For insight towards Rajang (monkey that dehorned the Kirin), he's the equivalent of a Honey Badger who woke up, chose violence, and fights god. He can go into turf wars against Elder Dragons, and will snap the horn again, so they make an effort to avoid him. That fact should tell you how one-sided all the other conflicts, with anything that isn't an Elder Dragon, are... Good news is that you can lure him to a Deviljho (the angry, hungry pickle) and watch King Kong vs. Godzilla.

So the reason why some creatures look similar to one another is because some of them are subspecies to another monster. So you have things like Rathian and then pink rathian. They are the same monster usually just tougher to beat and has some new attacks or element to add to the mix. This also the reason why they will sometimes say that this monster is slightly different. They are talking usually about the other main monster.

Fatalis is such an awesome and terrifying creature. Some terrifying facts about him:
Fatalis destroyed the kingdom of Schrade in a single night
He has an aura that makes every living thing fear him (including other black dragons)
During the fight, he has a super move where he breathes fire over the entire arena and you have to throw up a giant barrier to stop it, and the fire just melts the barrier like butter
It’s said that Fatalis can regenerate from a single scale
Anyone who wears the armor of Fatalis is said to be driven mad and eventually become Fatalis themselves
Fatalis melts the bodies of fallen hunters onto his chest, which hardens and becomes his armor

also another piece of info. A bit unofficial but that you could deduce from official things
Fatalis is evolved enough to be capable of sentience and great intelligence, and thus he could be self aware of what he does it's an atrocity , but doesn't care at all.
As he could be aware of his own existence Fatalis should be capable of having complex emotions like Humans. He could probably feel things like guilt and care for other things, but he simply chooses to hate everything that moves without mercy specially humans.
He is intelligent enough to decide to go against its own biology and decide to stand on his back legs as mockery of humans, literally making impossible to reach its head which is his weak spot.

    • @christiancinnabars1402
      @christiancinnabars1402 2 года назад +42

SrLópez A lot of, if not all, monsters in Monster Hunter have sentience. While some ecology videos hint towards this in the main series, Stories outright confirms it with monsties having a wide range of emotions as well as the wanting to protect their riders.
What sets Fatalis apart is sapience. Human-level intelligence. It is potentially capable of abstract thought, which is why it is commonly depicted as "evil." Using the dubiously canon Great Dragon War as a basis, Fatalis is shown to harbor vengeance against humanity and wishes the extinction of humans and human-like lifeforms as a whole. If any iota of that is true in the series proper, then Fatalis would basically have confirmed sapience and would be undeniably - at least from a human perspective - evil.

