    My simple yet effective but not so efficient is the humble aluminium foil. Just wrap it around between the bottom and the base of the flash to make contact with the inner side of the shoe. And bingo, it works every time. No sanding, no scrapping. Remember, pay attention to the shoe, there is a part with no paint on left and right side

    Thank you so much for posting this! I was getting a little worried that my A6000 wasn't going to work with my flashes. But a little sandpaper did the trick. You rock!

    bought the black a6000 tried my flash guns 2 nikons and a canon worked straight off for 4 or 5 flashes then stopped took camera back tried display model in shop worked so they gave me a new camera tried flash on it before taking home seemed to work fine. got home tried again dead.watched your "repair videos" for hot shoe I had tried to take some paint off first camera with out making it look too obvious, thats how I got it replaced for a new one. took second camera back got a refund and ordered chrome version looks so much better and flash works fine. easy answer don't buy black one.

      from pictures it seems the (dark) gray one has black paint on the hotshoe as well, so I guess the silver one might be the best bet

    Rene Maurin - Check out this video ruclips.net/video/WdQKg8V8hzk/видео.html Let me know if this helps. You maybe pushing the flash on too far. As for the i40 I think it just broke. I had one do that.

    I worked for me with the yongnuo RF-600TX.
    The first day worked fine and then stopped working, so I sandded papper the rails and pushed up the lateral springs (without this step it was not working) and is working again.
    Thaks Lavikka P.

    Here's a tip - although I'm an audio guy, should work on photo as well..... DeoxIT Gold Guard will preserve contacts from corrosion and improve conductivity. PAY ATTENTION - the "secret" to getting Gold Guard to work best, is to apply as little as humanly possible. Also, I don't put it where I don't need it - e.g. never on faders, pots, etc. I just use it to treat my audio cable connections (very sparingly) and have been pleased with the results. Your mileage may vary.

    You Sir, are a HERO. I was getting immensely frustrated trying to figure out how to set up OCF on my a6000 without having to invest in a Phottix Odin system (which may not have worked reliably either given the nature of this apparent manufacturing defect), and now I can! Props!

    Do not sand down your hot shoe. This will void the warranty, at least in Canada it will. MTC (Manufacturing & Technology Centre) at 1-877-779-9929 and Sony tech support Canada at 1-877-899-7669 are no help. If you dispute your issue, MTC will get you to call tech support, tech support will assign it to customer relations (No call ID), and customer relations will just back up MTC. Its a phone labyrinth and every time they transfer to a department they tell you to expect a call within 48 hours. They will find any excuse they can to not repair your unit under warranty. They also make the ridiculous request of getting you to send in all flash units you've tried on the a6000 to MTC for troubleshooting, i don't know anyone in the right mind who would do that.

    I've had the same wireless triggers and flash for a while, but couldn't get the two working together. I've got the silver A6000, so I've never had any issues with paint. Should I pry the leaf springs up? Would that get it to work? What settings should I have on the flash to get it working?

    Hey,
    I have serious problems with a Sony A7R II flash firing and wonder if you have any ideas about that.
    So it went ...
    I started using a Nissin i40 with the camera and after some 5 or 6 sessions it started behaving oddly. It ended up with the flash not firing at all, whether via camera or manual off camera triggering ...
    Sent it back to the shop.
    Then I borrowed an old Nikon SB24 from a friend ... On his Nikon, it worked flawlessly but when I put in on the A7R II it again will not fire. More than that, just as the little Nissin i40 it stopped responding to any triggering including of camera via the glowing red ready light ...
    Now I ready conflicting info about using old flashes in A7 series. Some report no problems (including the Nikon SB 24) and others talk about the need of shaving the plastic hot shoe in order to be parked deep enough into the sled ...
    Now I am wondering is it possible for the camera to kill speedlights or is it a multishoe
    issue?
    Thanx in advance.
    R.

    Thanks for the video - Does the NEX7 have the same hotshoe as the A6000 as I'd like to do the same thing to it. I'd like to put Yongnuo TX controller on it for the 560iii fladh.

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  9 лет назад

      The NEX cameras have the older hot shoe but you can put an adapter on it to go from Sony Alpha to Sony Multi-interface If you have Canon flashes then you will want to go from Sony Alpha to a Canon TTL adopter for the NEX.

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  9 лет назад

      I doubt it will be an a7000. It was a fabricated rumor. Most likely if you look at the progression of things it will be an a6100. I don't expect leaps and bounds just better evf and 4k video with hopefully audio ports and hopefully an unpainted hotshoe . Anyway no and no. I've been bugging Phottix. as they have the odin transmitter. I want to know if that works across platforms.

    Hi there, I have a Yongnuo 560 III and also the a6000. I cleaned off the rails but when when I mount the flash the signal indicator on the flash goes red and it wont fire. But when I switch on the flash and then mount it it goes half way and fires, then goes red. Also the flash wont switch on when mounted on the camera.

      If you have the canon version then you may need the Travor adapter. Canon mount flashes seem to have issues on the a6000.

  • @davewyman
    @davewyman 9 лет назад

    I've got an ancient, 2 AA battery flash made by Rollei. It's got an auto and manual setting. It slides firmly into the hot shoe. As it slides in, if I've powered on the flash, it goes off.
    However, it never goes off when I release the shutter. I've sanded the rails and pried them up a bit. Will the A6000 only work with certain flashes? Are there camera settings I'm missing?

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  9 лет назад

      The camera should be on flash+fill in the settings. I'm just wondering if the center pin is lining up correctly. You may need a travor adapter if its not. Keep in mind auto thyrister flashes require more voltage to fire then digital flashes.

    • @davewyman
      @davewyman 9 лет назад

      Lavikka Photography - thanks - the little flash works on my Nikon D600, so it's some sort of contact issue. The fact the flash fires when I'm inserting it (if it's on) and then doesn't work with the release of the shutter, despite my moving the flash around in the hot shoe, makes me think there's something else going on.
      My workaround is to pull the flash back and to bounce the light off my business card (which isn't particularly white, with my business info all over it). It works as well as a ring flash. However, it's awkward if I'm I'm handholding the camera.
      I just googled the travor adapter. Is there a generic model that works with any flash? I'd like to give it a try.

    Lavikka Photography I really like your videos! I have a few questions. I'm fairly new to photography and I have an A6000. I want to get a flash for weddings and eventually portrait photography. My issue is I don't know a lot about flashes in particular and my father has some flashes that do mount onto my unit, but they don't work. I think he bought some Neewer flashes. Would I need to fix the hot shoe as shown here to make them work or would I do better buying a flash? If so what should I get?
