- We've teamed up with our friends down under from@carsguide to test drive the all-new BMW i4. The version we had on test was the eDrive 40 which has over 335bhp and up to 590km range. The larger eDrive 50 will come with over 500bhp going to all four wheels, we have no doubt that will be a show stopper!
To drive day to day, the BMW i4 is very similar to the ordinary 4-series. It is spacious and feels quite normal to drive when in comfort and in eco pro. Once you switch the driving mode to 'Sport' it's a completely different character. It is very precise around corners and being an EV the power is instantaneous!
The new i-drive system is very impressive, and whilst it's ever so slightly more complicated than the previous version, it is very responsive and has amazing graphic quality.

Thoughtful of you to consider the older driver when talking about the iDrive system. Coming from a conventional 5 series with analog instruments, it's going to take me a while to learn the new instrumentation, let alone the menus and options on the larger screen. When I took the i4 for a test drive, the only thing I looked at, apart from the road, was the HUD, and I wouldn't want the car without that option.

Have HUD in my 2019 540i and never use it. Good thing because it is invisible with polarized sunglasses.