    Timestamps and info
2:09 Beotodus, Piscine Wyvern. It’s a blue fish with legs and a fancy horn on its head. It swims through the snow and hunts Popo (lil trunkless mammoth guys).
3:19 Banbaro, Brute Wyvern. A big trex shaped creature with moose antlers, lil hands, and lots of fur. They can use their horns to lift trees or boulders and hurl them. They eat plants and like to drink hot spring water. Very big.
4:16 Viper Tobi Kadachi, Fanged Wyvern, Subspecies. A close relative to the more common Tobi Kadachi. Instead of generating and weaponizing electricity, Viper here can shoot quills that cause paralysis and poison. It’s also much more aggressive.
Subspecies are creatures designated as the same animal but different in some way. Picture an African Elephant and an Indian Elephant. Notably different but still both elephants.
5:33 Nightshade Paolumu, Flying Wyvern, Subspecies. Unlike its pink relative, Nightshade can produce a sleepy gas that makes things pass out. It is also more aggressive than the more common species.
6:28 Coral Pukei-Pukei, Bird Wyvern, Subspecies. Unlike its green cousin, Coral ingests large amounts of water and watermoss rather than mushrooms and nuts. It can’t produce poison, but it can blast water from its tail and mouth like a hose. I can even use its tongue to split the beam of water from its mouth, creating two beams for more area coverage. Also very pretty.
7:16 Barioth, Flying Wyvern. This monster can breathe out a blast of ice from its mouth along with spitting up small icy tornadoes. Its wings and forelimbs are covered in modified scales to give it traction, allowing it to freely run across ice. It also has big fangs for killing things. Unlike the upcoming Nargacuga and Tigrex, Barioth is a proficient flyer.
8:06 Tigrex, Flying Wyvern. Tigrex are nomadic creatures, travelling area to area, though they prefer deserts and hot regions. Tigrex are extremely strong and brutal, running things down with unparalleled stamina. Their powerful jaws can easily snap through any bone. Tigrex can pump them selves with so much adrenaline that they can ignore pain like a broken limb and just keep running. The Tigrex here is seen killing a Radobaan by catching its roll and biting onto the neck, suffocating it. This is similar to how tigers hunt. Due to its lifestyle, it lost the ability to properly fly.
9:43 Nargacuga, Flying Wyvern. Nargacuga is extremely fast and stealthy. Their wings are bladed and sharp and their tails can shoot out sharp quills in rapid succession. It can also stretch slightly to slap people with. Nargacuga is unfortunately incapable of powered flight. It’s a panther dragon.
11:07 Glavenus, Brute Wyvern. Glavenus is a big dinosaur that constantly grows blue ore-like scales on its body. By scraping its tail against the ground or in its jaws like a whetstone, Glavenus can both sharpen and ignite its blade tail like a flaming hot sword. Glavenus has blue armour on its face to prevent sparks from hurting its eyes and facial attacks, and its back is covered in an elaborate pattern of ore-like armour to protect from attacks from other Glavenus. When Glavenus shreds its tail through its mouth, it catches any scraps or bits of scales and stores them in a throat pouch to later spit at opponents or prey as an explosive loogie.
13:16 Brachydios, Brute Wyvern. Brachydios is covered in a natural shell similar to obsidian. It grows and farms a slime mould on its head and arms. Brachy does actually have hands, the pounders on each arm are like very long brass knuckles that grow from the middle knuckle, made to punch things. The slime mould Brachy has shares a symbiotic relationship with it. When the mould is on Brachy, it stays calm and is green. Once Brachydios licks its hands and rubs its head though, it’s saliva acts as a primer for the mould to prepare for reproduction. The mould violently explodes in an attempt to spread its spores. When Brachy punches other monsters or the ground, some of the mould sticks and has a delayed explosion. If he throws a punch hard enough, the slime detonates on impact. The mould gets an easy way to move around and spread and Brachydios gets a strong weapon to kill things with.
15:56 Shrieking Legiana, Flying Wyvern, Variant. Shrieking Legiana is a Legiana with more openings for ice to shoot out of its wings. It’s presumed this is a Legiana that has spent more time in the Hoarfrost Reach, resulting in this change. It may call upon another Legiana to assist it in combat.
