Though I’m probably not the first, I’ve just patented multiple ways to do the Celtic weave stitch- incorrectly! Unfortunately 3 of those times I thought I was doing it correctly and worked the entire round & had to tear it all out. You’re such a great teacher- it always feels like I’m sitting together, learning from a dear old friend, even though I’m homebound by a debilitating disease. Fortunately, I was able to figure it out after watching your other two videos and felt so happy and relieved, I was thanking God😊! Watching this video I desperately wanted to see the opposite (right side) of the rug at the moment just prior to placing the needle in to start the “second set of treble crochets” so I could see exactly where that was, but you didn’t show the right side until after you had put all the stitches in. It was such a pretzel I was in total brain block by that point! You were very clear about the fact the second set of trebles go into the stitches pointing away from me, but I found 3 places that met that requirement. I first put them into the set pointing away, directly beneath the two that pointed towards me (keeping all 4 stitches that created the original X together). That made a rather interesting braid pattern! Then I finally realized they were supposed to go into the “X set of 4 stitches” just prior to the set I worked the ones in that faced towards me in. So, essentially the first set of trebles go into into the stitches facing toward me in one X group and the second set of trebles go into the X preceeding group in the stitches facing away from me! That was great, but I still managed to work them in the wrong place by putting them BELOW the place where they are crossed over by the X made in that group.I finally realized they belonged ABOVE the place where the X for that grouping is created and I finally got the woven look. Yeah!! The only reason I made this insane attempt to describe what I did wrong is to hopefully help someone else who is in a muddle, but maybe I’ve just added even more confusion! LOL! Thanks as always for the wonderful patient way you teach!
Bonnie, you are so easy to understand. It all makes sense. I am a visual learner. I cast the videos to my TV and can pause and or stop them until I catch up! Thank you for your time here..

I am in the process of making this beautiful rug thank you for your clear instructions it’s turning out lovely . I would just say that for those who would like to make this with the wool ease the same as what Bonnie used in this pattern the small balls are only 87 yards and I worked it out I needed 15 balls I am waiting for the extra ones to arrive I first ordered 12 but when I received them I noticed the yardage would not be enough I live in Australia and ordered them from overseas I think they changed the yardage on the balls of yarn since Bonnie did this video

This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing such amzing work tutorial. ❤ I just completed making this rug witha thinner yarn and made some adjustments according to the size I wanted it to be. I want to show you but I don't see any option to upload a picture.
Gorgeous rug and again definitely on my todo list. Just one thing, when working on this thick yarn and large hook, can I suggest you zoom out a little as when it’s this close it makes you feel sick and sometimes your working partly out of shot 🙂
This is an older video, and with the ever changing technology I am learning as I go. Thanks for your understanding. There's a grandma behind this computer!
I just finished this rug it looks absolutely beautiful. You instructions were spot on and easy to follow. Would you think of doing something similar in a blanket form or rectangular rug? Love your channel keep up the great work!
Sorry for the delay Michelle. This is just now showing up in my feed. I do have many Celtic Crochet designs on my home page here: ruclips.net/user/BonnieBayCrochetvideos?view_as=subscriber
Thanks for the explanation. You're a great teacher. I started with a sovereign thread. Is it a mistake not to knit with a thinner thread? The example is indeed less noticeable. Also want to delve 2 more colors that I have already bought. . At first light beige. Then darker and finally darker seven. Where do you think you should combine them? At what stage? Huge thanks. Mali Israel
Thank you for your kind words! I think thinner yarn would be fine, as long as you don't mind a smaller rug/project. You could change colors at the beginning of the Low Front Ridge/Cable/Low Front Ridge section, and then perhaps again with the Celtic Weave rounds. I would love to see this when you are finished! If you have the time, you can always send to me at bonniebay@me.com. Blessings...
Thanks I added a yarn of a different color. Unfortunately I started with a sovereign thread, the thickness of the thread does not allow to see the beauty of the three-dimensionality. The rays. Awareness that the carpet will be reduced. I will add and increase. I would love to send. Do you have any more interesting examples of rugs and other home accessories? You are very talented. 😘

Yes, it is right here: ruclips.net/video/ZBsbwUqzsVo/видео.html. If ever looking for a left-handed version of my videos, just use the search bar and add "left-handed" to the original title and it should be there for you!

