I could easily replace Tool with Meshuggah on the list personally. Djent is everywhere these days, and whilst Tool might be far more popular, I think Meshuggah have been far more influential overall. Even in the prog metal scene, most of the more prominent bands are more influenced by the likes of Dream Theater and Meshuggah than Tool, at least when you listen to what they're playing. Death deserves a mention though for sure, very technical and essentially the first band of any note to play true death metal.

Tool and Dream Theater is very hard to say metal but whatever they are metal in some way and also they are too good. But Linkin Park? WTF man. They are always been alt rock and their last album is pure pop garbage. The Hunting Party doesn't make them a metal band.
Always so surprised that the oldest metal band - SCORPIONS - gets completely overlooked. Sure they made some balads, like every band out there, but essentially they've always been heavy metal, since '65.
But some of Nickelback's song's are pretty badass. Also some of the songs from their new album. Im more of a Metallica n Megadeth fan though but can't deny Nickelback's talent
As influence I would say: 1)Black Sabbath (they created metal) 2)Slayer (they created any su genre of extreme metal) 3)Judas Priest (they also created metal, they created heavy metal and NWOBHM and during the 90s and 20s they dominated Speed Metal) 4)Metallica (they brought metal to kind of the whole world. Yes they sold out, but they turned back and James Hetfield never wanted to go blues rock) 5)Raimbow/Dio/anything by R.J. Dio (he also invented metal, he created power metal, he created the 🤘sign) 6)Iron Maiden (absolutely dominated the NWOBHM and also brought metal into many people’s houses. Also pioneered power metal) 7)Venom (extreme metal started with them, just to be perfected by slayer and brutalized by Kreator and Sodom) 8)Slipknot (yes, they are that important. They absolutely dominated Nu Metal bringing in the Death Metal Influence) 9)can’t decide between cannibal corpse and Death, so they’re both 9th (CC brought “popularity” to death metal and made it at its most brutal form. Death perfected Possesed proto-Death and brought the technicality) 10)Bathory (they pioneered the first wave of black metal and generally extreme metal) Honorable mentions: System of a Down (also popularized metal in a good way, with crushing brutal guitar riffs and emotional vocals) Behemoth (Blackened Death Metal. Nothing more to say. Demigod is a sophomore album from all metal. Second favorite among all) Tool (I’m not really into prog but I know that they’re important) Mayhem (like Death did with Possessed, Mayhem did with Bathory, Celtic Frost and Venom) Celtic Frost (same as Bathory, they just influenced Symphonic Metal instead of Viking metal) Candlemass (Doom, Epic Doom. Remember that YOU ARE BEWITCHED) KoRn (nu metal exists , love it or hate it, no Korn = no nu metal) Avenged Sevenfold (Metalcore , melodic Metalcore) Trivium ( same as A7X, but more aggressive) Hatebreed (some of the best stuff out there, stunning early metalcore clearly influenced by thrash and groove metal) Helloween (power metal. Nothing else to say) Manowar (created power metal, kinda) Children of Bodom Slaughter to prevail Lorna shore There’s too many
Oh I forgot Motörhead and King Diamond, my bad. Motörhead had sort of similar influences as Venom, so it’s a tie for the 7th. King Diamond and Bathory are on the same level. KD also influenced thrash.
10: System of a Down 9: MotörHead 8: Judas Priest 7: Pantera 6: Edguy 5: Slayer 4: Megadeth 3: Black Sabbath 2: Metallica 1: Iron Maiden Honorable Mentions: Tool, Candlemass, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Opeth.
I would put Metallica at #1 simply because they made their way to not only metal fans but a lot of people who don’t even listen to metal, they introduced a lot of people to heavy metal (me included) I heard nothing else matter and instantly liking it, they were going on tours and playing live nonstop, stadiums full of people. My gf hate rock, metal and sometimes I caught her listen to Metallica lol

