Beloved Lora, you really ARE a wonderful teacher . . . Thank you, so very much! I’m a 75 year old lady who, when I am able to move back to my apartment in Miami, will be able to make a number of customized rugs for my apartment that aren’t made of air-polluting plastics and acrylics. Again, Dear One: Thank you, and God Bless you! 😘❤️🌹
Oh WOW! What a beautiful post to read this morning! Thank you for the day brightener! Your words are sincerely appreciated. Thank YOU & Blessings to you!
Thank you!! I have been wanting to make a half circle rug for my small bathroom. Your beautiful instructions will make this possible. again, thank you!❤
So glad this showed up. Mother and i have been crocheting rag rugs for years Using a J or K hook. Always round rugs. So glad this popped up now we can make half moon rugs. Your instructions are very easy to follow like the prompt cards life can get busy and now no guessing>>
Lora, here i am again. 2 yrs later! Back to make a few more rugs! I am doing a kitchen face lift. Fresh paint n hinges. So i am making a new rug for at the sink. I have used your techniques over and over again! I cant even tel you how many rugs i have made! Oval, round, rectangular and now this half round again! I have been squirreling away sheets and other fabric bc i want to make a very large area rug for my living room. But it will be made using the technique for the Bonnie cord Thank you for sharing these videos! How are you?? Haven't seen a video in a while! Blessings!
Hello! So wonderful hearing from you!! I'm smiling!! You'll love the Bonnie Craft Cord! We have 18 colors in stock .. so beautiful! I'm doing wonderfully - absolutely no complaints! @@RagstoRugsbyLora so glad you are doing well! I actually use the Bonnie cord for my macrame projects! I work with a lot of different fibers for various fiber arts. From crochet, macrame, rag rugs, rag bowls, rag place mats and table runners. I have used some old towels to make a bath mat for stepping on as ya get out the shower. I have recommended your YT page to many who have asked me to teach them how to make their own rugs, you are a wonderful teacher... Thank you and Blessed Be 🧶🪡

Lora, thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I have so enjoyed each and every one. Your videos so easy to understand, and I appreciate that. I’ve made several rugs and given them to so many family and friends and everyone always loves them. I’m so glad I came across one of your videos about five years ago.Thank you again 😊

