BEST tutorial on ERUPTION I'VE seen and heard. When the tapping section starts, "EDDIE" taps the 14th fret (C#), releasing to 2nd fret, then hammer to 5th fret ( on the B string) and THEN continues with 9th fret to 2nd fret to 5th fret... 7 more times, before moving his tapping finger to the 10th fret. Listen to original, slow it down to 25% and you'll hear that 14th fret C# at the very beginning of the tapping section. "EDDIE" was LIGHTENING FAST & ACCURATE with VERY POWERFUL FINGERS!!!
Amazing lesson! I’m light years away from being able to play it, but you broke it down into smaller parts that are much less overwhelming than other lessons I’ve seen!! Thank you!! I’m definitely subscribing to your channel! Thanks for the work you put into creating this video!!🙂🙂🙂BTW, you are an excellent teacher! You made this lesson fun!
I luv the fact that it's Eddie. BUT,you made it your own kiddo.Always an Innovator, never an imitator. God bless brother.Luv peace and chicken grease. lol. your killing it! Mom and eddie are proud. Again,God bless bro.
Thanks for this! I love that you simplified the most iconic coolest solo ever! I learned it once a almost perfect… 15 years ago but slightly changed over the years to my own thing. And I honestly wasn’t playing it right lol you rock brother 🤘🏼
Sounds killer bro ! Listening to Eddie’s isolated track .. your playing and lesson is fucking absolutely 💯 👍 .. the rhythm of the licks are Amazing ! Thanks bro .
You've' done a terrific job figuring this solo out man. Just one issue I have, and that's that when you teach it, your "slow down" examples aren't done to a steady tempo, you have a habit of getting choppy with your slow-downs and this has the result of causing the learner to not quite get it, after the break downs of the sections. This is especially relevant in section 5. We the learners need the slower example to be fluid and in tempo in order to really "visualize" and hear how it really goes. Sorry if this seems critical, I know you put a lot of effort into teaching this, and it's appreciated. I used to have the same passion as you do when figuring out solos when I was your age. As the person "figuring out" the solo, it's easier to conceptualize the whole thing in your own head-space while you're working on it, but then there comes a point after you've broken it down where you need to do that in a slower tempo. This is where imagination comes in for the learner...imagining what the whole or the section of the solo sounds like at a tempo slow enough to work on the skill aspect. Sorry about the rant. I realize no one ever does a perfect video all the time, so again, sorry about being critical.
AND Ur absolutely CORRECT about the "2nd Half" of the solo, starting just after the silence. The ATTACK has to be ACCURATE and CLEAN, otherwise it will sound MUDDY... and the "punch effect" will be LOST!! The point of that section was to catch the audience OFF GUARD! The ATTACK is like a SLAP in the "EARS" by "EDDIE" saying, "HEY... I'm not finished yet. KEEP LISTENING!" 😂 The man was BRILLIANT!!
"A Slide From Nowhere" Band name? 7 to the 5 pulloff on the 3 hammer on the 9 tap on the 25 or 6 to 4 skip to the Lou my darlin'! 🤣🤣🤣 This is AMAZING! It's amazing that you can slow it down to teach it. Brilliant! Where's your PayPal? 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Most ofTabs eruption are crap. This is much better to learn. Tabs won't guive us the feeling. I've learned my version on soundslice but with your video, i confirmed you're are right. Congrats for the pacience. 🙏🙏🙏🖤🤘🤘🤘
great video, I like that you play at tempo then show us slow, i woud also like to hear the Phrase fast after showing us slow just to put it into context. Im not saying anything bad about you.. almost every tutorial does the same on you tube. Thanky You for this video
Hi Josh, I used to play Eruption but I haven't in a few years and I forgot some parts, but honestly I don't remember ever being able to replicate any kind of solo exactly note for note. I don't know how you feel but it's like my fingers either don't want to do or can't do some riffs. I played a lot of covers but all the solos were always 90% original and 10% me. Take care. Mike.
I don’t think it’s possible to play certain things 100% like the record but putting in the effort like you can and then adding your own flavor is what I encourage.
On the tapping section, the hardest part is keeping the noise from the open G string muted. Some seem to say that you simply palm mute the lower strings with your right hand. But this introduces issues with string noise as you move your right hand up the neck. Then when you get far enough up the neck, too much pressure causes the lower strings to hit your neck pick-up and make more noise. It just seems to me that the actual tapping/left hand fretting is the easy part. The hard part is keeping all of the noise suppressed, but nobody ever addresses that in any detail…🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️...
I’d have to have a guitar in my hand to really be honest, I’m at work at the moment but I believe when I tap I use the palm of my tapping hand to mute the strings that I don’t want to hear unwanted noise from.
Joshua Jones, incredibly close to Eddie but not as close as Deraps who is the closest player I have heard compared to peak van Halen in the late 70's, both in playing ability and sound.
@@JoshuaJonesGuitar Im not making a direct comparison of you to Deraps, I'm comparing you both to Eddie which is fare to do since you have both played Eddie's tunes as close as you possibly can to his sound. You're both incredible but imo he is the closest to EVH in terms of tone and playing feel ive seen/heard anywhere.

Haha yeah I never did announce it now that I think about it
Killer man! When you see old tabs back in the day it doesn’t represent it like you are putting all of this together. Thank you.
Your pick attack is so aggressive man. I love it. That's like 80% of the VH sound. Awesome stuff man. You're an animal lol!
💯 % bro !
That tab synced to the album version is VERY helpful. Thank you! Your awesome as always
Thank my friend Ed DeGenaro…he entered my transcription into Soundslice!

You are 100% correct about section 5. I've been trying for years to figure that part out. Well done!!

What if we slowed down Josh’s video to 1/2 speed in those “choppy” sections you described ? Would that help hearing the notes better ?
@@captnsethat’s what I figured most people would do! This solo is definitely not for beginners to try and tackle
This video has been out for one second but I can already tell this is a great analysis from a great player, thanks a lot!
When I’m ready to learn this I will definitely come here. Thank you for taking time to do this
Thanks Joshua! Hoping for tons of views and more subscribers! You always inspire me to try the complex stuff... !

Great job Joshua! You are a fantastic guitar player. Keep pursuing your dreams and making more Van Halen videos please.

I love your tone! And your vibrato!! What is your signal path to get this tone?
Good video I'll come back to it in another 4 years of playing when I can probably actually do it
Freaking badass awesome job and very helpful lots of insight
Dude ! New Sub. Game Over. What !
I want that guitar so bad! That’s the same one he played with in his 14 minute ERUPTION solo!
Damn easier then I thought thanx kept getting caught up on pinch never did that well I will practice that move solid!!!!!!

Awesome job by the way dude🤟🔥

You always remember where you were when you first heard this solo ❤😁 This is fantastic. Can I ask what sound set up you are using?
This vid it’s the axe fx and two notes cab!
He goes so slow unlike some people witch makes it easier to learn
What about your guitar?’ Which model is this? Did you route the neck pickup??
Sick man
The quick flex he did before doing the actual solo
My reaction was 😮💨 what a jerk.....

Man, I just cannot palm mute and tremolo pick at the same time for the opening passage of the 2nd section. Any advice?
Thank you! 😁
Amazing performance! Any practicing tips?
I'd love to know what the repeats on the delay are. And are you running a phase 90? Cause it sounds killer!!
I don’t think I ran into a phase 90 on this. I’m not a fan of that pedal actually haha
What chords did Eddie play in the intro of his live show
