  • I get a B12 + B-complex injection every 2-4 weeks.
    Most US adults are consuming sufficient B-vitamins from supplements, and to a lesser extent from diet. The nutrient quality of processed foods is questionable at best, but taking a multivitamin daily will give you a sufficient amount of B-vitamins on paper. But this does not really work out in practice, because oral vitamins have to get absorbed from the digestive tract in order to enter the blood stream. This absorbtion rate decreases with age. GI issues like IBD, Crohn’s Disease, UC, Celiac Disease and others further impair absorption of nutrients and vitamins. Dietary restrictions like a vegan diet can also affect the availability of vitamins in diet and the absorption from supplements. Furthermore oral multivitamin supplements will contain a synthetic form of vitamin B6 called pyridoxine, and this can actually cause a B6 deficiency under certain circumstances that I will explain in the video.

    I just gave myself a b12 injection and a b complex injection. I cannt believe how much the b complex was so uncomfortable. It was like a tetanus shot!

      Yes, it’s the alcohol preservative. I believe that is quite irritating in the B complex. I would mix the B12 with B complex together as it will decrease that stinging upon injecting it.

    What could it mean when you start supplementing with B12 with OTC pills (Complex-50) or the methyl liquid form (also OTC level), and then the next time you take a blood test, your B12 level is significantly higher/outside the normal range? Also, this person knowing the blood test was coming, did not supplement within 48 hours of the test and so should have urinated any excess B12 out. Does one need to stop supplementation for a full week before a blood test? Is the methyl form not recommended unless you have the bad MTHFR gene? Is staying within the normal range not necessary so long as one's not too low? Or could there be a health problem here - I know there are rare conditions a person may have but what is the most likely cause of the high level? Is it common to find a person above the range if they supplement at all?

      From Harvard Health Publishing:
      ‘Supplements. Even the lowest doses in B12 supplements are many times the recommended dietary allowance. Doses up to 1,000 mcg, though unnecessary, aren't harmful.’
      Cobalamine comes in different forms. Methylcobalamine, cyanocobalamin, and hydroxycobalamine. Supplementing with vitamin B12 can cause elevated levels for many weeks. This is not necessarily dangerous. Unlike vitamin B 6, vitamin B 12 overdoses have not frequently been reported in the literature.

      Is it true that a high b12 serum level can be a sign that adsorption intracellular is deficient? I’ve got malabsorption, I take HCL levels are 1600 + with other deficiencies including zinc, pancreatic insufficiency, hypoglycaemia, doctors are not very knowledgeable of mitochondrial functions. Too many symptoms overlapping.
      Thankyou for this information 🙏

    As a 61 year old with chronically low blood level , knowing I have insufficient stomach acid( taking Betaine HCI) I eat grass finished beef, organic eggs, etc, but I still supplement with methocobalamin, as I’ve heard the injection form is cyanocobalamin, any truth to that?,as I’m considering getting injections. Thanks for your informative contents!

      There are both methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin injections available. While there are some advantages to methylcobalamin in terms of usability, both will increase B12 levels sufficiently.

    My Husband has sciatica nerve issues , could taking B6 help him. He is in a lot of pain, he works out a lot and now he can’t . Please advise if you can, thank you 😊 from LA 🌴

      Sciatica usually is a condition where the sciatic nerve is compressed, and a vitamin injection will usually not fix this. It could be a muscle spasm or other impingement that needs to be addressed.

      I have gone to chiropractors for a similar condition before with good relief. Cryotherapy can also help.

    Do sintetic vitamin B hinder natural ones?

    • @JonasKuehneMD
      @JonasKuehneMD  8 месяцев назад +1

      Synthetic vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, can, in some people, block the uptake of peroxyl-5-phosphate, especially if they consume pyridoxine in large amounts.

    You shouldn't do intramusular. It's totally unnesseccary and painful. Subcutaneous with an insulin needle is sufficient. you're welcome. LOL
