and a very large home.. 2,000sqft on first floor with lvp flooring throughout.. I want to know if it has a mopping feature.. docks itself.. avoids shifting furniture and object avoidance as socks seem to fall from the clouds.. one without a bag system.. WiFi controlled.. long battery life and Will clean several rooms along with bathrooms with several area rugs

  • @victorc9195
    @victorc9195 2 года назад +8

    @vacuum wars I think you missed two big points regarding the Roborock…..one being that it has no bin-full sensor. It’s an issue because the bot sometimes fails to empty itself after a job because the alignment is sometimes off when it autodocks. This has a cascading effect because it results in the next job starting with a potentially full bin. It was getting to the point that I had to check the bin to make sure it emptied almost every time because otherwise the bot didn’t clean at all, it just wandered around with a full bin. The other issue with a mop/vac combo is that because the bot has a water tank, it inevitably has a smaller dust bin. The issue is again exacerbated by the fact that it doesn’t have a bin full sensor, so the possibility of the bin maxing out during a cleaning run and doing nothing for the rest of the session is very real….these were kind of deal breakers that def give the edge to iRobot in my opinion.

    • @alex8449
      @alex8449 2 года назад +1

      Not really you can just schedule a few rooms and it'll auto empty then just have a separate schedule for the other rooms and it'll empty... I don't even own one and even I know that... Creating two schedules takes 30 seconds and your problem is solved
      It's also one less sensor to clean which means roborock is the winner

    • @victorc9195
      @victorc9195 2 года назад +2

      @@alex8449 maybe you missed the part where I said it doesn't empty all the way.... habitually...a self emptying robot that doesn't empty itself is a fail, so the nod goes to irobot.

    • @Osama-cy1ch
      @Osama-cy1ch Год назад

      I've been using an S7+ for 10 months daily now without ever experiencing this issue...just got a s7 max v ultra last week and again no issues similar to what you're describing.......seems like you were experiencing a software bug and nothing more.
      It seems you're unaware irobot has a patent on a bin-full sensor until 2023...roborock has found a clever way around that and it works incredibly well.

    Thank you, this was a super helpful match up video!
    I’d love to see one comparing the Dyson Omniglide and the Dyson Micro. I love the multi-directional feature of the Omniglide, but the handle of the Micro makes me think the Micro might be a better choice (because you can use it more easily as a small handheld vacuum). But with the Micro you miss out on the dual fluffy rollers as well as the multi-directional head. So I’m really torn!

    Battery life is a huge deal. For those of us that work from home, we need the vacuum to finish the job on the first attempt. I can't have the vacuum running out of juice, then resuming while I'm on a conference call. 5 hours later when the battery fully recharges, everyone is starting to get home and will want to watch TV or have dinner without the vacuum rolling under their feet. The battery is a much bigger deal than people realize.

    • @zmast333
      @zmast333 2 года назад +2

      Also, batteries degrade over time, which means they don't hold charge as long as they used to. Having a bigger battery is good because it may very well mean that you never need to replace it.
      For instance, say that the usable battery capacity drops to 50% after several years. If that's still enough to vacuum your home, you won't even notice it.

    How about finding a way to test their HEPA filtration system? A vacuum is only as good as it's ability to prevent the particles from becoming airborne.

    • @jjayguy23
      @jjayguy23 2 года назад +1

      True, but remember these tiny vacuums have only a fraction of the suction that upright versions have. Less airflow, means a regular filter might be enough. To help combat the lack of HEPA filters, I make sure to run Air Purifiers in my house. My robot vacuum doesn’t aggregate my allergies, and it doesn’t have HEPA.

    Another good feature a company can add is the ability to customize mopping/vacuuming intensity based on area of the house it's in. So the entryways of the house get a harder scrub. And it preserves battery not having it as intense for other areas.

    Opinions please! If you had a home with 90%+ hard floors (the exception being one 9 X 12 area rug in the living room), would you just buy the best hard floor robovac, and manually vacuum the area rug? The bonus of that choice is that a vacuum for the carpet could be a model with a hose and attachments for extra convenience.

However, the mopping .is a complete joke and doesn't soak the mopping pad well enough and leaves a small streak. This seems to be more of a design problem. The Roborock suffers from a fatal design flaw that over time causes an error 10 'filter is clogged or wet' and reduced fan speed. The issue is that there is something about the design that allows dirt and dust to pass the filter and catch basin and clog the intake fan housing. This also causes reduced suction power over time. The other problem is, there is no easy way to clean the intake, it requires disassembling the machine and about 3 hrs of your time.