Variants are monsters of a species that have gone through some kind of change. This usually results in the monster getting stronger in some way.
17:32 Ebony Odogaron, Fanged Wyvern, Subspecies. This relative of the red Odogaron is a much more aggressive Hunter and generates Dragon Element (an element that can take the form of smoke, electricity, or lasers.) Ebony is ridiculously aggressive and wanders a much wider range of locations. It may sometimes carry around a piece of meat with it to feed on or alternatively charge it up with Dragon Element before spitting at you. Ebony may also try to regurgitate previous meals for the same purpose.
18:27 Acidic Glavenus, Brute Wyvern, Subspecies. Acidic G cannot light it’s tail ablaze like its cousin. Instead it grows toxic green crystals on its tail that can break down armour or defences of opponents and prey. (It applies Defence Down Debuff.) When it has weakened the enemy, it will cleave off all the crystals on its tail with its jaws to sharpen its tail. Unlike normal Glavenus, Acidic’s tail acts more like a katana, the lessened weight giving it a speed boost along with it being overall sharper. Acidic Glavenus is surprisingly nimble for its size.
20:06 Velkhana, Elder Dragon. Mascot of Iceborne. Velkhana is a mysterious and rare Elder Dragon with the ability to generate ice. It can either create crystals to hit you or form body armour for itself. It even can create a spear of ice for its tail to stab things with. Fairly intelligent, very pretty.
20:35 the pixie dust is actually the Hunter’s Scout Flies. These flies help track monsters. If they’re green, they’re tracking a normal average Large Monster. If they turn blue, they realize they’re in the presence of an Elder Dragon. When they turn red, they sense danger and quickly disperse. The Hunter keeps a lamp on them which keeps the flies close by and easier to collect.
21:25 Blackveil Vaal Hazak, Elder Dragon, Subspecies. Unlike other Vaal Hazak, Blackveil’s flesh clothes are covered in a fungus that grows all over it. This fungus helps it more easily spread Effluvium, a microscopic flesh eating bacteria that all Vaal Hazak control and manipulate. Blackveil can spread and create more Effluvium and can also leave the Rotten Vale, making it more dangerous.
22:16 Namielle, Elder Dragon. A big dragon that looks like a hybrid of toms of different underwater creatures. It can blast water out of its mouth and is covered in a water armour. It can also generate electricity to fry you while you’re wet. Very cool, like their fight.
22:58 Seething Bazelgeuse, Flying Wyvern, Variant. You didn’t actually see Bazelgeuse last time because he was a secret monster with no intro. Bazelgeuse grow scales under their chins and tails that they can drop off like bombs that explode. They can carpet bomb things, basically. Seething Bazelgeuse is a much older Bazelgeuse that travels less but has much stronger explosives.
24:57 Ruiner Nergigante, Elder Dragon, Variant. Ruiner is a Nergigante covered in muuuuch stronger spikes. Its main purpose is to track down threats to the ecosystem, like any big time Elder Dragons that may tamper with the Everstream and balance of nature. Extremely aggressive, very durable, spikes galore.
27:48 Shara Ishvalda, Elder Dragon. A monster that can somehow control earth and form a fake body around itself. I wonder what it looks like underneath? ;)
28:01 Yian Garuga, Bird Wyvern. A hyper agreesive territorial psychopath chicken. Yian Garuga can spit fireballs and release a hellish scream. Yian Garuga have excellent hearing and ears that can rotate in a wide range of directions. These guys will fight nearly anything, most of the time they can be found with bodily scars and missing body parts like ears. Also their tail is extremely venomous. We see Garuga fight off a Deviljho here, a monster tough enough to bring down some Elder Dragons.
31:50 Zinogre, Fanged Wyvern. Zinogre is a giant reptilian wolf monster with a symbiotic relationship with Thunderbugs. These insects next in Zinogre’s back fur and spikes. These spikes on its back act like hives. The bugs get a safe place to live and in return, Zinogre can use its howl to call upon them to fight for it or absorb some of their electricity to powerboost itself. Super cool monster, can also kinda go super saiyan.

