      @@PMRTV Hi I'm looking for some advice ! i currently own a Nikon D800 and I'm looking to switch to mirrorless, I'm on a budget so will be selling the Nikon to fund the purchase. Do you think the A6000 still stands up today in 2022 and good enough for non professional weddings/portraits that i do ?
      many thanks

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  2 года назад +1

      @@scottwesterman221 I'd have to say, no. But the a6100 has a much better sensor, more accurate eyeAF, and in every way beats out the a6000 in quality terms. But I think you may really want to save a few more $ and get at least the a7III. Full frame is where all the marbles are in Sony. If you build a system based on an aps-c sensor, you will only have to change all your lenses out in the future when you make the move to FF. Better to wait and make that move first, IMHO.

    i am a novice and your video (with a few minor changes) helped me shoot the Vancouver Women's Grand Prix on the 15th July 2015. my a6000 is set to superior mode and with your help i got some of my best shots ever using the 16-50mm kit lens. next on list is the FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS. Pat, I have watched many other videos by photographers who have made the leap to the a6000 and you have done a great job explaining the basics of sport shooting with the a6000. When I made the leap about a year ago, when the camera first came out, it was only going to be a second (or third) camera in my bag. I got it as a back up to my Canon kit ( 5DmIII and almost every piece of L glass made). Today, I don't own any Canon gear. Nothing! I have owned or still own many Sony cameras including the a7, a6000, a5100, NEX6, NEX5r, as15, as30, as100, HX50, HX300 and RX10. IMHO the a6000 and the RX10 (completely different cameras, used for different reasons) are the most fun to shoot with. I just love what Sony is doing and can't wait until the next edition of the Sony "a" line. Again, great job.... Mike, from TizzyLish Photography

    Just wanted to thank you for your professional look and experience using the A6000. I'm a landscape photographer that carries the Canon 6D and 7D MK II as a backup landscape/sports/pet photo camera. This week I ordered the A7r II, to replace the 6D. After watching your video, I'm either going to wait for the A7000 or just buy the A6000 and sell my 7D MK II.

    Greetings, thank you sincerely for your time to help us dads who are trying to take sports pictures. I bought the A6000 a month ago after a lot of research to shoot my sons sports. Started on the tail end of basketball season (indoors) and now baseball. Was so disappointed after viewing the shots from last nights game. The burst shots of a throw to 3rd had my son and base runner blurred and everything else in perfect focus under the lights. Your video explained settings to consider which I never would have figured and I can't wait to test at this Saturdays game. Thank you again........

      Remember also that the new A6500 got a big buffer. You can shoot almost unlimited jpegs at 11 fps and stop and start at will while the camera is buffering. It's a great new feature that makes the Sony's more like Canikon for sports shooting for sure.

    Hi,
    Excellent video from someone who knows about sport photography very well. Furthermore your explanation is very clear and concise.
    One suggestion please you should follow up this video with another video showing a few examples how you use this custom setting and a few variations to them. That would be very invaluable to beginner like myself.

Unfortunately, Here in Brazil we haven't got many options when it comes to camera sytems at least in the city I live in. Even paying a lot more I will get the new Sony a6300 which is an improvment to the alrady powerful a6000. Loved the video.

    These were very helpful tips. You drove home the point for me that I need to think about what I am shooting and set my menus accordingly. The settings that work best for shooting my grandkids at play are not optimal for shooting racing videos at my local dirt track. It's logical when I think about it, and you made the point for me. Thanks!

      It's a great question and I think it deserves a new video looking back at the A6000 and how it compares to the A6300 and A6500. In short though, as long as what you want to shoot is happening in daylight, the A6000 is a fine camera that compares well with other bodies costing as much as 4x it's current price.

