      I’ve heard. So many flock there. African Americans are like others mostly interested in creature comforts and what others are doing. Nothing can be done until a social consciousness, a mind for something greater emerges. I have faith that it shall emerge. That is how we advance as human beings to n fits and stalls. Feels rather slow right now! No worries . People on permanent vacay don’t bring the revolution when it’s time has come. But it’s time will come most likely while they’re in Dubai .

    The analogy on rain and smelling it was on point! The elders know before it drops it's coming. The younger generation can learn from us as we become elders, but they can also teach from their position in life. Being that they're the most educated ever in America.

      @user-mx8kk4rd2e 8 месяцев назад +1

      I'm 60 and I go in the house, but I want my kids to know and learn what I have accumulated in life's wisdom, but they know what's in the rain; water droplets forming together, condensing causing cloud saturation for example. They're telling us that it's something else in the rain. Columbia University has always been a liberal school, right? Why are they suppressing free speech?

    Thank you Professor Karen for this much needed clarity and confirmation, when the times draws near I know what my roll will be, I will simply get up and go in the house, if that is selfish than it will just have to be selfish, I will not be in the category of " my knees hurt "and constantly explaining to people who think they know more than me. Professor Karen based on your segments prior everyone already knows which side they intend to stand, for those people who stand with Trump they already know that is what they want to do and for whatever the reason. If the crumbs that fall from the Masters table are sufficient for them, please allow them the crumbs, because if not they will ensure no one gets to the full loaf of bread.

    Speaking of social workers... Elder Anita Mackey just crossed over to rest with her Ancestors on Tuesday morning at 110 years of age. She was the, sad to say, first African licensed social worker in CA. She wrote laws for social worker licensing and conduct for the state and sat on the board of UC Santa Barbara for decades.
    In Riverside, CA, I learned to swim in Lincoln Park pool, which was built because of the agitation Elder Mackey's father and other Africans in East Riverside kicked up trying to use the segregated pool at Fairmont Park. Elder Mackey's Dad did the research that showed Fairmont's pool was used the least on Tuesdays, so Africans asked the city counsel for that day for Africans. The city counsel said no, it would cost too much to drain the pool for Wednesdays.
    Nevertheless, the Eastside Families persisted and got an entire new park and pool built on the Eastside, the African community, where I would learn to swim two generations later.
    Elders indeed.

    Being an elder is more that just living long enough to acquire that designation. Being an elder is a practice, that has elements of duty and responsibility. I'm 70, and I love being in the presence of my elders; especially my elders who enjoy putting that duty and responsibility into practice. They are my teachers and I continue to learn from them, as I work at putting my eldership into practice.

    Some things may be genetic. My Grandmother would say "I can smell the rain coming". This would make me see if I could do the same. If I paid close enough attention I could smell the difference. It had an earthy smell with moisture. I am 78 years of age and can still tell if it is going to rain and my grand and great grands pay attention.

    We do work people to death… we all need a sabbatical and a change of mind on work. Generational shift.

    Dr. Greg Carr asks the question: “How do we get young people to smell the rain?” Made me think of the song “I Can’t Stand The Rain” by Ann Peebles -- ruclips.net/video/SmGig_b2QLI/видео.htmlsi=tUmtGTB86qD5UcIo

    I have heard you ask before, but where is community? We need to work as a collective. We need a group of legal, health, political,educational experts to solidify our current rights, advance our initiatives, and help us move forward. Do we have think tanks? The individual efforts and attempts are not working!

    The loss wisdom of the elders didn't happen in a vacum, in how fast its put in place time and time a gain , the only good thing out of that is the time and time again, meaning it's, the wisdom, fighting with all it's has to stay revalent though this unimagiinal, consonant barrage of unessary injustice of a people right to be here.

    Thank you for this. Education .I used to sing Dixie because of the melody no realizing the meaning of that song. I hope The Battle Hymn of the Republic is not in the some type of undermining ploy by the governance structure.