Honestly it’s a Gore and Shagaru Magala situation if you think about it, since you essentially hunted(story-wise) one only for it to later come back in a matured state. Though this may be spoiling a little for how the Xeno fight ends, but we where left with an ambiguous end prior to Safi’s release so it does fit that line of thought.

So to explain the floating monster I first gotta explain sub-species. Sub-Species are offshoots of monsters that are not only differently colored but possess different abilities but their general appearance is similar enough to another monster it's not an entirely different monster altogether. The Floating Monster is called Nightshade Paolumu it's the sub-species of Paolumu and is known for shooting out a sleeping gas. Now you might be thinking how is sleep useful in monster hunter? In monster hunter anything that's asleep take's double damage from attacks this is often used for strategies to put monsters to sleep and hit them with mega barrel bombs for large amounts of damage. The Rolling monster is Radobaan he was in the intros of World.
What Glavenus did was resharpen it's tail, when the tail is heated it up eventually it'll cool but when this happens it essentially becomes dull. So the Glavenus will put it's blade tail in it's mouth and resharpen it's tail again.
Brachydios is an extremely famous monster as it introduced the slime/blast element, the green stuff on it's arms and head is a special slime that explodes either after a certain amount of time or when Brachydios slams it's fists really hard at someone. Brachydios are extremely aggressive and are willing to pick fights with other monsters. As for Blast element technically it's existed since Teostra was introduced but it wasn't used as a player usable element till Brachydios.
The monster with the moss on it's body is called Blackveil Vaal Hazak, it's a variant of Vaal Hazak. Variants are similar to sub-species in that they are a different species of the same monsters but Variants are rarer and possess unique abilities that make them more than just a sub-species. In the case of Blackveil it's covered in moss, this moss actually renders it blind but the substance from the moss allows it to 'sense' a person or monsters location.
The water Elder Dragon is Namielle and is one of the more well designed monsters, and my most favorite Elder Dragon. You can't see it's body well in the intro but if you see some fights you'll notice how it's body bears many parts similar to deep sea fish. The reason why everything went 'dark' is because one of it's abilities was to emit an ink that was so pitch black it blots out the very sun.
The big flying Wyvern is called Seething Bazlegeus, Bazelgeuse is a monster introduced in World and is a very infamous monster. Bazelgeuse is unique for a few things, one is it's ability to fly despite it's enormous size. No Flying Wyvern of that size is capable of flying because it's body is just too heavy for it's wings to support but Bazelgeuse can. One other unique feature and it's most prominent is it's scales, the scales can dislodge from it's body and possess an explosive liquid in the meaning they can explode these scales on it's tail and the underbelly of it's body and it drops them mid flight like a B-52 bomber which has earned them the nickname B-52 and Bagel. The scales have 3 states, inert, heated, and super heated, while inert the scales are black and don't do anything only exploding when physical force is applied to them, or when heated up by fire. Heated is when the scales turn red and after hitting the ground or wall will explode with more force than inert scales. Superheated is a level of heat that only applies to Seething Bazelgeuse, when super heated the scales will glow bright white/purple, when thrown the scales will turn purple swell up like a flower and explode with even more force than heated scales. Finally their most notorious and infamous part to them, Bazelgeuse are one of the most aggressive monsters in monster hunter to the point that they will actively seek out fighting monsters and divebomb into said fights to get a piece of the action. This has caused many hunts to become a desperate battle of survival as hunters will attempt to hunt their target while also avoiding Bazelgeuse's brutish nature.
So the big green crocodile monster is called the Deviljho. Last Video I mentioned how Elder Dragons are the top of the food chain to the point that when one is seen all other monsters save other Elder Dragons run away? Well Deviljho is a monster that not only ignores this but is willing to challenge them. In fact it is one of the *FEW* monsters able to go toe-to-toe against them. Deviljho are Brute Wyverns and because of their skin tone they are more affectionately called by the community at large the 'Pickle' but don't let the name fool yeah. These guys are endlessly ravenous in their hunger and will eat and fight anything to satisfy it.
Rajang is another monster that instead of running from an Elder Dragon will instead fight it. Rajang are the absolute strongest Fanged Beast type monsters. Rajang are incredibly powerful, the horn that it ripped from the unicorn, the Kirin, is incredibly difficult to break. Hunters can spend an entire hunt trying to break the horn and failing, but the Rajang's strength is powerful enough to just break it as it if was a twig, in fact Rajang are actually the *predator* of Kirin. Also the golden form it adopts is it's powered up form and since it's a monkey people have called it the 'Super Saiyan'
The Blue Puppy, is the Zinogre and it is the the progenitor, not literally, of the Fanged Wyvern Classification. It was the first Fanged Wyvern ever made and the most famous as a result. Zinogre has a symbiotic relationship with Fulgur Bugs the bugs go to the Zinogre for protection and in return the Zinogre feeds off their electricity to change into it's super charged form which is similar to the Rajang's powered up form. I call it the 'Second Super Saiyan' as a result even though it's not a monkey.
As for the hunter, you are a functional mute you never talk, in fact until monster hunter rise you have zero actual voice lines but apparently you are very facially expressive. As for the girl she's... again the community really doesn't like her and for good reason she get's you into more trouble than she gets you out of if at all. It doesn't help that she more or less joined simply because she wanted to join, she doesn't have any training or went to the school that her profession typically has.
So again I'll recommend watching the Roars and I suggest this so you can get an idea of sound design for the monsters. Since you'll be checking out Turf Wars I got nothing to say about that. The only other video I would recommend is an armor video so you can see the different armor designs that come from monsters. I wouldn't recommend weapons cause in World/Iceborne the weapon designs are the worst part of the game sadly. That's about it from me but if you have questions about Monster Hunter let me know and I'll answer to the best of my ability