This list will always be debated simply because of all the sub genre's etc. If it's strictly heavy metal.....here is mine: 1. Judas Priest 2. Metallica 3. Black Sabbath 4. Megadeth 5. Pantera 6. Iron Maiden 7. Accept 8. Motorhead 9. Slayer 10. Anthrax Again the majority of these lists are always a popularity contest with the exception being that Sabbath is quite often 1st because they created the genre. I always look at it as which band has done the most to broaden the acceptability of metal. Sabbath started it, Maiden may be the most popular and Metallica has definitely sold the most, but IMO Priest are the band that brought in the twin guitar attack, with the best voice in metal PERIOD and also took what Sabbath did and give it a kick in the ass with the up tempo songs. Plus they also created the look that metal is always associated with and were a band that was never afraid to take chances and not stick with the same formula with each album. Every album they created is different and they also were ballsy enough to use synth guitars on Turbo which is another thing that Priest started. Everyone has their favorites and if the list were to include all genre's my list would include the likes of AC/DC, Van Halen, Great White, Ozzy (solo), Dokken, Scorpions, etc. So many great bands in this form of music, and that's why it is the best form of music PERIOD.

Good no Metallica :D
Death is way better than Bolt thrower tho, also Morbid Angel were way better
Miss Pantera
My list with missing bands.
10.Possesed
9. Morbid Angel
8. Meshuggah
7. Celtic Frost
6. Dream Theater
5. Opeth
4. Mercyful Fate
3. Emperor
2. Bathory
1. Carcass
Hons. mention (or in other words my favourite bands): Nevermore , Gojira , Enslaved , Necrophagist , Exodus
If this is your top ten list then you've got no good taste in music
Enslaved,Gojira,Avatar, Satyricon,Dissection,Trivium, Mastodon,Savatage,Helloween, Iced Earth,Death,Morbid Angel, Possessed is a good metal bands!
Most of these bands are
AAARAAARRAARAARAR *NOISE* BRWWWWW
BLEEEEAAAAGY BREEEE BREEEE *NOISE*
You're confusing the words greatest and most popular.
Most influential actually. Metallica would be #1 if it was most popular
True
the biggest bands tend to be the best at their respective genres
The biggest bands are the most radio friendly bands, not particularly the best or most talented.
nah if it was most influential death would be like 3rd or 2nd cause they pretty much invented death metal and popularized it
A almost perfect list (where influence is concerned), exept for Tool, which is more of a alternative Rock project
Mine would be:
10. Repulsion/Napalm Death
9. Bathory
8. Death
7. Pantera
6. Slayer
5. Metallica
4. Mötorhead
3. Judas Priest
2. Iron Maiden
1. Black Sabbath
***** There is one on there mate, number 9
***** Oh I thought you were talking about my list, in this case you are right.
There should be a black metal band on this.
Imo Bathory
Jonas Wijte i don't care what anyone says, Black Sabbath(their self titled song) is and will always be the heaviest metal song ever made
Derek Bing And? how is that related to my comment, since I also had Black Sabbath at number 1 on my list.
Decent list!
Sees Death and Tool: This does bring a smile to my face Sees they’re only 9 and 10: 😭
It ain't in order bud!
The order is casual this is not a top 10
I could easily replace Tool with Meshuggah on the list personally. Djent is everywhere these days, and whilst Tool might be far more popular, I think Meshuggah have been far more influential overall. Even in the prog metal scene, most of the more prominent bands are more influenced by the likes of Dream Theater and Meshuggah than Tool, at least when you listen to what they're playing. Death deserves a mention though for sure, very technical and essentially the first band of any note to play true death metal.
No anthrax? :(
ikr
+vig They were #11! :)
+mechagamera uh huh, sure
No, they're in the trash...where they belong.
Zach V anthrax is the pop of metal.
My top 10.
1. Metallica
2. Amon Amarth
3. System Of A Down
4. Black Sabbath
5. Rammstein
6. Iron Maiden
7. Dio/Rainbow
8. Testament
9. Megadeth
10. Pantera
Can we all agree that Black Sabbath is the most influential and greatest metal band?
Judas Priest - one and only.
Don't hate me but I think Deaths pain killer was much better than the original :/
@@andrei1151 lol
@@andrei1151 I wouldn't say MUCH better (the original unquestionably kicked ass) but yes, better.
Seriously, the metal screams on that cover were unreal. It's a shame he didn't do them more often, he was right up there with Eric Adams and Rob Halford himself.
@@andrei1151
THEY DIDN'T WRITE IT
#1 DIO
#2 Judas Priest
In my opinion!
why are Megadeth and Motörhead so low on the list? Those guys kick more ass than bands like Slayer
it isnt meant to be in order. and its just whoever made this opinion
+runarboy1 yeah, it is...it lists them from 10 to 1...and Iron Maiden always beats everything (except for Sabbath in this case), so it's very biased
+Tony DeRosa That's because Iron Maiden is objectively (as objectively as music can get) the best metal band ever. They have the ability to make absolutely kick ass 5 minute songs, but also the most epic, melodic and simply beautiful 10+ minute songs out of any metal band.
Of course everyone has different opinions, but objectively maiden is probably the best.
+Jumanism (Motörhead is a close second though.)
+Jumanism I mean, iron Maiden is good, but they're not the best. I'd put them at #4 or #5 at best.