    Because of YOUR VIDEO and other 'sensible reviews' by 'qualified reviewers', I'm buying a Sony a6000 this Feb. 26, 2019, for $639.00 with the kit lens included. For street photography, small product tabletop photography. I have owned everything from large format film cameras like Sinar and Cambo 8X10 / 4X5 FORMAT, medium formats like Mamiya RB67, Hasselblad and 35mm Canon, Nikon film and digital cameras. I am a retired professional and I wanted the form factor of the Sony a6000 and the interchangeable lenses that are available. I NIXED the purchase of the Sony RX100 M3 and the LUMIX LX100 big hands vs small grip. Yes, they are pocketable but the a6000 actually feels like a very compact DSLR and works and shoots like one. I don't care about 4k it's not necessary - buy a REAL video camera if it means that much to you but keep the a6000;. I will also be purchasing the newer model when it's released. Bigger is not always better, you don't attract attention on the street and you're not being eyeballed by security in a mall. People don't feel intimidated and that is what it is all about. Go back in time and google the great 35mm film shooters and check out their work. Completely manual and gangbuster images. Sony is King and Nikon, Canon, are scrambling for market share right NOW IN 2019. DSLR sales are sliding downward because of the miracle mirrorless, Fuji is ok but I'm a DSLR Sony shooter also and now my FAV is going to be the a6000. I've tested 6 various Brands/models and the a6000 meets the price point and feature set to fulfil 90% of your needs. YAY SONY.

    Great video, Pat! ...and quite helpful in finalizing my settings for sports and action on my a6000. Also, good to see you posting vids here on YT, as I've been following Gary Fong's excellent instructional videos and find we need more input from pros such as you.
    Question: For AF Track Speed and Duration, my assumption was (due to the movie icon next to the setting) that this was only applicable to video. So, you are saying that these settings also affect continuous shooting for stills, as well?
    Idea: Save your sports shooting settings to Memory 1 or 2 on the a6000.

  • @rickj8859
    @rickj8859 9 лет назад +4

    Perhaps worth mentioning, that if you are crossing over to Sony A6000, from Nikon, or Canon DSLR, you can ratain most of your expensive Canon, or Nikon DSLR lenses and carry on using them with A6000 . These are many third party adapters and accessories, that will allow you to use virtually all of old DSLR bits and pieces.

      Outstanding! You have just made my week!!! I'm a new amateur photographer- lots of sports photography, specifically soccer. Just got the Sony a6000 this week for my birthday. • @rickj8859
      @rickj8859 9 лет назад

      +Hoggdoc The cheaper range of adapters (as little as £8.00 / $12.00 ?) will work in manual focus and Aperture priority mode. Which is not bad. Plus the cheapest adapters are still all metal. I haven't seen any autofocus Olympus to Sony E mount adapters, but the ones made for Nikon and Canon lenses, (3rd party adapters) cost £50.00 to £70.00 and they seem to retain full a/f lens functionality. Olympus adapter for Sony E mount cameras came out fairly late, so I am quite certain, that if the a/f adapters are not available now, they will come out soon. The great thing about this system is, that you can buy some excellent old manual telephoto lenses, for next to nothing and use them with this camera in aperture priority mode, with the "focus peaking", which for sports photography, is probably more accurate and faster than autofocus. If you do close ups, or portraiture, you can still use focus peaking with touch screen magnifying glass. You might find that spending £50.00 (to £70.00) on the better quality manual adapter works out better in long run, than spending that money on a lesser quality autofocus adapter.

    Great video Patrick. Really appreciate your take on this powerhouse of a camera. I am planning to try my a6000 very soon shooting a Muay Thai event from ringside (amateurs). Only Sony lens I have is the 16-50 kit lens. An adapter from Canon EF to Sony e mount should be here in the next day or so. Thinking the 50/1.8 will be the choice for now. Lighting is always poor - outdoors / night for this one. Better to use manual settings with AWB and Auto ISO or go shutter priority? Have not yet used this little beauty for sports. Trying to break in to MMA- Muay Thai, boxing photography. Also what would be your choice for a lens used at ringside for these types of events? I am leaning towards the 55MM. I would like very much for the a6000 to be my "goto" for sports.

    • @sjsphotog
      @sjsphotog 9 лет назад +1

      Bill Merritt When I watch MMA on TV it seems the photographers that are right up again the cage are using something like a 24-70mm equivalent (in 35mm Full Frame). but if you are in the seats you will need at least about 75-200mm the 50mm would be 75mm and give you good light performance but you may need more reach. Unless you are right up against the cage you wont be able to blow/blur out the cage though and wont look good.

