In this episode of Car Trek Series 5, AutoTempest challenges the guys to find out how fast their cars can go on a mile long runway, that regularly sees jets achieve 150mph. Ed's Lamborghini LP640 is technically the right car for the job, but it's not exactly firing on all cylinders. Tyler's SLS AMG has the least cylinders, but has the most technology. And Freddy's Aston Martin DBS is more burnout machine than track star, so it's anyone's race.

True, specially since that was totaly free BS... Steels one brakes equally fine, (unless you are tracking and keep on doing massive breaking over and over in a short period of time) they just don't last as long
@@romrig4648 That's a fair point actually... The CC brakes only provide a performance advantage in repeated use and actually don't work as well for street use because they rely on heat to be most effective.
It was funny, but an unfair dig. Not to mention Ed kinda cheated a bit. 😳
I think he just underestimated how heavy that car actually is and maybe new brake pads or something? I've never seen a car take that long to stop from that speed😂
May be the SLS has the same stupid SBC brake system that came in the R230 and W211which is spongy and not that effective as a traditional Mercedes ABS system, I experienced the difference in both systems myself.

yes I did 260kph (indicated) on my Honda VTR1000f riding the Austrian Autobahn with fine money in my pocket LOL, bike was solid as a rock...

2001 Civic Type R would definetly overtake Freddy, and definitely outbreak Mercedes, and definitely outlive Lambo on reliability. And tops them all of on practicality
I occasionally max mine out at 304 on the Autobahn (that is 190 in the British unit). GPS, not speedo. At that speed, my Carrera gets a little soft, but the speeds shown here are nothing special at all.
On tonight's show. Ed procrastinates to save his tractor, Tavarish salivates on an aircraft, and Tyler wishes he had invested in ceramic brakes at V1.

@@robertper4102 Drivetribe is their future. Though they still make specials of the Grand Tour. Given the success of Car Trek, I don't see why there can't be a monumental crossover. That would be bigger than Family Guy and The Simpsons! The reason Top Gear struggled to find it's feet again was a lack of chemistry between presenters, the same with US Top Gear which I loved too. Ed, Tyler weeeeens and Tavarish have that chemistry and no doubt a bigger combined following than any TV programme managed.

Best way we can support is to like subscribe and promote the series which will I help them get traction where there market is. Also I do agree with part of what you said when US viewers visit the site.
@@idealist420 it doesnt make a difference, clicks are clicks regardless of what country they are from. Autotempest gets paid to show ads from all sorts of different websites, ebay motors, hemmings, etc. This means they get paid per click rather than sale as you dont buy from them.

I GO THERE to check the prices of international markets which is the US market in this case, its just really nice to see how cheap some cars are in that market. Anyways me visiting never ever helped or helped me find any products to buy on it, if it had any ads, for like local car care products or anything that can be shipped would've. This is actually a good idea for them.

Some trivia: in the opening shot (1:19 or so) they are standing on a compass rose painted by the Ninety-nines, an organization for women pilots. I watched my mom and other women pilots paint a few on runways around Texas. Someday maybe I'll find the old VHS video I shot of Mom flying acrobatics. If you have a sister, wife, daughter, niece, granddaughter, or just know someone of the female persuasion who is showing an interest in things automotive or mechanical, please do everything you can to foster and support that. Our hobbies will be the better for their participation.

I love the idea of getting their first cars again. It’s so much more interesting when it’s not the same old supercars. Can’t wait to see what trash they end up with. Freddy is the only one who can actually fix his own car too so it should get interesting

That Lambo makes such an amazing sound. It still has my heart, though Tyler's SLS was surprisingly fast.
Big congratulations to the whole Car Trek team! The pacing, editing, music and of course the presenters have gotten better and better with every season.

Tyler's SLS sounds absofreakinlutely AMAZING!!! Sounds like a quieter, unmuffled race car when it blasts by. I love the scream of a V12, but the rumbling sound of a muscular V8 is REEEEEALLY hard to beat!

When Freddy said that they had arrived at the Flying Barons Airfield in my hometown of Leesburg, Florida. It reminded me of a bit of history that stuck with me for all the wrong reasons. Way back in March of 1982. The Flying Barons airstrip was the scene of one of Rock musics greatest tragedies. This was where the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osborne, Randy Rhoads tragically died in an airplane crash after clipping the bands tour bus. I am able to remember that day because it was also my brother's 32nd birthday. Both he and I were Ozzy fans and it was a somber day, to say the least.
The three of you are living your best lives. Thank you for making us feel apart of your adventures. It's time for your own show on prime time.