Nice
Exodus
Your list is soo good.
Without Saxon And Manowar The list is invalist
Death, Megadeth, and Pantera need to be top 5 for sure
Yes Fucking DEATH And fucking SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!
These lists are never in a specific order, it's 10 greatest metal bands not top 10 greatest.
+Robert Milot yeaah Chuck is The best
stereofk that would make more sense
PanterA stronger than all but your choices in whiskey and weed and Slayer is goddamn electric
My own top 10, trying to involve what the bands did for metal a bit as well, but also personal preference
10: Mercyful fate
9: Motorhead
8: Iron maiden
7: Slayer
6: Black Sabbath
5: Metallica
4: Dio
3: Death
2: Megadeth
1: Judas priest
1, 2, 3 are pretty equal but I can't make a top 10.
1. Metallica
2. Slipknot
3. Pantera
There should seperate lists for old school and modern metal bands
this is literally best of all time
@@sethcohen8951 no, this is the most overrated bands of all time
These are all fairly old school bands
Among these ten, this is my preference ranking:
1 Iron Maiden
2 Slayer
3 Judas Priest
4 Pantera
5 Megadeth
6 Death
7 Metallica
8 Black Sabbath
9 Motörhead
10 Tool
Black sabbath are the gods metal music

where the fuck are one direction
5SOS > One Direction
They're not metal, they're hard rock
+Iván Gómez Wtf dude, 5SOS is MeloDeath and One Direction is the best Thrash Metal Band, what are you talking about
+Fnuord Hase No dude, their last album "Peace Sells, but who's the Creeping Master of the Sanitarium" is definitely hard rock. You should get your facts before judging

#1 System of a down
#2 Tool
#3 Pantera
#4 Death
#5 Rage Against the Machine
Tool and Dream Theater is very hard to say metal but whatever they are metal in some way and also they are too good. But Linkin Park? WTF man. They are always been alt rock and their last album is pure pop garbage. The Hunting Party doesn't make them a metal band.
Always so surprised that the oldest metal band - SCORPIONS - gets completely overlooked. Sure they made some balads, like every band out there, but essentially they've always been heavy metal, since '65.
Scorpions is considered hard rock by 98% of the people
thats because they are hard rock/rock
Just edgier because they are German, same as the Teutonic thrash bands are generally more dark and evil sounding, it's just heavier rock lol
That's because this was done by people, who had no idea what the f*** they were talking about.
Where is nickelback?
THAT CORGI Lmao, what the fuck? Please tell me you are joking.
Gorkhaz
nickelback has the hardest guitar riffs, all the pro guitarists say that.
They are rock band idk why motorhead is here they are rock band too
I laughed my ass off at your joke, bro! Pls do more
But some of Nickelback's song's are pretty badass. Also some of the songs from their new album. Im more of a Metallica n Megadeth fan though but can't deny Nickelback's talent