Perfectly timed, I was just playing again MHW on PC. You two never cease to have perfect upload timing. Here’s some inside lore and ecology on some of these returning monsters for all the new hunters that will be joining us this summer (Monster Hunter Rise - the newest installment in the series is receiving an expansion).
    8:05
Tigrex, nicknamed _The Roaring Dragon that Bears its Fangs_ is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Freedom 2. Any monster that earns the title to “flagship” means their face is on the cover of the game box. Tigrex are capable of roaring at such a loud decibel level, that they can cause physical damage to any creature at close range. Often known for their ferocity and short tempers, their strategy in a hunt is just running into you and screaming. Lots and lots of screaming.
    9:37
Nargacuga, the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Freedom. As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, it’s a cross between a dragon, a bat, and a panther. Nargacuga actually gave retractable spines hidden inside their tails, which they can fire with frightening precision. They’ve also got bladed wings, which in addition with the tail means lots of bleeding. The one here fighting Rathalos was likely trying to track down or return to its kill and happened to be tailed by a Rathalos wanting free food.
    11:05
Glavenus, the Scorching Blade and one of the four flagship monsters of Monster Hunter Generations. My personal second favorite monster: he’s dinosaur with a massive blade for a tail, it’s capable of lighting it on fire by grinding it against any vaguely hard or metallic surface. To maintain their blades, they’ll often grind them between those four massive fangs on the front of its mouth, keeping their tails sharp and ash free. Any remaining cinders are stored within a special sack below its throat, allowing to also spew balls of molten fire. It’s a in series gag that Rathian’s often get jumped by Glavenus - with the poor Rathian ending up a dinosaurs whetstone.
    13:05
Brachydios, the Bold Indigo and flagship of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. That green tint you see on his skin is actually slime mold, a real life organic substance that tends to like moist spaces. Brachydios will encourage this slime mold to grow on their bodes as hatchlings by picking it up and licking it, causing it to grow. However, because this is Monster Hunter - it isn’t normal slime mold. It exploded when removed from a Brachydios’ skin. So on top of getting punched with a massive pillar of obsidian dinosaur scales, he leaves you covered in the stuff - causing *you* to explode in a few seconds if you don’t get it off. On top of that, when they get angry the slime mold will no longer stick and straight up explode on contact with *anything.*
    16:36
Here we have a regular Odogaron and an Ebony Odogaron. You remember the red weasel from the last video? Here’s his overactive, black and edgy cousin. It’s not uncommon for monsters to have two or three variations that they inherit due to their environment. This of it as the difference between a Bengal Tiger and a Siberian Tiger. Ebony Odogaron traded in their multiple sets of claws for a special organ that produces Dragon - the red lighting and smoke you see it constantly exhaling. Dragon is a capable of causing severe mental and physical distress to intelligent creatures.
    18:07
Acidic Glavenus, a subspecies of Glavenus that has made its home on the Rotten Vale. The vale is a environment full of bones, rotten corpses, and poisonous bacteria. This Glavenus has traded its thicker tail for a thinner one, creating a swifter blade compared to its fire breathing topside cousins. Those crystals you see it biting off are actually acidic sulfur crystals it builds of as a result of the vale’s poor atmosphere. Getting hit by them means that it will burn, bad. However, these crystals continuously grow - like rabbits’ teeth, on top of that they weigh its tail down. So much like the regular Glavenus it maintains its tail blade regularly.
    21:23
Here we have a special variation on the monster Vaal Hazaak: Blackveil Vaal Hazaak. That “air” you saw it manipulating is actually an exceedingly necrotic bacteria called Effluvium. It’s so dense that it’s visible, and Vaal Hazaak are one of the only species that can actually feed off of it. When the bacteria infects organic matter - it will slowly eat away at their flesh until there’s nothing left. Vaal Hazaak however seem to enjoy it, stealing the infected bacteria gestated by other monsters and using it as it’s own. This particular variant uses the Effluvium generated in plant life, specifically moss. As a result of it merging with the Effluvium, the moss has overgrown over its eyes a - causing it to be blind.
    22:58
Ah, the Bazeguese. A roaming monster we like to nickname “The B-52”. Ken called it when he saw the debris coming from its tail. Bazelguese are capable of launching its scales from its body, which under the right conditions will violently explode. Bazelguese are exceedingly territorial, and will interrupt your hunt with another monster just because you’re too close. This particular Bazelguese has a special mutation that drastically increased the size of his detonations, he is Seething Bazelguese.
    28:00
Here we have an old favorite of mine, the Yian Garuga. You know how Honey Badgers are ludicrously aggressive despite being so small? This is the Monster Hunter equivalent. There’s nothing a Yian Garuga won’t fight, even a Deviljho (the pickle you see it scuffle with here). Much like Tigrex, a Yian Garuga’s roars are exceedingly powerful - enough to cause pain at close proximity. On top of that, they have venomous spikes on their tail _and_ breath fire. Yian Garuga will sometimes end up scarred or dead because they constantly like to fight bigger monsters, yet 7 out of 10 - the Garuga wins just due to its overwhelmingly aggressive swagger.
    31:40
Another personal favorite of mine, the Zinogre. It is a lighting wolf - a *lighting wolf.* He’s the flagship of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Zinogre have a special symbiotic relationship with small insects called Thunderbugs. To us, they simply look like floating blue dots, but they’re actually a type of scarab. Thunderbugs are often prey to larger bird-like monsters, as their electric charge make themselves stand out like fireflies. So, a Zinogre will allow a colony of Thunderbugs to live in their fur and spines, and in trade for protection against bird monsters the bugs will generate electricity for the Zinogre to conduct through its fur. It’s not uncommon for a Zinogre to raise generations of bugs throughout its lifetime.
    33:40
This is a Rajang, a massive Super Saiyan murder monkey that makes King Kong look like a stuffed animal in comparison. Extremely aggressive and frighteningly intelligent, only the strongest of monsters will fight a Rajang. When a Rajang reaches maturity, it will go out and hunt down a Kirin - the unicorn lions. It will then break off its horn and as you saw - and eat it. The horn then allows a Rajang to utilize its natural electric powers, using the horn as a natural stimulant to activate its lighting breath and punches. Everything will pay food taxes to a Rajang, as their strong enough to rag doll most monsters.
    36:00
Safi’Jiiva: the Sapphire Emperor. Remember that weird blue dragon monster from the last intro video? He’s grown up, and he is right pissed with *you* for trying to kill him as an infant.
By shedding its skin over a long period, and feeding off of her bioenergy given off by other monsters, he’s drastically sped up his natural growth time. Safi’Jiiva is about as “dragon” as Monster Hunter gets - as he can fire off massive streams of blue fire and pinpoint focus his flames to create devastating lasers. He is one of two monsters in the entire game (before you ask fellow hunters, I don’t count Behemoth) that can kill you *instantly* with his signature attack _Sapphire of the Emperor._
    37:20
Alatreon, one of the few Black Dragons in the franchise. Any monster that falls under this categorization is one that Capcom will refuse to give players any information on. No lore, no gameplay tips. They are apocalyptic in nature, and could theoretically wipe continents if left uncheck. Alatreon have a unique mutation that allow them to use all five elements: Fire, Water, Lighting, Ice, and Dragon. This mutation has made them extremely unstable, and borderline human in terms and intelligence. Alatreon seeks only the destruction of life, and almost seeks it - much like the last monster in our roster.
    43:42
    Fatalis: The Calamity.
Fatalis is another monster to fall under the Black Dragon category. They are fully capable of wiping out entire civilizations with their flames, as you can see in the arena. It used to be fully populated, *used to be.* Fatalis actually had rather poor eyesight, meaning even though he can’t see you - he can smell and hear you with frighting accuracy. Fatalis have been known to kill hunters by welding them to their scales using their fire, merging the hunters own armor with its scales. Unlike Alatreon, Fatalis visibly seeks out humans to kill. It is said that by killing one and turning its scales into armor, one will be haunted by repeated nightmares of the dragon they’ve slain. Then one day the hunter that wore its scales disappears, and suddenly a new Fatalis is born consumed by the armor of the beats they’ve slain.