    This has been very helpful in 2020. Looking at putting the 70 tp 200 f2.8 on the a6000 would it be worth tje extra bucks. Sharpness and shutterspeed are important for weatern high speed equestrian photography.

      I shot a lot of images with that exact combo... It works really well. You just go through a ton of batteries!!! a6600 is killer because it uses the same battery as the a9/a9II. Also, using teleconverters with that lens is great too...

    Patrick - thanks --- helpful...I am curious about two items (I scanned the comments and couldn't find them) ---- (1) WHITE BALANCE and (2) ISO. What would you use shooting soccer at night in well lit outdoor stadium, for instance. 4000K? or Auto WB? ISO AUTO or do you boost to 5000 or use the limit? If so, what limit? Thanks -- PS -- it's been 2 years..do you still use the a6ooo (?)....

    Will the same adapter you have on their work with the Nikon lenses?
    If not, wha adapter will be best for the fastest autofocus as I saw some videos where people complain about autofocus and not the full 11fps with the adapters.
    Very good video !!

    • @dr3jk
      @dr3jk 9 лет назад

      The same adapter will not work but there are metabones adapters that allows to mount nikon or canon lens to Sony e monunt. Please be aware that focusing speed is rather slow. The best speed is on native lens and second is for Sony A-mount as this adapter mentioned on the video has its own SLT focusing system (it's not using a6000 focusing system).

    Not sure if you would know, but I just bought my first professional camera (Sony A6000) and love it! However, my grandpa told me he has a ton of old Sigma, Praktica, and Minolta lens just sitting on a shelf somewhere and asked me if I wanted them. As you probably can tell, I most definitely do! Though, the problem is I don't know if/where there is old Sigma, Praktica, and Minolta lens adapters for the Sony A6000... Think you might have a clue to where I can purchase some?

      +Chandler Murray just check amazon and ebay--I'm not sure about Praktica but it that was screw mount, adapters are available for as little as $25!

    Thank you for such a great informative video. Since I can't afford the first lens you have would the 55-210 Sony still be good enough for shooting youth soccer?

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  7 лет назад +1

      as long as you have plenty of light, yes. If you are shooting AYSO games on Saturdays, the 55-210 will do a fine job for you. It's when you start shooting high school games after dusk and under lights that the 55-210 would be too slow.

    • @sjsphotog
      @sjsphotog 10 лет назад +2

      Not really since at the telephoto end it's only f6.3 (variable aperture) and you lose to much light and depth of field won't blur out the background to isolate the subject. The 70-200 f4 is the best combo for sports. Save you money to get it.

    Hi, im trying to get into sport photography but unfortunately i do not have lots of $$ I've been using my NEX-5R and went to sony square. They lent me a 70-200g f4, this lens did great but it was all during the day. What challenges would I have shooting indoor track with the 70-200g F4 or would you recommend getting a used batis 85mm and ziess 55 1.8? The batis would be a 127.5mm with stabilization and the 55 1.8 Zeiss would be a 82.5mm but no stabalization. Would the primes work or is the zoom a better choice? (BTW even though the 70-200gm f2.8 is suppose to be compatible with my NEX-5R i have not been able to get one to work with my NEX-5R which is why I'm asking this question)

    Thanks for this video! With your professional use of the a6000, what kind of focusing modes do you use? I am new to the Sony system coming from Pentax. I ran my pentax bodies with regular AF (half press) enabled and had a dedicated AF-cancel button when I wanted to cancel AF for the next exposure. Does the a6000 offer something similar, do you know?

    • @sjsphotog
      @sjsphotog 9 лет назад

      stevey500 I believe you are talking about Back Button AF? A lot of pros use this method to AF a subject instead of using the shutter for both AF and exposure. If so, read this on how to set it up on the a6000: www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53675229

    +AllUpINC Hello my main question should I buy the sony 70-200mm f4 or should I buy the Sony 70-200 f2.8 with a adapter? Does the sony A mount 70-200 F2.8 with and adapter will be fast focus or is better to buy the sony f4. I already own and use the canon 70-200mm f2.8 II IS but it is very slow auto focus.
    Thanks