Thankyou so much for this tutorial! It's absolutely beautiful. I'm currently halfway through. I bought the lion brand yarn 5oz/140g/87 yards/80m. I'm on row 21 and I'm on my 5th ball of yarn 🙈 worried I'll run out! I bought 6 as suggested. Should I buy more?
@@abigailmusic7236 I used the larger skeins (12 oz each or something like that). You will be using a lot of yarn on the Celtic Weave rounds for sure. Here are the yarn requirements from the pattern: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn super bulky (super chunky) weight acrylic/wool/rayon yarn (6 oz/106 yds/170g per skein):
Thankyou so much for your help! I've ordered some more. I'm from the UK and I could only find the smaller sizes in lion brand. Otherwise the shipping would have cost me a bomb. Your tutorial is brilliant and so easy to follow. My rug is looking beautiful. Thankyou so much :)
Abigail Smith I understand that one! That’s why I love to bring yarn home when traveling abroad. I still have some amazing yarn from the UK waiting on my hooks!
It would depend upon which stitches you wish to add after the Low Front Ridge Rows. It would also take some calculation/additional designing as to the number of stitches on that round.
So beautiful, thanks for sharing your expertise! I'm not able to purchase the (lovely) Wool Ease right now but I'm wondering if you think doubling worsted weight strands would be enough to get close to the stitch details of yours, although not cushy like yours?
This is awesome. Your video made it a lot easier to understand than the written one from the magazine. I just have a question. Could you use regular worsted weight (#4) yarn for this and how many strands together would be somewhat equal to the super bulky yarn (#6) that you used? I thought this would be a great way to use up some of my worsted weight scraps together. Tyia!
Absolutely Penny! That is a great idea! I would try doubling it and see what you think. If you need more, add another. Maybe you can try swatching and see how many strands you need (the size of various worsted weight yarns does vary) to match the hook size, of just go with what you are comfortable with, if that makes sense.
Thank you bonnie for sharing this absolutely amazing rug 😻 I have a question though, the bigger i try to make mine the more corrugated it becomes, i begin with a circle and end up with lots of ups and downs at the periphery more like what u get when u're making a scrunchie, do you know what i'm doing wrong or what can i do to avoid this? Thank you again 💎
Amaallah Amaallah how far are you I think the project? It will be this way at the beginning of the Celtic Weave stitch, but it should work out since you won’t be adding stitches for several rounds.
Hi Bonnie, thank you so much for the beautiful pattern and excellent tutorial!! I made the rug using worsted weight yarn and and an "I" hook. I can't use the bulky weight yarns, my hands just get very tired very quickly so I stay away from them. I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for me to help increase the size. I was thinking I would repeat another 4 row section of the Celtic weave still separated by an additional lower front ridge section...my biggest question would be where and how many stitches should I increase to be certain it still lays flat? I appreciate any guidance or suggestions you might have!
What a beautiful rug. I have actually been searching for a Christmas tree skirt pattern and I think this would be perfect. Do you think I would be able to alter this pattern by crocheting it with an opening for the tree?
Hi Bonnie. I wish you could creat some more mandela rugs for cal. There are some really beautiful ones in another language. I just don't want to start them and get halfway to only get lost. I am making g this beautiful one . Thank you
I absolutely love this rug! Do you have an oval pattern for a chunky rug? I want something that would be approximately 6’x9’ I have been searching and everything I find is in a language that I do not understand. I would gladly pay for the pattern. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You do exquisite work! Thank you for sharing!
Okay so I keep commenting on this pattern times three. As I finish up the Celtic weave section again, I realize it is the very hardest part for me! Having trouble finding the stitches in the back post sections! Also why not turn project after weave and do 4 front post DC one DC repeat? The back post DC are such a challenge is why I ask..thanks!