good list but replace Slipknot with Black Sabbath
Where is dream theater?
Where is opeth?
And why isn't death higher on the list?
Because its their opinion not yours
It's not in order
Parham Mhss that’s what I was thinking
Dream Theater is 12.
Opeth is 11.
Because nine bands were ranked higher.
As influence I would say:
1)Black Sabbath (they created metal)
2)Slayer (they created any su genre of extreme metal)
3)Judas Priest (they also created metal, they created heavy metal and NWOBHM and during the 90s and 20s they dominated Speed Metal)
4)Metallica (they brought metal to kind of the whole world. Yes they sold out, but they turned back and James Hetfield never wanted to go blues rock)
5)Raimbow/Dio/anything by R.J. Dio (he also invented metal, he created power metal, he created the 🤘sign)
6)Iron Maiden (absolutely dominated the NWOBHM and also brought metal into many people’s houses. Also pioneered power metal)
7)Venom (extreme metal started with them, just to be perfected by slayer and brutalized by Kreator and Sodom)
8)Slipknot (yes, they are that important. They absolutely dominated Nu Metal bringing in the Death Metal Influence)
9)can’t decide between cannibal corpse and Death, so they’re both 9th (CC brought “popularity” to death metal and made it at its most brutal form. Death perfected Possesed proto-Death and brought the technicality)
10)Bathory (they pioneered the first wave of black metal and generally extreme metal)
Honorable mentions:
System of a Down (also popularized metal in a good way, with crushing brutal guitar riffs and emotional vocals)
Behemoth (Blackened Death Metal. Nothing more to say. Demigod is a sophomore album from all metal. Second favorite among all)
Tool (I’m not really into prog but I know that they’re important)
Mayhem (like Death did with Possessed, Mayhem did with Bathory, Celtic Frost and Venom)
Celtic Frost (same as Bathory, they just influenced Symphonic Metal instead of Viking metal)
Candlemass (Doom, Epic Doom. Remember that YOU ARE BEWITCHED)
KoRn (nu metal exists , love it or hate it, no Korn = no nu metal)
Avenged Sevenfold (Metalcore , melodic Metalcore)
Trivium ( same as A7X, but more aggressive)
Hatebreed (some of the best stuff out there, stunning early metalcore clearly influenced by thrash and groove metal)
Helloween (power metal. Nothing else to say)
Manowar (created power metal, kinda)
Children of Bodom
Slaughter to prevail
Lorna shore
There’s too many
Oh I forgot Motörhead and King Diamond, my bad. Motörhead had sort of similar influences as Venom, so it’s a tie for the 7th. King Diamond and Bathory are on the same level. KD also influenced thrash.
I was reading this comment and I thought “dude you think exactly like me”. Then I read the commentor and it was exactly me.
Slayer higher then Megadeth no way lmao
Slayer is far better

Add Slipknot somewhere in that list and you have a damn good top 10
DUFF Beer dream theater is more of prog rock
I would put Metallica at #1 simply because they made their way to not only metal fans but a lot of people who don’t even listen to metal, they introduced a lot of people to heavy metal (me included) I heard nothing else matter and instantly liking it, they were going on tours and playing live nonstop, stadiums full of people.
My gf hate rock, metal and sometimes I caught her listen to Metallica lol

Ozzy isn’t a band. Ozzy is an institution
Where's the Slayer
This list was so predictable. I think by greatest they meant most popular.
If so, Metallica would be #1.
Jakub G exactly.
***** I agree with you. Metallica is more popular though.

1: Metallica
Without Sabbath there would be Mettalica so be real (I’m fan of both)
My Top Five:
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Metallica
Black Sabbath
Pantera
This list will always be debated simply because of all the sub genre's etc. If it's strictly heavy metal.....here is mine:
1. Judas Priest
2. Metallica
3. Black Sabbath
4. Megadeth
5. Pantera
6. Iron Maiden
7. Accept
8. Motorhead
9. Slayer
10. Anthrax
Again the majority of these lists are always a popularity contest with the exception being that Sabbath is quite often 1st because they created the genre.
@thebreeze12, is Slayer a heavy metal band?
