I've recently bought a Palmer pocket BASS amp! It was the ideal choice for my budget and goals. I needed to practice silently, with aux in option. And having it in a versatile preamp pedal with a few effect is a great deal imo. The German craftsmanship didn't let me down!
I gotta say, I like the Hartke. If you don’t play with a lot of effects, there are still times when a little compression/drive will be useful. This amp has that built in, and sounds really great to boot!
I got a Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 - 2 preamps - one tube, one solid state and they can be mixed together with 500 watts at 8 Ohms and 800 watts at 4 Ohms. It’s become my main amp for any situation.
One thing Julia didn't mention on the Orange Little Bass thing is the built in compressor, it really adds to the amp making it great, foot switchable too. The one downsized of the amp is the notched knobs, you can be at notch one and barely move it and the volume goes almost triple in how loud it gets. Overall a solid 500 watt amp.
@@sssxxxttt Messes with the input drive section so yeah - not practical to replace the over-sensitive orange knobs. I have the same problem with the Crush 50. I didn't have that issue with the Terro Bass though
I do like EBS. Used to use an ashdown 500 with a mesaengineering cab. Sadly that's just gathering dust at the mo and have moved to just using a DI as easier to transport
Aluminum cones FTW wait that’s no hartke cab... I’ll still say Hartke is my fave of these bass boomers my all time fave is Ashdown gotta love the VU glow and bouncy indicator 🤘🏽
All 4 amps are good. The one on the top made a mark to me coz the way it sounds was more clearer than the three. It feels good too every time you play bass and you hear it in your ear that makes more enjoyable. Such a good therapy. 😁👍 Music🎼
I think I like the.. Orange litle bass thingy. Thank you for showing. I bought the Fender Rumbler LT25 to practice at home. Love it. Not for a gig, but realy Inspiring practice with all it's sounds. And yes, Julia is a Bass Goodess.. :-)
Really liked the video! I've been impressed by the Orange LBT, and I thought it had the most "round" and full sound of them all. I have a Fender Bassman 800 head, and I LOVE it. I use it for playing live, and I've also recorded with it using the DI out + mic'ing a cab. I love the sound you get from both channels, as well as the blend you can get from each together. it's super versatile with two preamp tubes and a solid-state power amp, and SUPER light for its size at about 14lbs, rather than like 60-80lb full tube amp.
@@MrToonfish It's imho one of the top 2x10 cabs in existence (Vanderkley, Bergantino or Rheingold have very nice ones too). I own one of these usually driven by my 1983 BassArt or Soul I. If necessary it's combined with a Glock Uno. The only thing I like even better is the Double 2x12". With one of the amps, most gigs I don't need anything else.
In 2020, for stage(large venues), I bought a Blackstar Unity 15 Cab which I hooked up to my Hartke HD500. Also, for practice and smaller venues, I purchased an Ashdown Studio12.
I’m still running my mess M-Pulse 600 black face with vintage telefunkens with my DiST 410 from Epifani. Engineers in the studio and live gush over the tones and control.
I listened to this with two pairs of good headphones, even using one of those little USB plugin things to make it sound much better than using the computer's audio, and the first three sound identical. The fourth one has a bit more bite though, I think.
Bergantino,EBS Reidmar,Quilter Bass Block,Orange Terror Bass ,Ashdown,Darkglass M500 v2 and Alpha - Omega 500.... That Harley Benton head doesn't sound bad though..
I am interested in your take on the tc electronic amps. For there are some innovative eq simulations on a chip in there not found in other amps. In the 70’s the EQ of an amp Was largely experimented with. Since small changes to a bass sound are very critically approached I urge you to go deeper into EQ within the clean/cleanish territory. For it is this difference bass players often seek to set their sound apart.
I've been a guitarist for over 20 years, and looking to buy my first decent bass amp. I think I'm going with Darkglass, probably the AO 500, but Julia playing something like Killing in the Name Of through that Hartke amp... dang that sounds great.
Another great video from Julia! Thanks! I'm also curious about the gnome i. I mostly play at home and with not much space at home, head + cab gets a little too difficult to find the space for it (not to mention the absurd amount of stringed instruments at home...).
Still playing my SVT and SVT Pro-4 through various cabinets for larger gigs. Radial JDI to FOH and let them set my stage level. SVT Pro-3 for smaller gigs with a 2×10 cabinet. If the small venue has a decent sound system I just go direct with Radial Bassbone V2 to keep levels under control.
My first thought was that the Orange Little Bass Thing is more to my liking than the Terror, and I knew nothing about it before (being a guitarist who plays a little bass because it needs doing). My final thought, is that every single one of them sounds WAY better than I expected, and the real problem is that Julia is not my bass player and I probably can't make any of them sound as good as she can. 🤠 Thanks Julia, and as usual, well done!
Some of the bass amps I've owned are the GK 800RB, a vintage Ampeg B-15 Portaflex, and three different Ampeg SVTs (all tube). I love the SVT but I'm too old to deal with the insane weight anymore. Right now I think the best econo bass amp head is arguably the Fender Rumble 800. Up from there the Aguilar Tone Hammer heads; 350, 500, and 700. A little bit above those; Mesa Boogie Subway DW-800 and TT-800. I now use a MB Subway WD-800. It's light (7 pounds/3.2 kg), powerful, includes tons of useful features, and it has a class A tube preamp and a class D power section so it sounds fantastic. It's the ideal light alternative to the 80 pound/36 kg SVT head.
I’m with you on the SVT. My favorite rig ever was an 80-lb Ampeg head with four big tubes and two 4x10 Ampeg cabinets. Totally miss it but it was not practical for anyone but a rock star.
Funny enough the Orange was my favourite! It sounded pretty clean. I'm more of an Ampeg/Aguilar guy. The EBS sounded like, well, a Tube Amp, a little bit of dirt to it, pretty cool
Still think Bergentino and Trickfish is well above these as is the Darkglass. I assume there are others too that are similar to these, just haven't played them. The ones here seems to be the standard simple average ones. Although the EBS can probably be consider one of the better amps, but the others not so much. If you want a vintage tone the Ampeg and Aguilar top of the line models are great too. I know some loves the big fenders, but I never was a fan of them.
A lot to choose from . Have you played any of the GR Bass items ? Those Aerotech , Carbon Fiber Speaker Cabinets are feather weight . I would be interested in hearing them and wonder how they sound on a gig . Thanks .

I bought a Quilter Interbass 45 last month from Thomann. Makes for a sweet pedalboard amp. In most situations you don't really need so much volume on stage, and I like my sound slightly dirty and compressed anyway. Gives me strong Ampeg B-15 vibes with a 115 cab (just vibes, it's not gonna sound like a real B-15 at that price and size). If I need more volume, I'm just gonna buy a poweramp, the preamp sound is so lovely.
My favourite Bass Amp is the OB1 from Orange). Super clean sound, but also a very crunchy sound. 500 Watts, so you're always heard, your presence is awesome!!!!

I tried all of these looking for an amp to replace my old TC rig. The best by far was the Ashdown ABM 600. Solid clean tones and a valve preamp to add some overdrive. Sounds great live.