Awww...thank you Diane! Yes, all but two designs (the Tree of Life Afghan, and the Chevrons & Diamonds Throw) are mine. I've been infatuated with crocheting cables for many years!
@@BonnieBayCrochet Ah thank you. I've been having so many internet problems recently - I couldn't see the rest of the magazine. I guess I'll have to get it. I have another question, if you don't mind? I want to buy the Cumulous cowl/hat and scarf on Love Crafts: it says it's "intermediate." Is that hard? Is this the same level as Celtic throw? I've managed that one (with lots of starts/re-starts). Thank you. Regards.

Amaallah Amaallah how far are you I think the project? It will be this way at the beginning of the Celtic Weave stitch, but it should work out since you won’t be adding stitches for several rounds.

Okay thank you 😃
Hi Bonnie, thank you so much for the beautiful pattern and excellent tutorial!!
Hi, beautiful pattern, thank you. Do you think it would work with cotton yarn as well?
That should be fine Olivier! Will be nice and heavy too.
What a beautiful rug. I have actually been searching for a Christmas tree skirt pattern and I think this would be perfect. Do you think I would be able to alter this pattern by crocheting it with an opening for the tree?
It is amazing
Boni achei lindo, pena que não sei falar inglês, mas estou tentando fazer, parabéns.
Love it 😍thank you so much ❤️🌹🤗
Thank you so much. How large is the rug?
Mary Webb I don’t have something yet, but will add a note to my ever growing wish list!😊❤️
BonnieBayCrochet Thank you I will be waiting and watching 😜
Thank you for making this tutorial!! I really want to make this but can I use a 5 mm hook since this is what avaliable with me?
nice learning pattern for me
Okay so I keep commenting on this pattern times three. As I finish up the Celtic weave section again, I realize it is the very hardest part for me! Having trouble finding the stitches in the back post sections! Also why not turn project after weave and do 4 front post DC one DC repeat? The back post DC are such a challenge is why I ask..thanks!
I personally like the look of the back post double crochets better. You can use fpdc if you prefer.
Should you ever require a faster reply, please feel free to email me at bonniebay@me.com (this is also listed in the video description). I am still a one person operation and have over 600 videos. I usually get a prompt, but not always. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
Thank you so much 🙏
Bonnie that is beautiful. Do you create your patterns for all the things you crotchet on here. You amaze me❤️❤️
Awww...thank you Diane! Yes, all but two designs (the Tree of Life Afghan, and the Chevrons & Diamonds Throw) are mine. I've been infatuated with crocheting cables for many years!
Are you able to make this larger if you want to?
Ok, so I've found the magazine issue (I think), but is there anywhere I can buy it on its own? Thank you.
Not that I'm aware of LH. Annie's owns the rights to this design so to my knowledge they are the only ones who have a right to sell it.
Thank you. Regards.
@@LH-rz6rb I think the Cumulous Cow/Hat are pretty straightforward and worked in the round. You can always contact me at bonniebay@me.com if you run into issues.
@@BonnieBayCrochet Thanks Bonny. I tried to do it without the video (to test myself - I am really a beginner) , but I'm glad it's there. I am managing, thank you. It's freeezing here in SA, so I'm trying to get these done asap. Thank you for always responding. 😍
@@BonnieBayCrochet Just to clarify - I went ahead and bought the pattern. LOL. Just realised I didn't mention that in my last reply.
Are you turning after each rd? Or working in the circular?
Edit to add: i didnt see the turning in the beginning 6 rows is why i ask. It may be i missed it but definatly noticed the turning after. Forgive me if indeed you were turnjng all along.
No problem Gayle. Yes, I turn at the end of each round unless specified not to.
@@BonnieBayCrochet , oh thankyou❣
Beautiful rug! Do you have half circle rug?
No, I don’t have one like that on my channel yet.
