    Sir, if Port 2 is terminated with matched load then the reflected component at port 2 i.e b2 must be zero. Right?

    when doing calculation for b1/a1= s11-(s12s21/1+s22) why did we only use the magnitude for the s values but not include the angles?

      the angles for s11 and s22 are 0, so we don't bother them. Now, when we multiply s12 and s22, the positive +45 and -45 angles sums up zero. why should we add those angles? because , convert them into exponential form and when we multiply two powers with same bases , we should add the powers to get the result. Hope this helps.

    I wonder why you don’t consider the phase values (angles) of the scattering parameters in any of the calculations?
    Is it because at the end you only need the modulus of Tau (reflection coefficient) ?

    When gamma is equal to b1/a1 that is s11 then why we calculated for b1/a1

    This solution is wrong, Because you have taken absolute value without considering Angle !!!!!
    S12 = 0.85( cos45 + j sin45) not just 0.85