I can't tell you how happy I was to see that you made this video. I totally love the pattern. I've already made one and working on a second one. I did have one question. To change color on the scalloped edge should the new color be on the chain on at the end? Your videos are so great. I can't tell you how many oval rugs I've made to donate to those in need. Thanks so much Lora. You are the best!
Good Morning, Carol! How happy this makes me that you are enjoying the pattern!! YAYAYAYAY!! And donating them warms my heart for sure! As to the changing color, I generally change just before the chain & turn - adding the new fabric at that point will allow for a smooth transition. Hello, Austin! Thank you SO MUCH for reaching out! Isn't it such a good feeling to be able to use old sheets that otherwise would end up in a landfill? A wonderful way to recycle! I hope you'll stay in touch & share your beautiful rugs!
Hello!! Thank you for reaching out & watching our videos! Absolutely!! We have the Fabric Rolls available on our website!! There are 16 different colors to choose from: lights, darks & pastels!! Just click on FABRIC! www.ragstorugs-bylora.com/
Hello, Jessica! I'm so happy you reached out! You can use ANY fabric you would like. And the width is up to you! I normally use a 2" width strips but you are not limited to that. I've always said, the heavier the fabric (like denim) the narrower the strips (1 1/2"), the lighter the fabric the wider the strips (2 1/2 - 3"). With regard to bias or straightcut .. that's also entirely up to you! :) Bias cut fabrics (like our fabric rolls) won't have the threads but they WILL stretch so you'll need to keep in mind tension when working with bias cut fabric. Straightcut fabrics WILL generally have threads to deal with, but tension won't be as much of a concern. Many rug-makers use jelly rolls to create their rugs. They are beautiful but can get rather pricey. Consider incorporating some recycled bed sheets with the jelly rolls to keep your cost down. You can pick up a set of bed sheets at your local GoodWill or Salvation Army for a few dollars & will have nearly 12 yards of usable goods AND keep undo waste out of landfills! :) Hope this helps!! Thanks for asking!
Thank you this is awesome! I do have one question. If the rug increases in size how do you figure out if the scalloped edge is going to come out right?
GREAT question! Always make sure the # of stitches along your edge is divisible by 4! (+1 stitch to turn) If it doesn't work out to a # divisble by 4, use the previous row (before starting the scallop border) to make any necessary adjustments! EASY!!
It sure will, Diann! In fact I'm in the process of making a Bonnie Craft Cord rug for my deck! It is such a durable fiber! Here's another video you might be interested in using craft cord! ruclips.net/video/KAMt10NQgyc/видео.html
Hello, Elaine! Great question! Allow 2 1/2" for your scalloped border. If measuring the width of your rug 2 1/2 x 2 = 5". Subtract that from the overall size you would like your half-round rug to be. If your goal is 30" as an example - measure across. At 25" you will stop your rounds & start your scalloped border!
I just recently found your channel. I'm enjoying your videos. At 70 I'm always looking for ways to supplement my income. How do you calculate how much to charge for a project? Thank you for sharing your gift.
Hello, Kathleen! I'm so happy you found us and THANK YOU for your kind words! Pricing your beautiful creations can sometimes be hard. Several things need to be taken into consideration: your labor, cost of goods, and the location you're selling them! Keeping your cost of goods down by using recyclable goods (bed sheets etc) is a good idea. I generally double my cost of goods & charge at least $10/hour for the time you invested in the rug. By keeping the cost of goods minimal, you can pay yourself more! The area you are selling the rugs comes into play too. Always have a display rug on hand to demonstrate the beauty of your work! Hope this helps some!!
Hello Blair! Thank you!! I've never used yarn with this pattern - only fabric & jute! If you try it, please let me know how it goes! I'd love to hear!! Thank you for watching & reaching out!
Ues, its looks really nice❣ I wish my grandchildren would stop picking harder designs, lol. I have done a fox, an owl, a flower, making a rug with smaller flowers/w leaves puzzeled together, n still have to figure out a wolf n raccon! Simple is soooo much better!! Lord help me as i got one who wants one that is knitted, 🙄.
@@RagstoRugsbyLora , well the owl rug is funny looking, lol! Not so pleased with the first flower rug. But my granddaughter likes it, the fox rug turned out beautifully but i had a pattern. Useing old sheets u dont get the elasticity near as much so i had to improvise some but as a whole its still sc/dc mostly. The current flower rug is much easier than i thought n now i find myself thinking up color pattern, ugg never satisfied syndrome i have, lol. I did forget to mention an oval bathroom rug was my first endeavor, took me 4 months as i really didnt know what i was doing. Made a round rug for my Aunt n it is so beautifull. Att, i couldnt master a scalloped edging but can now. I found i crochet tightly n have since learned to loosen up a bit. Width of fabric n size of hook really makes a diff. I did crochet with yarn, a turtle rug for my newest grandchild. Now thats cute but it was fustrating as i had to use a much larger hook to get the scallop on with the # of stitches as per required. SIMPLE IS SO MUCH BETTER! LLOL! I so want to make a half circle rug, ☺️❣
Hello, Jo! We used a 2" wide broadcloth fabric to make the rug. But you could use a 6 ply jute using the same "Q" crochet hook if you'd prefer! The same pattern, same hook - just using jute instead of fabric! Thanks for asking!!
Hello, Beverly! Yes! Fabric, Jute or Bonnie Craft cord would all work well!! I've not yet made a half-round with Bonnie Craft cord but I have NO doubt they would be wonderful! Without knowing the size of the half-round you anticipate making, it would be hard for me to guess how much you would need. I would expect to create the size as in the video would require 2 rolls. Hope that helps!
@@RagstoRugsbyLora Thank you for your quick reply. I think that I would make it 36" or 40" wide to be placed in front of the kitchen sink and the stove. Just like your Jute rug. Would you suggest 40"?
Hmmm ... not sure?! Do you have some news print, Beverly? Maybe you could cut a template out of it, lay the template in front of your sink (in both sizes 36 & 40") & get a feeling for the size. It's always easier for me when I can "see" something rather then just imagining it!
Hello, Maria! Thank you for asking! For this Half Round Rug we used our "Rug on a Roll" Broadcloth Fabric. It's a continuous roll of 2" wide broadcloth! You can find them on our website! MANY colors to choose from! www.ragstorugs-bylora.com/ Click on "Fabric"!
Hello, Annette! Could you give me a bit more information to help me answer your question? The number of fabric strips depends on the length of those same strips & the size of the rug you are making! A better measurement of your fabric usage would be yardage or weight. Did you know we have a rug (fabric, jute, bonnie craft cord & cora craft cord) calculator on our website! It's along the left border of the website. Simply share with us the information requested and we will calculate FOR YOU the amount of fabric you will need for all sizes and shapes of rugs and all TYPES of rugs: Crocheted, Twine-Woven & Toothbrush, by way of weight or by yardage or by our fabric rolls! Here's a quick link! ragstorugs-bylora.com/ It's on the left side margin or if you're on your phone click "Menu"!
Hello Kim! So sorry for delayed response! The half round rug we crocheted in this video measures 16 1/2 (depth) x 36" (width). Allowing for the toe kick under most cabinetry, it's the perfect size to slip under a bathroom vanity or kitchen sink cabinet! Hope that helps!
Hello, Linda! We have the Broadcloth Fabric Rolls on our website! There are 16 different colors - to choose from, lights, darks & pastels!! 100% cotton and BIAS CUT (no threads)!! Hello Rachel & thank you for reaching out! Quick question. When you are asking about the "bottom" of your rug not being flat, are you referring to the outer edge? Or are you referring to the way it lays on the floor? (i.e. Is it waffling or buckling?)
Hello, Jo! Thanks for asking but unfortunately we don't have the written pattern. The only "Pattern" I have is this video. But thank you for suggesting it ... on the "ToDo" list it goes! Hope you'll stay in touch!
Do you have the written pattern somewhere that I can get do you sell it I would like to buy the red for the big rug and the and the half size Rug I need to be able to see the pattern as I work

