    Great video! Thank you! When you say "5-bolt diff" and "1-bolt diff", they have the proper identification: T-type diff and VA-type diff.

    I happen to have the proper tool for the single bolt side cover, it was on Ebay from a Subaru dealer that was going out of business!

    but most subaru`s run the 4 bolt diff = R160 - so you got the early 1994- r150 - i call it and a 5 bolt is a R180 - that come`s in an STI - so you missed the main most popular common everyday diff ! R160 4 bolt open diff ! but still they are basically all the same = so mine is a R160 4 bolt true track LSD 2way 4.44 type in my 2001 GT Forester Turbo = works super well . more grip - less slip !

    Does this differential noisy when it's lock?

  • @sammycda
    @sammycda 4 года назад +1

    Does anyone have any experience using the diff in the snow/ice? Years ago I installed a "Lock-Rite" diff in my Suzuki Samauri and it was flat scary on icy roads. I was traveling on the interstate on an icy day, about 35mph and approached a slight curve. The Samauri did a couple of 360s and hit the center divider without any change in throttle from me.
    I think the Lock-Rite diff is the same as the Torqmaster's diff used in the Subaru installation but maybe the company changed hands?

    • @tylerferber1791
      @tylerferber1791  4 года назад +2

      I believe its a completely different company and yes we went last week play in some snow and Ice and had no troubles

    • @fzj8022
      @fzj8022 4 года назад +2

      Different company but very similar design. In a rwd vehicle an auto locker is terrible. I have an Aussie locker in my land cruiser and it's full-time 4wd, viscous coupling center diff with a 60/40 rear bias split so it's very similar in snow and ice. I've had it in for 2 winters now and it's alot better than open diffs, sure if you get on the throttle hard it will kick out but it's easy to catch it. Nothing has even come close to happening with it being dangerous. My 65 year old mom even drives it without a problem

    I saw videos of cars with the loqr installed and they performed great off road.. What bothers me is how noisy the clicking is when applying none to mild throttle. Honestly that’s very annoying to the point one would think something is broken inside the diff. Is the clicking something that can be fixed in the future?

    • @Crono454
      @Crono454 Год назад

      the way the plates slip by each other, they are close to catching but don't quite catch, then when some pressure is applied they come together, the same thing that makes the ratcheting noise is the same thing that makes it work, can't really have one without the other.
