How does it feel yo be 84 years old. My great grandmother live to be 91 and my grandmother live also to be 91 as well. My mother only live to be 79. Thank you
I so look forward to Saturday mornings...the information, and the remembering, that is shared here is so enriching and profound. Thank you for staying connected.
As a child my grandmother would do just that, go inside. Her thinking was that we as children would follow her. Only when she knew that a storm was coming, she direct us to find a quiet place be still. She would say, "Do you hear the animals? Because they know to be quiet and still. "
Thank you, @karenhunter and @africanacarr, for all you've done and will do for us. @araispeaks and I recently went to the @freedomcenter here in Cincinnati to see the Harriet Tubman exhibit. We were just looking for a days pass, but we walked out with a family membership.
I was raised with three generations aside from myself. I can smell when rain is coming-but this has been true since I was a child. I grew up in nature living on and off the earth .
Happy Early Birthday Professor Hunter and Dr. Carr. As always Saturday mornings are awesome and needed. Thank you for making space for these conversations.
Pokeno! Grew up watching my aunts, cousins and grandparents play growing up. Many of them are ancestors now but what a blessing it was to have that time with them as a child.
Not to mention that we need the relationships with our brothers and sisters on the African continent. I was going in July, but surgery is making me reschedule. 😭😭
I’ve heard. So many flock there. African Americans are like others mostly interested in creature comforts and what others are doing. Nothing can be done until a social consciousness, a mind for something greater emerges. I have faith that it shall emerge. That is how we advance as human beings to n fits and stalls. Feels rather slow right now! No worries . People on permanent vacay don’t bring the revolution when it’s time has come. But it’s time will come most likely while they’re in Dubai .
The analogy on rain and smelling it was on point! The elders know before it drops it's coming. The younger generation can learn from us as we become elders, but they can also teach from their position in life. Being that they're the most educated ever in America.
I'm 60 and I go in the house, but I want my kids to know and learn what I have accumulated in life's wisdom, but they know what's in the rain; water droplets forming together, condensing causing cloud saturation for example. They're telling us that it's something else in the rain. Columbia University has always been a liberal school, right? Why are they suppressing free speech?
💯%! My mom said the rain changed in size of droplets from when she was a child to her elderly age. She was born in Mississippi in 1928! 👀 As kids in the 70's we use to talk about acid rain! We didn't know much about it, but we heard stories from the media.
My grandmother used to say whenever her right hand itched, “I’m getting ready to get some money.” Without fail she always did. I didn’t understand it and really didn’t believe it UNTIL it started happening to me. 🤔
I'm a grandparent and I love it and I love my grandchild!!! Good grandparents are still here! I love my children, I know why they are who they are. I love my grandchild and I understand how perfect he is. Grandma is still here! We haven't gone anywhere!
Thank you Professor Karen for this much needed clarity and confirmation, when the times draws near I know what my roll will be, I will simply get up and go in the house, if that is selfish than it will just have to be selfish, I will not be in the category of " my knees hurt "and constantly explaining to people who think they know more than me. Professor Karen based on your segments prior everyone already knows which side they intend to stand, for those people who stand with Trump they already know that is what they want to do and for whatever the reason. If the crumbs that fall from the Masters table are sufficient for them, please allow them the crumbs, because if not they will ensure no one gets to the full loaf of bread.
I'll agree with that. Something is shifting in America away from the narrative that corporate media can't control. USC and Columbia Univ. are liberal leaning schools. Looks like the democrats are showing authoritarian vibes. The Claudine Gay take down was started by a Democrat donor! 👀

Growing up down south in lower Alabama 😊 that’s Mobile, AL we always smelled the rain. I loved those short rains that dried up fast. It left this earthy perfume in the air that was very intoxicating.😊
Thank you for E. #215 of ICWC Prof. Hunter and Dr. Carr!! I didn't have the luxury of meeting either maternal or paternal grandparents. But, I thank TMH that my parents were inculcated with all the 'knowledge' of their parents and they generously shared with their children. And, boy, did they share!! Nevertheless, I've always learned from elders with whom I've been fortunate to interact with through the years. I've enjoyed this Class immensely!! THANK YOU for being our guiding force!!👏🏾👏🏾 The 'voices' of our ancestors resonate through you both. 🙏🏾🖤💯
Wow another master class. It was masterful seeing Dr Carr encouraging and uplifting Prof Hunter as you could tell she was distressed due to discussions that was had earlier in the week of people betraying our people. In the long run this is why we have this space to clarify and give the proper perceptive
That...opening...clips.........the second time around watching it...just WOW! And Professor Hunter, I can't wait until we conduct an episode, a show, or a podcast about grandmothers (grandpartents) and their integral role in us becoming who we are.

I was not supposed to find out but my spy got obsessed and confessed such.
Speaking of social workers... Elder Anita Mackey just crossed over to rest with her Ancestors on Tuesday morning at 110 years of age. She was the, sad to say, first African licensed social worker in CA. She wrote laws for social worker licensing and conduct for the state and sat on the board of UC Santa Barbara for decades. In Riverside, CA, I learned to swim in Lincoln Park pool, which was built because of the agitation Elder Mackey's father and other Africans in East Riverside kicked up trying to use the segregated pool at Fairmont Park. Elder Mackey's Dad did the research that showed Fairmont's pool was used the least on Tuesdays, so Africans asked the city counsel for that day for Africans. The city counsel said no, it would cost too much to drain the pool for Wednesdays. Nevertheless, the Eastside Families persisted and got an entire new park and pool built on the Eastside, the African community, where I would learn to swim two generations later. Elders indeed.
I absolutely love this show. Just listened to this episode and it is so nourishing for my soul. I am so frustrated by what Ms. Carr perfectly outlined, AND reassured by Dr. Carr’s response.
My Mother and Father were from Brownsville and Stanton, Tennessee. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1945 with their three children, to live with my Uncle's family of four and Grandmother's family of two. In the same three floor storie house and now in my late seventies I can smell and feel the rain(coming and going).
Being an elder is more that just living long enough to acquire that designation. Being an elder is a practice, that has elements of duty and responsibility. I'm 70, and I love being in the presence of my elders; especially my elders who enjoy putting that duty and responsibility into practice. They are my teachers and I continue to learn from them, as I work at putting my eldership into practice.
I remember my Grandma (Lena Kate Reeves) and other Elders always telling me to keep an eye on the weather whenever anything was heading to outer space. They said there'd be storms and disasters across the world. Watching the floods in Dubia unfold brought to mind the eclipse on April 8th in which NASA launched three rockets, one after another, every 45 minutes. Makes you say hmmmm…my Grandma/Elders were right! Ase’

My grandmother was the one person on this earth who truly loved me unconditionally. I never once in my life felt unloved by her.
As a child my grandmother would do just that, go inside. Her thinking was that we as children would follow her. Only when she knew that a storm was coming, she direct us to find a quiet place be still. She would say, "Do you hear the animals? Because they know to be quiet and still. "
When there was thunder and lightning we were told to turn off the lights, TV, and anything electrical, sit down and be quiet.😊