the tigrex ("run or kill it while it's busy!" orange with blue stripes and took out a giant spike monster called radobaan) is an older monster, incredibly fast, incredibly aggressive, and has a habit of dashing across the area many times in a row to just obliterate the player. they're one of my favorites, honestly. i also love the sense of community you get when playing these games, from the npcs to other players always willing to jump in and help take down a monster, everyone is happy to be there and excited to hunt. the world of monster hunter continues to invite me back in, ready to sharpen my skills again and again.
i'm sure someone else answered this, but the sword tailed monster is called glavenus, and when he bites the end of his tail, he's sharpening it. all the monsters have some kind of biological reasoning to their traits, but sometimes you just gotta have the cool stuff in there. back in monster hunter generations, there was a dragon called valstrax, who made noise and blasted around like a jet engine, and he has since reappeared in monster hunter rise, and there's some biological reasoning as to taking in a bunch of oxygen and using it to make himself faster, but it also just looks and sounds really freaking cool. namielle, the glowy dragon, is partially based off of bioluminescent deep sea creatures, and is therefore associated with water. they all play a part in the ecology.
i also enjoy how like, your player character isn't some superhuman, they're just someone who's good at their job. everyone works together, and others do the same job you do. the hunters are stewards of the ecosystem, and when you have an incredibly destructive force like a rajang or a deviljho, their job is to take out the invasive species so the rest can live in harmony.

