The guitarist was Shane Fontayne, a British guitar player who once played for Bruce Springsteen during his "other band tour" after he had disbanded the E-Street Band. Shane had also worked with Joe Cocker and Graham Nash, among others. FYI, the video you reacted to was the shorter edited version. The longer one has the complete performance and a clearer better mix of Ann Wilson's voice.
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. This is one of the best tributes to Led Zeppelin with Ann & Nancy doing the classic song "Stairway To Heaven". No one else could have pulled it off as well. "Heart" have had so many great hits such as "Magic Man", "Crazy On You", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc.
Nancy Wilson said that prior to going out on stage and knowing that Led Zeppelin were up in the upper tier watching them perform this song her fingers started getting cold and kind of cramping up because she was getting nervous to go out there on stage and perform to perfection. She said, never ever let your fingers get cold before you play a gig. Well it looks like she pulled through, of course she's a professional.
Unfortunately, this is a chopped-version of this performance. Why someone would cut a full minute out of this performance is beyond me. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you watch the FULL version. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/видео.html
@@KJ-4321 Stuff happens. Don't sweat it, maybe Shawn will read the comments and hook you up with another song. Me, I guess I don't know the vid as well as I thought I did bc I didn't notice anything. But when reading the comments I realized some things looked chopped. Great pick either way!!! Thank you.
@@snakeinthegrass7443 Just for your info, there's a huge difference between the chopped-version and FULL version. An entire verse, with some amazing vocals by Ann Wilson, are chopped.
Thing is, this is the finale of 4 song tributes that night. Jack Black was the host. Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters, and Kid Rock all played a different song. All were done well; this blew the roof off.
About time someone noticed him. I've watched several reaction videos and the only people they mention is the Obamas. I guess most people don't even know who Yo -Yo Ma is, sadly.
Heart's performance of this song always brings treats to my eyes. So powerful. Ann and Nancy are true Led Zeppelin fans; you really need to see their performance of The Battle of Evermore
Heart started out as a LZ cover band way back in the early 70s. Plant and the boys saw them and was impressed, and gave them permission to cover their catalog.
HEY SHAWN! Just FYI… This is actually a SHORTENED video of Heart’s entire “Stairway To Heaven” performance, here. The FULL thing is 7:59 minutes. It includes: MORE of Ann Wilson’s ad libbed vocals at the beginning, more views of the Obamas/other celebrities “rocking out” in the audience, as well as Led Zeppelin’s standing ovation for Heart at the end. Here’s a link to the FULL performance: ruclips.net/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/видео.htmlsi=fQEeQFpCVzIws7Nf
I think this was the most moved I have seen you during a reaction. AWESOME! This cover deserves. By the way, Ann Wilson was 62 years old when she sang this.
Great reaction. I've seen this many times and it just gets better. It is, without doubt, THE best cover of any song, ever. I read somewhere that Robert Plant invited Jason Bonham to be with them that night but he said he couldn't go because he had a gig he couldn't get out of.
I don't know who other than Ann Wilson could have soared over the choirs, strings, horns and ringing guitars. Phenomenal performance all around. So emotional
They were so proud of Jason Bonham and everyone wearing the Bowler Hat that his Dad used to wear. You see, they were very touched by the choir and Hearts cover. Best core ever.
Ann was 62 and Nancy was 58 when they performed this, about six months later Heart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some Heart songs you may have heard were Magic Man, Barracuda, Alone, Crazy on You, These Dreams. This was the edited version that aired on CBS, there was a full version out there with more verses and more reactions from LZ. I recommend watching the live version of Crazy on You from I think the late 70’s or early 80’s, it begins with a killer guitar solo by Nancy.
I've watched this video dozens of times and reactions to it about the same. This is amazing! I've also watched interviews with Ann and Nancy about this performance too. I know from articles and interviews that Zeppelin was a big influence on them as well. Lastly I saw them in 1977 and they closed their set with Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" dedicated to the King, Elvis Presley on the day we all found out he passed away.
Since they began in the 70s, Heart has been one of the best Led Zeppeling cover bands on earth, in addition to their own incredible music! Saw them live in '78 and they encored with "Rock and Roll."
I like the fact that the link you used had the introduction of Jason Bonham in it because some of the versions do not. But there was a lot of pieces of the song edited out in this version of the video. There is probably a longer one that plays the complete song. I enjoyed the reaction though.
I honestly thought you saw this already. the look on Robert, John and Jimmy's faces is priceless. I've always have been a huge heart fan too. Sad to say that this is an edited version. Bummed. A lot was cut out. Look for the full version and watch on your time. Peace out bro.
I was fortunate enough to catch this when it first aired. I’ve seen it about 50 times since. Anytime someone reacts to it, I must watch. Got to see Heart perform it live in concert a few summers ago, just before Covid hit.
I absolutely love this performance, I have been watching it for several years. Heart is such a great band, you should definitely react to some of their songs. The members of LZ took Jason under their wing, made sure he had everything he needed, paid for his education, etc. Truly, they were there for him every step of the way.
I am fortunate to say, I remember the very 1st time this song was played here on FM radio in NY when it came out. While it is the most overplayed song for me, and I rarely, if ever listen to it anymore, THIS VERSION gives it a whole new life. I will tear up each and every time I hear it, and watching the video... seeing Jason look up to the sky at the end... I will always lose it completely.
Robert Plant wanted Jason to sit with them but he said he had a previous engagement he couldn't get out of. Thats why Robert pointed at him at the beginning
Recognizing that Stairway to Heaven is one of the best songs of all time, I was never crazy about it. It just didn't do it for me. I only say that so you know where I'm coming from when I say this was one of the top live performances of any song that I've ever seen. I purchased the song immediately after seeing the video for the first time.
Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul . . . moved to tears! John Bonham's son, Jason . . . A lovely tribute!!!! The 60's-70's were so wonderful -- to grow-up immersed in so much great music, bands, and TRUE artists!

The reason Page jumped up & shook his finger at Jason when he was introduced was that the band had invited him to be with them to honor his dad.... he told them sorry, I'd like to but I have a gig I can't cancel... 😹
A High School in New Zealand did Heart's version of 'Stairway To Heaven' for their school concert. It went viral on RUclips. Check out St Andrew's 'Stairway To Heaven' - it's really good!

Couldn't have chosen a better band to do Zeppelin than Heart, they've done Zep songs before, and JPJ has worked on some of their albums. Jason filled the shoes of his father quite well , but it took 3 guitarists to cover Page's work. Plant is Jason's Godfather, and helped him along after his father's passing.
The only band that should be allowed to cover Zeppelin. The two bands have had a relationship for a very long time. Heart's done a lot of covers masterfully and were even nicknamed "little Led Zeppelin" (they weren't happy about that lol). Specifically, JPJ has worked with them a lot, and the look on his face says to me that he didn't expect anything less from them. Robert said in an interview recently that they had made the song everything he envisioned. Definitely one of the greatest performances ever. And Heart is a rabbit hole you want to go down.