Hi Beauty♥️ sigh..i am so frustrated because i cant figure out why i only have 42 stitches at the end..before the border...instead of 45..its driving me crazy🤦♀️do you have any tips for me? I did everything with u step by step...and im not even a beginner
Ohhh ... I'm sorry Brittany! I can see you are a LOT like me! I am a definite "Type A" person! No worries though! Can you back it off one row & position (3) increases randomly? Spread them out so they won't be noticeable. These rugs are soooooo forgiving. You will never see the additional stitches in your rug.
@@RagstoRugsbyLora oh my goodness thank u so much for replying so quickly! I really appreciate it♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ i dont have time right now but i will definitely try your advice tonight!...thank u so so much!

Hope this helps some!!
can i used red heart yarn for this project? I love your work
Hello Blair! Thank you!!
I've never used yarn with this pattern - only fabric & jute! If you try it, please let me know how it goes! I'd love to hear!! Thank you for watching & reaching out!
@@RagstoRugsbyLora i think someone told me it doesn't work with red heart arylic cause it slick and move around alot on floors.
@@blairheiner6413 I can see that happening with yarn.
Better you then me, Gayle! I thrive on simplicity! LOL I'm sure your rugs are stunning!!
What size jute to make this rug, thank you
Hello, Jo! We used a 2" wide broadcloth fabric to make the rug. But you could use a 6 ply jute using the same "Q" crochet hook if you'd prefer! The same pattern, same hook - just using jute instead of fabric! Thanks for asking!!
Are you in Kansas? Same area code as me
Hello! We ARE! We're in Salina! Where are you from?

You said you could use Jute, can you make these half round rugs with the Bonnie Craft Cord. And if so, how much would I need?
@@RagstoRugsbyLora Thank you Lora. Great idea!
Hi Lora...can i use macrame cotton yarn? Thanks...
Yes you can! I use a 6 ply jute to make MANY of my rugs! They work up beautifully & are SO durable! Thanks for reaching out Nita!
I LOVE IT BUT THE PATTERN DO NOT COME OUT LIKE YOURS. WHAT MATERIAL ARE YOU USIING. THANK YOU

How many strips of yarn do you use

I know you said it was 36" wide, what is the height for this rug?
Hello Kim! So sorry for delayed response! The half round rug we crocheted in this video measures 16 1/2 (depth) x 36" (width). Allowing for the toe kick under most cabinetry, it's the perfect size to slip under a bathroom vanity or kitchen sink cabinet! Hope that helps!

I have tried this many times and every time my bottom is not flat. Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?😢
Hello Rachel & thank you for reaching out! Quick question. When you are asking about the "bottom" of your rug not being flat, are you referring to the outer edge? Or are you referring to the way it lays on the floor? (i.e. Is it waffling or buckling?)
Do you sell the pattern?
Hello, Jo! Thanks for asking but unfortunately we don't have the written pattern. The only "Pattern" I have is this video. But thank you for suggesting it ... on the "ToDo" list it goes! Hope you'll stay in touch!
Do you have the written pattern somewhere that I can get do you sell it I would like to buy the red for the big rug and the and the half size Rug I need to be able to see the pattern as I work
How do u keep the rug from slipping on the floor?
Great question, Jeanine! We use a latex rug backing product ... it's AWESOME!
You might watch this video. It's Tip #1!! Thanks for reaching out!!

I'm going to watch for your response & hopefully a picture of your rug!! You GOT this!!
@@RagstoRugsbyLora oh my goodness thank u so much for replying so quickly! I really appreciate it♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ i dont have time right now but i will definitely try your advice tonight!...thank u so so much!
@@RagstoRugsbyLora im also using T-shirt yarn instead of fabric..so my rug is super small compared to yours lol...but i will make adjustments to make it bigger...im making rugs for 5 of my aunts..your Tutorial is perfect♥️