As for why the main character doesn't speak, it's because they are the protagonist aka you so they suffer from silent protagonist syndrome to make it easier to put yourself in their shoes I guess. The handler which is the "captain obvious" girl is essentially the person who gives you missions and oversees your hunts, she is kinda the voice of the protagonist giving more information on the world/situation.
Hope that answer some of the questions at the end. Great video as always.

Someone needs to find a good turf war video, cause every video I've seen tries so hard to be thorough that it just becomes boring and repetitive. I imagine that that would be doubly true for someone that has never played any of the games. There really is no reason to show the turf war between Anjanath vs Rathalos, and then Fulgur Anjanath vs Rathalos, and then Anjanath vs Blue Rathalos, and then Fulgur Anjanath...etc.

the Ecology of these monsters are always amazing.
Bracadios has a semi-symbiotic relationship with a highly volatile slimy 'mold' that grow in there mouth and most die very young from the slime killing there host, but if they survive into adult hood they can effectivly use this slime as a weapon (explosive punches) by spitting on the edge of there arms (and rubbing it onto that lovely 'pompdour' of a horn)
while its often pretty fantastical, alot of these creatures actually have a in world explanation for what they are outside of just "its cool so it does things"
heck even sub species have reasons. from either "albinism" makin them more agressive (gold/silver raths),in heating/breeding state (black diablos) or just a change in diet/local causing them to evolve differently

The lightning unicorn is called a kirin and is actually an elder dragon that is relatively peaceful. The Fatalis is considered to be the most dangerous monster that every other monster tries to avoid it out of fear. It has a few other variants being the crimson fatalis and white fatalis. The crimson fatalis is an older more powerful and more aggressive fatalis, while the white fatalis is considered as the fatalis' ancestor.