    Keen to see you test to T9 AIVI which has the same Aeroforce system as S9+ and higher suction power.

      I don't think the T9 is available in North America and there are rumors that it will not come here as part of the agreement that allows Ecovacs to use iRobot's patented brush system.

    Nice video. Currently the best value for money in my opinion is the Xiaomi Roidmi Eve Plus. At aprox 450$ it is a very good investment. Roborock S7 and the roomba cost about 2x as much and no way that either of them clean 2x better than that one.

    I just ordered a roborock s7 (without empty dock) yesterday. Haven't watched this yet, but hoping it doesn't convince me I made the wrong decision... Couple reasons I went with the s7 is the mopping (I have all tile downstairs) and that it's bagless... I'll get a Roomba to replace my current roomba for upstairs (which is all carpet). From what I seen so far, roomba is better for carpets.

      How do you like it? We have 2700 sq ft carpet, tile and vinyl. One Persian cat and 1 girl. Concerned about pet hair and ability to clean carpets. Any issues with emptying the dirt bin or hair breaking or getting stuck on rollers etc? How is the maintenance? Does it auto detect when the on-board bin is full and go back to the base for a clean or does it keep cleaning but doing a poor job because the bin is full? Does the robot detect when the outside waste bin bag is full?

    Yeah I think the S7 auto empty dock (EU bagless version) will take the point if you ever get to test it. So many people have always wanted a bagless version due to the amount of pet hair their robots pick up daily. Myself included, plus the S9+ here in australia is like $2k+ its a little overpriced comparatively for international markets.

      @@ratcliffe1992 I don't have the dock but have thought about it. I have debated getting it since there is not a bagless version in the US and the dock is pricey. Hoping it will decrease since the S7 Max Ultra will be coming out soon.
      I empty the S7 bin but I hate when the dust gets over my fingers and is flying everywhere in the trash bag/air even with just a small amount that was vaccumed.
      Did you notice any issues when emptying the auto emptying bin/canister since it is bagless?
      Is it true that with the bagged version you can't see how much dirt it picks up and once you take the bag out it breaks?

    I recently had to send back my s7, after ending up a very common error called #2, which tells you the bumper is stuck and needs cleaning... the reseller confirmed that over half of the s7's are being returned due to this error. It was so disappointing

    I previously said that I would get a roborock for my tile downstairs, and a roomba for my carpet upstairs. After getting the roborock, I think I'm gonna get another s7 for my upstairs. Just to be able to manage both robots from the same app. As well as not need to buy separate accessories and replacement parts. Although roomba is said to do better for carpets, I don't believe I need the extra effectiveness from it.

    I went from the iRobot braava jet M6 to the Roborock S7, and the S7 is in a whole different universe. It’s almost eerie how intelligently it navigates, especially compared to the system in the M6. You couldn’t pay me to go back.

    (1) Are either of these 2 more likely to grab onto a bed skirt and not let go?
    (2) with regards to the one that mops too - how does it work around a sloppy dog’s water bowl and loose dog hair? I have that issue with Swiffer. I try dry - sweeping first, but if I get too close to the bowl, I just get a mess that often doesn’t pick up. I may have to wait 10 mins or so before I go back with the sweeping. It may be next to impossible to put in auto mode if I’m somewhere else.

    I do like the head to head format for alike robots. Maybe it's worth giving half-marks for 'slight' advantages like the price being only 10% cheaper or the hair tangles being equally good except in extreme hair length circumstances.
    I do wish your reviews included more tests of navigational complications since in my experience finding a robot that can navigate your space can outweigh some vacuum performance ability.
    For example, I unfortunately had to return the Deebot D8+ which was an *excellent* robot, but it struggled with my mirrored closet doors and navigating over my dark blue bathroom mat.
    My Roborock S6 has no issue with these environments, and that is the only reason I was unable to "upgrade".
    The Deebot had no problem vacuuming a deep shag carpet whereas the stock S6 side brush would get tangled up in it. It turns out that a knockoff replacement side brush solved this problem on the roborock.
    Some tests I would recommend are mirrors, dark rugs, shoelaces, loose cords, tight spaces (like navigating under 4 legs of a chair), shag carpeting... I'm sure you can find more examples of navigational complications online.
    Anyway, love the channel! Keep it up!