Brachidios has a mutualistic relationship with a specific type of fungus. The green stuff on them is the fungus. When in contact with air, the fungus rapidly expands, which basically becomes an explosion. Brachidios saliva is able to slow this process, so the fungus is able to spread and the brachi has a defensive/offensive weapon.
blackveil Vaal Hazak also has a mutualistic relationship with a fungus. This fungus is able to use effluvium to drain other living beings of of vital energy. But to make this work with Vaal, it has to let it grow on it. So, eventually the fungus covers it's eyes, making it blind.
Namielle wasn't really shown that well in the intro. It's able command both water and lightning. And the way it flies is more reminiscent of a vampire squid. Honestly, out of all monster, this is the one you want to see the actual fight to fully appreciate everything that's going on with the design.
Seething bazelgeuse is basically just a really pissed off bazelgeuse. But, Bazelgeuse are actually carrion feeders, their bombs are a way to scare off instead of hunt. They find a fresh kill and scare off the other's around them, so it's probable that seething bazelgeuse is just a juvenile that hasn't gotten the hang of finding the actual food.
Fun fact about the Nergigante in the iceborne expansion (that is also a spoiler). The one you fight first, pretends to die and you can carve it as if you actually killed it. But, instead it just pretends until the rock dragon pretends to die, then it actually kills the rock dragon and leave's you be. Even though you just carved a wing from it.
The rock dragon's actual name is Shara Ishvalda. It another monster you might actually want to see the actual fight.
Rajang have this really neat habit of eating horns of Kirin (the unicorn), Kirin are considered an elder dragon and this monkey utilizes the power of unga bunga to eat their horns to achieve super sayian 2. They can do this naturally without blood sacrifice, but just like Goku, it takes time so they just take the shortcut (there's also a video of how they mocapped that scene, it's pretty funny)
Safi'jiiva is the adult form of xeno'jiiva (from the base game, the translucid crystal dragon). They're able to absorb bioenergy from the surrounding area, and the theme they have gave me severe PTSD before I even fought it. Seriously, the song has moments where you hear it's heart beat and it's ultimate attack instills fear unto me by just existing.
Alatreon is able to tap into multiple elements, it's known as the unstable red dragon. Red dragons being the most feared in all of monster hunter. It also has a really powerful attack, but safi's sound design makes my heart skip beats.
Fatalis is the most feared dragon. Purely because it's one of the few that have a specific motive. The motive being that, it hates humanity specifically. Design vice, it's one of the most simple dragon designs. No elemental gimmicks, no design gimmicks, it's just a dragon that breathes intense fire (the dragon from mario odyssey is pretty close to it design wise).

For instance that massive rock monster with "hand-wings" is not what it seems, and you only find it out when you go through the battle.
That super scary monster is a re-design of another one from the base game, called Black Veil Vaal Hazak. Vaal Hazak inhales the mold back into its body for sustinence as well as just breathing. The mold has completely blocked out his eyes and is blind, he usually just wanders around aimlessly much like a zombie up until you aggro him!

interesting you should say "go for the eyes" for one of them as that one - old pinkbow ears had a unique version in one of the older games for a mission called "The One-eyed Lone Wolf" if i remember correctly and it model had a large scar on its face and was missing one eye and ear ^_^

You should do Monster Hunter Rise reaction. I like the way they narrate all the monsters like a poem.

fun fact: The reason you saw the glavenus "eat his tail" was actually the beast using its uniquely angled jaw to sharpen its tail blade and clean slag from it. It can also superheat its tail by dragging it over rough surfaces like you saw making it's attacks extra deadly. but once cooled it leaves its tail dulled and covered in slag which it then cleans and re-sharpens with its mouth. the excess slag builds up in its mouth and throat where it reheats and vomits it back out as molten projectiles in combat. An all of this is turned up to 200 with the Hellblade variant

Bazelgeuse ( the one dropping bombs from its tail ) is an a-hole in the game. He pops up randomly when you are playing and bombs you. Whether it's fishing , gathering plants or fighting monsters that jerk pops up and tries to ruin your day.

Facing these beasts is always such a rush and it's more satisfying when you do it with a team.

Your reaction to Rajang eating the Kirin's horn was hilarious when you contrast it to my own reaction the first time I saw that cutscene.
    "No, don't hurt the unicorn." ;_;
    vs
"YES! BREAK THAT ANNOYING EQUINE'S STUPID HORN RAJANG!" >:D

Zinogre has one of my favorite themes. It’s the “Thunder Wolf”, so it incorporates the electric guitar in its theme. Each time you mount a monster its theme changes a bit and Zinogres theme gets dome intense drums to accompany the electric guitar.

The green stuff flying around are scoutflies. They help you find tracks and eventually the monster as well as things you can collect in the area. For most things, they're green. For elder dragons or special monster variants they're blue and when combat breaks out, they turn red and flee back to you.

Also, you should see what Shara Ishvalda 27:42 looks like underneath, as the rocks are a protective layer on top, and in its fight, once you damage it enough, it will remove the rock layer.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Another thing I find cool is about Alatreon 38:43. Which is one, it is also a black dragon, like Fatalis, and, it also has the ability to change elements, from ice to dragon to fire, or fire to dragon to ice. But for some reason, it’s never ice or fire, then the other one, and then dragon. It always has to have dragon element as the element change in between ice and fire.
